Three news items:
1) John McCain has picked a running mate and may announce/leak the choice tonight.
2) McCain has admitted he is computer "illiterate."
Both of which make it unlikely that he will be much swayed by ...
3) "The Directors" of the conservative site Red State have endorsed Rep. Eric Cantor (Va.) as the best choice for VP.
Why Cantor? "While a young man, Cantor has served in federal office twice as long as Barack Obama -- and was a member of leadership when Obama was still in Springfield. In that short time, he has established himself as a dedicated and intelligent member of the House," the directors -- the six bloggers who make up the site's board -- write, later concluding: "John McCain makes people of all political stripes proud to be American. Eric Cantor will make you proud to be a Republican. We need him. He fights."
Cantor's endorsement by the influential conservative blog marks the apex of the Virginian's VP boomlet. Never quite mentioned on any final short-lists, Cantor nonetheless does appear to have been at least considered for the post and has earned a fair amount of media coverage and a Web site touting his candidacy.

Cantor has a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 96.83. Good enough?
ACU rating won’t determine whether or not I like the guy or not.
That aside he seems like a pretty solid choice.
BOGUS!
I was hoping for Sarah Palin, myself.
***FR is a much better barometer of conservatism, but hey, at least the redstate rinos did not pick Lieberman.***
Ha, seriously.
At about 630 I’m still waiting for the 6 pm “leak”.
Nope, 96.83 makes him a RINO. LOL.. waiting to see how many actually call him a RINO if he is chosen.
It was not an indictment of Cantor. He seems OK to me.
BUT, where is the FR poll??
Yahoo News sez that Paul Enty, whoever he is, suddenly cancelled all apearances, so there you are!
I’m hoping Mccain pulls a rabit out of his hat and selects someone who can be a great conservative CIC if he kicks the bucket. None of the names bandied about thrill me, and some are downright awful, including her.
I saw this article and decided not to post it because the title was too cruel and pissed me off.
I have been hearing blogosphere rumors that it’s Cantor, but I think its Pawlenty.
He’s the guy who gives peeling paint and/or Bill Frist a run for its money?
4 term, 8 years?
Yo RC, guy on the phone for you. Says his name is John somethin’ calling from Arizonia. Also there is a bunch of guys in black suits with ear pieces comeing up the driveway. Going to take the call?
Shoot, I’ve seen every shade of R called a RINO here.
The RINO is at the top of the ticket. He needs to balance it with a conservative. cantor sounds better than a gaggle of others he’s been floating out there.
I wouldn’t worry about it. McCain will do what McCain will do. Obama is like a bowlful of dog poop. McCainis like a bowlful of sour milk. A good VP choice will be like putting catsup in it. A bad VP choice will be like spitting in it. It will still be a bowlful of sour milk.
Over time, if treated correctly, a bowl of sour milk turns into cheese. The right VP choice can make a difference as to the direction of the party.
Fingers crossed on this, for sure....
Pawlenty may have canceled just so he isn’t asked about it.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Still, they are very good for head-to-head comparison. ACU ratings also focuses heavily on actual votes, not rhetoric.

Rumor Mill
What do you dislike about the idea of Sarah Palin as VP? My understanding was that she was very conservative - am I missing something?
She may or may not be very conservative. Sounds like she is a rising star. But at this point in her young career she is a 1/2 term governor with no knowledge of geopolitics or warfare. My rule of thumb is if they did not make a good idea for president, then they don’t make a good idea for VP.
I would like to see a General Petraeus type.
Yeah that would be an awesome pick!
ACU ratings are based on actual votes in the Congress not words. Your understanding of the ACU rating system is incorrect.
There were a few. Way more Rudy McRomeny and later Fredheads, as I recall.
We don’t need another Neo-Con, sorry. Time for an AMERICAN and a Patriot. Can you name one? I can’t anymore.
Admiral Stockdale is a true American hero of extraordinary accomplishment both in and beyond the Navy, tho perhsps not as well known as Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
>>>I would like to see a General Petraeus type.
Since General Petraeus is currently commanding CENTCOM, Duncan Lee Hunter was endorsed by General Chuck Yeager for President.
I would like to see our ranking officer from the House Arms Service Committee selected as Vice President.
FYI, Project Vote Smart was a spin off of Project Vote which was started BY Obama in 1992.
Admiral Stockdale was a great man.
R.I.P.
The politicians are told ahead of time which bills and how to vote to get a good ACU rating. They make sure to make those votes to keep the rating.
June Cleaver( Barbara Billinsley) could speak “jive”. That’s your point, so be it. She at least called it like it is. Not many people in this country have a clue what is going on, let alone what the future is going to bring. The government will take care of all problems because the government will make sure of it. So, what is Neo-Con? I can’t give an answer on this forum.
Votes are still substance and have real impact. If they vote to pander to a Conservative organization, good for them. It is better than some of the so called Conservative purists who talk a lot but the substance of their votes are to the left of even McCain..
