McCain Counters With...
Hugh Hewitt ^ | 8/23/2008 | Hugh Hewitt

Romney, of course. The same factors in Romney's favor -- pull in Michigan, Nevada, Colorado and New Hampshire, the energy brought by his organization-- are still there, but the pick of Biden calls for a very experienced debater as the only thing Slow Joe has going for him is the thousand or so primary season debates he has under his belt. Romney has the same sort of experience in the one setting where the veep nominees get the nation's undivided attention.

There is also the stark contrast between Romney's experience outside of politics --business and the Olympics-- and the emerging success of his health care program in MA and the 36 years of all talk all the time from Biden. McCain's enormous record of sacrifice and achievement already show up Obama's thin life experience. If Biden is compared to Romney on the basis of the accomplishments of the past 30 years, the argument is over before it begins.

The fall campaign is shaping up as one of substance and achievement versus hot air; of seriousness on subjects such as the war, energy and growing the economy versus endless speechifying and gaffes.

And we'll lose the whole advantage of replaying all the things Biden said about Obama, since the D's will be able to do the same with the Romney/McCain contention during the primary.

Romney brings a number of things to the McCain table — not only is his economic background proven and excellent, but his willingness to call a spade, a spade and blame Washington where it needs blaming. He will not mince words when it comes to the radicalism and socialism of the Dims. He has already publicly stated that “WASHINGTON IS BROKEN” with no remorse. It is going to take this kind of serious facing the facts to make it happen.

Hmmm...so according to this they need Romney for his debating skills. And he is from Massachusetts. Does that make Mitt a Mass-debator?

Although I am a Minnesotan, I agree that Romney would be the best person to articulate the Republican platform. He’s a seasoned veteran of business and government service. And being a Governor beats having another senator on a ticket.

Pawlenty is also attractive, and has a dry sense of humor. He can be very witty in fact, something that people outside the state are not aware of. He’s also the product of a very middle class home, and is able speak to people about their concerns and understand them.

Much better choices than Romney. Palin is a sure win. I don’t think Kay wants it. To have a historical ticket with someone who excites the base is brilliant. Either the first black president or the first woman vice-president on the republican side. Watch the enthusiasm meter soar.

Predicition:

McCain will lose with Romney. Too many flip-flops. Atheists and agnostics will not vote for him. The two rich white guy ticket.

Pawlenty will get eaten alive by Biden.

Kasich, Steele, the gov of Alaska, Powell would be great.

But not Romney or Pawlenty! Please!

It is really tragic that our government, and its politics, has degenerated to the state where the color of a peron’s skin, or thier sex, is the criteria for selecting a president.....really sad. Whatever happened to the issues that are important TO THE PEOPLE of America?

Why doesn’t Tom Coburn get any consideration?? Is it because Coburn is a true conservative and McCain is a RINO? Coburn would chew Biden up and spit him out. And he’s lockstep with McCain on spending.

I would prefer Pawlenty, for several reasons...

First, he is a successful Midwestern Governor.

He’s younger than McCain, Romney and Biden.

There’s no pesky videos of him blasting McCain

According to Rasmussen Polls, McCain is very/close in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin and Pawlenty could give him the edge.

JC Watts on Obama, June 2008:

Former Republican Rep. J. C. Watts received attention when he told reporters he was contemplating an Obama vote. “I’m a free agent,” says Watts, who is one of the only two black Republicans to serve in the House of Representatives since the 1930s. “I wouldn’t just vote for a Republican candidate just because they are Republican, no more than I would vote for a black candidate just because they’re black.” For Watts it’s not the historical nature of the race that leaves him undecided, it’s frustration toward his own party. “African-American Republicans in the faith community are the most forgotten demographic in the Republican Party,” Watts says. And he hopes the GOP will allot more resources toward attracting black voters.

Hate to tell you this but you are dead wrong about Pawlenty. Pawlenty would clean Biden clock in a debate. Biden is smug arrogant dogmatic elitest. Pawlenty is probably the fastest thinking GOPer around. On charm, charisma and brains T Paw would kick Biden’s ass without breaking a sweat.

However, T Paw is too moderate. McCain must be bold and move to the Right with his pick

Perfect. I really have no favorite here . Kay from Texas is a nice lady and she would be helpful in pushing Mccain Kennedy since she supported it . Pawlenty is a nice guy who no one knows , his debating skills are nonexistant (for gods sake Alan colmes pistol whipped him ) Biden will have him for lunch . No one listens to him and says “ wow if mac needs his back covered Tim is ready to step in as commander of the fleet . Palin is the best of the lot , but i don't think she wants it . Her debate with Joe would be a media circus . Can you imagine plugs trying to beat up on a beautiful woman. Mitt at least looks great and he can sell and raise big cash .

If you look back at the GOP primary debates objectively (even with Fred Thompson), Romney clearly outshined the others. The guy speaks very well and with an amazing depth of knowledge on the economy, national security and foreign policy. He’ll be a formidable opponent for Biden in the debate.

The debate at the Reagan Library was what sealed it for me. Romney was the better candidate.
