US disrupts Olympic party with human rights attack on China

America has openly attacked China for failing to live up to its Olympic promise to improve human rights after eight US citizens were arrested and imprisoned without trial for their part in a pro-Tibet demonstration.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office called on China to 'respect its commitment to freedom of expression' Photo: AFP

In an unusually candid statement issued on the eve of the Olympic closing ceremony the US Embassy in Beijing expressed mounting frustration with China's refusal to give ground on basic freedoms during the Games.

"We are disappointed that China has not used the occasion of the Olympics to demonstrate greater tolerance and openness," the statement said.

"We encourage the government of China to demonstrate respect for human rights, including freedom of expression and freedom of religion, of all people during the Olympic Games and beyond."

The statement appeared to be timed to inflict maximum embarrassment on the Chinese government which, despite the sporting success of the Games, has faced continued criticism of its human rights abuses.

UK visitors in China should "respect local laws".

Sorry, but one shouldn't protest in another country and expect to be treated nicely.

So you think that nations who allege that they respect Freedom of Expression should not be expected to actually do so?

I am sure all the Liberal Free Trader Globalists and ChiCom panderers will find some excuse or reasoning to justify the ChiComs actions during the Olympics.

“Sorry, but one shouldn’t protest in another country and expect to be treated nicely”

Except for the US, of course.

The fact that we do tolerate people protesting makes us a better country than China. I wouldn't want it any other way, it's the price of freedom.

I’m sorry, but ILLEGALS protesting in our streets and being tolerated does NOT make us a better country. It simply shows that we are a nation of laws we refuse to enforce.

It’s starting to smell like Russia-China Axis for a new Cold War as tension rises in Georgia, and frictions increase on human rights in China.

Amen. I was just thinking of the marches of illegals waving the Mexican flag in our streets.

America has openly attacked China for failing to live up to its Olympic promise to improve human rights after eight US citizens were arrested and imprisoned without trial for their part in a pro-Tibet demonstration.

I am truly and profoundly disappointed that the U.S. has officially "taken the bait" and jumped into a diplomatic hornets' nest.

Who are these diplomats?
Whose "leadership" are we viewing here?

I very much want to know who these "eight US citizens" are. Personally I am guessing that they are fraudulent citizens (CINOs) who are using the basic principles of the U.S. as a weapon in their private wars elsewhere.

I say let China have them, and revoke their citizenship.

I may be weird, but I have never thought that my "American Citizenship" entitles me to impose our view of "freedom" in foreign countries.

Certainly not when our freedoms are being assailed in wholesale lots right here at home. Just take a look at who seriously feels qualified to be our president!

It's mind-boggling.

Has the world gone mad?

So you think that nations who allege that they respect Freedom of Expression should not be expected to actually do so?

Actually I do expect them to actually do what they profess.
But in the real world that is a retard's view of the problem.

The actual problem is that individual American "citizens" have no standing in reality to force an expected outcome in foreign countries.

Ever checked on the definition of insanity lately?

Your comments really do sum up the emotional sentiment of so many on the FR. It really is perplexing to me....honestly. The media and much of the world has heaped praises upon China's hosting of the games. They acknowledge some of the negatives, however, overall, the world has been pleasantly surprised. And certainly, everyone on the FR must realize, this is not just a pride for the government of China but much more so for the ordinary citizens. Yet, for many on the FR, it's as though the Berlin games of 36 were replayed. In fact, I sometimes wonder if many on the FR are more offended by the Beijing games than by the Berlin games. I'm not here to make accusations, but I do sometimes wonder.

It's as though, ......to put it bluntly, a certain old order it being rocked, and many on the FR do not like it.
