DUSHANBE, Tajikistan - China and several Central Asian nations rebuffed Russia's hopes of international support for its actions in Georgia, issuing a statement Thursday denouncing the use of force and calling for the respect of every country's territorial integrity.

A joint declaration from the six-member Shanghai Cooperation Organization also offered some support for Russia's "active role in promoting peace" following a cease-fire, but overall it appeared to increase Moscow's international isolation.

Please reduce the excerpt to one paragraph. Sorry, I forgot it was an AP article.

Yeah, unfortunately for Russia, China has its own territorial concerns which are not served by backing declarations of independence, and pretty much all the Asian nations not aligned with China are aligned with the U.S.

Sucks not being a superpower anymore, huh, Russia?

China will be laying its own claims to Siberia soon enough as Russia withers in its demographic winter.

They have no interest in propping up this sick old bear - they are hoping for its demise.

can you say, Chinas continued economic growth depends on not joining in a conflict against the main provider of badly needed jobs, being done by American corporations, or the purchasing of those goods by the American consumer.

Yep. And the Russians won't be able to do much short of nuclear war to stop it.

Seems China has placed themselves in an admirable negotiating position. Could be the results will not be favorable to Western interests.

Kosovo, the Clinton initiated boondoggle could be snowballing. Tibet and Taiwan come to mind. We shall now witness diplomacy only a diplomat could dream of. We will need our best.

Next few weeks should be interesting.

Just goes to prove that the Chinese are better at foreign policy than our State Department.

Can you say Kosovo?

Too bad about China.

Putin can take consolation that he is fully supported by countries that *really* matter, like Cuba, and Bolivia, Nicaragua, North Korea, Iran and Venezuela, led by such great statesmen as Fidel "I'm not brain dead and that stink means nothing" Castro, Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales, Mr. Chia Head, Ahmamamadingdong, and Chris Dodd's butt buddy Danny Ortega.

The SCO did blame NATO for fanning the flames and said that the West shouldn’t go too far in blaming Russia. All the SCO was against was Russia backing the independence of the two breakaway provinces. They were alright with Russia taking Georgia and adding it as a vassal.
