Is McCain-Hutchison the ticket?
The GOPNation.com ^ | August 25, 2008 | The GOPNation.com

Posted on 08/25/2008 5:17:34 AM PDT by bmweezer

Since Barack Obama failed to choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate, is the table set for John McCain to select a woman as his Vice President? Dick Morris has made a strong suggestion that McCain - who picks his running mate on Friday - should select Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison as his #2, to help push dismayed Clinton voters to the GOP.

Hutchison burst onto the national scene in 1993, when she was elected to the U.S. Senate to fill the remainder of Lloyd Bensen's term, when he left to serve as Bill Clinton's first Treasury Secretary. Since then, Huthinson has been re-elected in 1994, 2000 and 2006, beating token DNC opposition each time. Despite being the the most-senior female Republican senator, recent buzz has suggested that Hutchison may resign her seat to run for Texas Gov. in 2010.

Hutchison has a lifetime rating of 90 by the American Conservative Union, which is actually eight points higher than that of John McCain. Although adding Huchison to the ticket would do nothing to expand the GOP electoral vote map (Texas is solid Red), McCain could certainly do worse than Kay Bailey Hutchison.

I’m still amazed at Obama’s pick of Biden. It’s like he’s wrapping up the election with a nice bow for McCain.

MUCH less of a gimmick than Sarah Palin, that’s for sure. Kay is qualified in every way for the job.

Hutchison burst onto the national scene in 1993

Slight overstatement........

This pick would be tokenism at it's worst. The only reason she's even being considered is that she's a woman. If McCain picks a moderately pro-choice woman, better Sec. Rice than Sen. Hutchison.

McCain and a “moderate”/pro-abort?

The ticket to guarantee a loss of Carteresque proportions?

Yep. If he’s that eager to get to his memoirs, that’s the ticket.

Maybe. I like the 90 rating from the Conservatives.

Hutchison was indicted in the early ‘90s though. The charges were eventually dropped.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson would be an awesome pick. Forget about the Clinton voters. Forget about gender. She’s a true conservative and her selection would solidify the GOP base that’s currently unsteady under McCain.

I would also love to see her in a debate with the plagiarist. She’ll turn him to toast.

The challenge for McCain is that she could easily overshadow him on the campaign trail. She’s attractive, articulate, persuasive, and a Reaganite. Of course, McCain’s unlikely to worry, given his ego.

Aside from keeping conservatives on the reservation, I think she would attract a lot of Reagan Democrats and soccer Moms. She would add to McCain’s cross over appeal.

McCain Hutchinson is a strong ticket and certainly stronger than Obama bin Biden.

How do you figure? She's "pro-choice," which is to say pro-abortion. She was pro-babykilling long before stem cells was ever an issue.

Check THIS: "A woman has a right to choose abortion, with restrictions, until viability."

She's opposed pro-life judges.

It's stupid these lame "let's screw the base" ideas keep being floated.

Obama is shedding his invincible shine, but it's still his election to lose.

Nominating a woman would change all that, and give McCain the edge. If he wants to seize the initiative away from Obama, this would be the way to do it. Give the fence riding Democratic women the revenge they crave. That's just good politics.

And please, spare me the 'I only want the best one for the job' argument. Since when has that ever happened for a VP? Cheney's the only VP in history that's really even had a job. The VP pick should be about balancing the ticket, and if gender has replaced regionalism, than so be it. A reasonably conservative/qualified woman does far more for McCain's chances of being elected than a reasonably conservative/qualified male from a swing state.

Moderately pro-choice? What the heck does that even mean?

Both of them are willing to let the unborn die at the hands of abortionists. What's moderate about that?

Nope, neither Rice nor Huchison is qualified.

“Too clever by half. No gimmicks needed to win this election.”

Well, being a Texan, I would not consider Senator Hutchinson being the GOP VP selection as being “too clever by half”. She is a solid conservative; pro life, pro gun, strong on national defense, etc. Having said this and while I would be ok with McCain picking Hutchinson, my preference is Governor Palin of Alaska. She has the same conservative attributes as Hutchinson but in addition is younger, more exciting, and would be a bridge to future elections. But alas, I doubt that McCain will pick either. He will probably pick a dull old white man - same as Obama. Btw, just for the record, I am a dull old white man. Heck, maybe McCain will pick me!

To use "Obama" and "shine" in the same sentence is about as politically incoorect as "Plugs" Biden referring to Barry as "articulate and clean".
