Vice President Dick Cheney to Visit War-Torn Georgia
Fox News ^ | Monday, August 25, 2008

WASHINGTON —  President Bush is dispatching Vice President Dick Cheney to Georgia, setting up a high-ranking diplomatic mission to an ally reeling from a short, intense war.

The White House announced Monday that Cheney will head abroad on Sept. 2 for stops in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Italy.

The vice president's office described Cheney's trip only in the broadest terms, saying Bush wants his No. 2 to consult with key partners on matters of mutual interest.

The dominant attention will likely fall on Georgia, where conflict with Russia has reignited Cold War tensions. Cheney will hold talks in Georgia with President Mikhail Saakashvili, as he will meet with presidents and senior officials in the other countries.

The news comes as Russia's parliament voted unanimously Monday to urge the country's president to recognize the independence of Georgia's two breakaway regions, a move likely to stoke further tensions between Moscow and the small Caucasus nation's Western allies.

The vote follows fighting earlier this month between Russia and Georgia over the separatist territory of South Ossetia.

Here’s a tidbit I heard from a friend whose boyfriend is in the Reserves (Iowa): He heard from a General that Cheney’s is going to be hit with “something big” before Bush leaves office. Anyone?

Cheney’s is going to be hit with “something big” before Bush leaves office.

Cheney is going to be hit or will Cheney arrange a hit on another innocent victim like Iran or an impossible target like Russia?

You can only count on Cheney and the other neocons to fulminate mightily about how the Evil Axis needs to be kept in check. But arranging a hit on one of them before the election - not gonna happen. Such idle talk just reminds the electorate of the neocons' past failures in dealing with the likes of BFFs Ahmed Chalabi, Perrez Musharref, and Georgia President Saakashvili.

If you want real to see real Rusky fear, send Cheney and Chuck Norris to tag-team on the Russian Army.

Cheney was scheduled to speak at the Republican convention next week. Unless he leaves right after the speech on Tuesday night, he will be a no-show.

Cheney will be gone in five months; why would they waste their time?

Besides, Cheney has been squeaky clean otherwise the Libby/Plame mess would have derailed him.

Still bitterly clinging to your guns down Pennsylvania way, I note!

Just kidding, Mom - I know that you prefer to be defenceless.

Personal or Public issues? His health is probably worse than is admitted, but there might also be implications of financial stuff.

Or is he going to be the Vice-Presidential candidate? Maybe the President is limited to two terms, but no reason a Vice-President couldn’t run for the position eternally (barring human mortality, of course.)

The visuals on a McCain-Cheney ticket might be a bit disturbing though. At a distance, how could you tell which is which?

I remember when libs were against nuclear proliferation.

Who's for nuclear proliferation?

I'm against mindless aggression against Iran, which is at least a decade away from being able to produce a nuclear weapon deliverable against Israel or the U.S. Christofascists in the Bush administration and their neocon allies still haven't shown me an iota of evidence that Iran even has a program aimed at producing nuclear weapons of any type.

If the neocons ever produce evidence that Iran is engaged in nuclear proliferation, I can be persuaded to join their side. We've already been burned by Chalabi, Cheney, Bush, et al and their disinformation campaigns. Don't you guys ever learn anything?

Do you believe in UFOs and chupacabras too? Or do you just require that Jerusalem or Tel Aviv go up in a mushroom cloud to qualify as evidence?

Share with us the ironclad evidence that convinced you they're at least ten years away, and post your credentials to evaluate nuclear weapons program intel.

Iran is not the sort of country we can play games with. If they’re going to develop nuclear weapons in a year or two, lets take them out while we still can.
