Ridge to introduce McCain in PA
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | Posted August 23, 2008 5 :03 PM | Salena Zito

DENVER -- While all eyes are on Sen. Barack Obama and his freshly minted running mate Sen. Joe Biden -- one week from today (the day after Sen. John McCain announces his running mate), Gov. Tom Ridge will introduce McCain along with unsaid running mate on a southwestern Pennsylvania stage.

According to a Republican official, Ridge will be introducing McCain in Washington County next Saturday, which probably means Ridge is out, Mitt Romney remains the favorite, and Team McCain is planning to fight it out with Obama-Biden in the Keystone State.

Many analysts and strategists are keeping a keen eye on Allegheny, Westmoreland and Washington counties as where the national campaign may be decided.

Ridge is a disaster. The idea that he was even considered scares the crap out of me. Talk about NOT THINKING and POOR JUDGEMNT!!! WHEW!

McPain needs Mitt more than ever. Screw these hate filled Evangelicals. Let me preach their hatred towards Mormons to someone else. They are a sorry example for evangelists.

I'll make Mitt a PRAYER target instead.

I think we can only have a US President whose beliefs are consistent with traditional American values; that is either Christian, Jewish or Mormon. Obama is eliminated on that basis because of his Muslim background. Once a Muslim, always a Muslim.

If it’s not Victor Davis Hanson, Dennis Prager, Thomas Sowell or Dick Cheney, I hope to God it’s no one whose name I’d recognize because everyone else I can think of off the top of my head (Romney, et al) belong on the Obama ticket.

Romney is a good choice, if in fact he will be the running mate. An even better ticket would be Romney with McCain as VP, but it’s too late for that obviously. The main thing now is to defeat the socialists: Obama and Biden.

Let’s be sure to get out and vote. Better yet, vote for McCain via absentee ballot as early as possible.

I definitely grew to like Mitt Romney a lot more. He may have flip-flopped on Abortion, but shouldn’t we be glad that he became pro-life. The anti-Mormon crap annoys me. Ok, so Mormon theology is a little strange, we aren’t electing a preacher, we are electing a President and Vice President.

An old liberal with little public experience like Romney wuld make McCain look bad...

Interesting yes, but (IMO) Santorum would be a terrible pick. Rightly or wrongly, many independents view him as a too doctrinaire and too far to the right.

My choice, in order of preference:

1. Romney

2. Palin

3. Cantor

4. Pawlenty

Mitt “make every promise you have to” Romney is another Slick Willie politician wo will say or do ANYTHING to be
President.

McCain would be very wise to pass on him.

Not to mention all the ads the democrats could run of the nasty exchanges between Mccain and Romney ...

Indeed he does, to some extent, especially now that he’s turned pro-life. But his religion was not brought up by a Romney opposer, it was brought up by a Romney activist trolling for victimhood for his star.

Well, I doubt evangelicals will be ok with the kind of vitriol in post 8. However, here's a thread on the subject.

Evangelicals warn against McCain-Romney ticket

Personally, I doubt MOST evangelicals will be OK with Mitt, and a significant number may just decide to stay home or vote for the candidates down-ballot. Of course, 90% of the mormons will turn out for him, but that's considered OK. THEY are allowed to vote based on their religion, while Christians are excoriated if they even contemplate doing so.

Many analysts and strategists are keeping a keen eye on Allegheny, Westmoreland and Washington counties as where the national campaign may be decided.

As always, your analysis is good and generally right. You really should replace Dick Morris on Fox News because his track record is about as bad as yours is good.

However, I think it is hyperbole to suggest the national election will be decided in Allegheny, Westmoreland and Washington counties. The state election, quite possibly, yes. These are terrefic bellweather counties.

But remember, there is virtually no way Obama can win the election without Pennsylvania. If McCain wins Pennsylvania, it is over. If Obama wins Pennsylvania, it is the same as McCain winning Florida.

The county GOP told all us volunteers that these three counties also played a pivitol role in 2004. Even though we carried two of the three, the resources which the Democrats were forced to tie down to defend their turf here helped ensure that they would lose Ohio by approximately the same margin by which we lost Pennsylvania.

Get a load of this one ...

I have more in common VALUE wise than someone shyster than Huckabee. Huckabee is a disgrace to Bible based Christianity. Mormonism isn't Christian but sure beats one that is claiming to be a Christian who does nothing but vilify those who are unsaved. I am sick and tired of these phypocritical "CHristians" who are anything but Christians.

Rick Santorum lost his last election mostlty because Pennsylvanians were furious with the State Legislature for having voted themselves a 40% pay raise long after midnight on the final day of the legislative session. A lot of incumbents were tossed out in that election, including two PA Supreme Court Justices (something which never happened before in PA history!).

I hate to say this, but most of the Pennsyltucky electorate are so dumb they don't know the difference between a State Senator and a US Senator. They just saw "Senate" and vote for the opponent because they were in a mood to ditch everyone.

It's obvious a lot of people don't like Romney only because he's a Mormon which is ignorant. It's not like he will be trying to push laws through that will elevate Mormonism. That's why I would vote for any Christian or Jew who was conservative, because they would only be supporting issues that were fundamental to almost all religions. Like stopping abortion and other issues which are mostly universal to religious people who actually follow the words of their Holy books.

It would be different if a candidate was trying to push their exact religion on people and change things to support the religious views they held while attacking others. But that's not the case so it's ignorant for people to base their votes on religion instead of issues, which is what a lot of people are doing. It's no different than someone voting for Obama only because he's black.

I'd rather have a Mormon who practices his faith than a follower of Reverend Wright who throws his mentor under the bus for his political advancement.

I'd also rather have a Mormon who practices his faith than a Roman Catholic that picks and chooses his religious beliefs like he's in a cafeteria. How can you profess being a Roman Catholic and support abortion?

IMHO, history has already shown us that the ticket of Obama/Biden will do ANYTHING to get elected!
