DENVER -- While all eyes are on Sen. Barack Obama and his freshly minted running mate Sen. Joe Biden -- one week from today (the day after Sen. John McCain announces his running mate), Gov. Tom Ridge will introduce McCain along with unsaid running mate on a southwestern Pennsylvania stage.
According to a Republican official, Ridge will be introducing McCain in Washington County next Saturday, which probably means Ridge is out, Mitt Romney remains the favorite, and Team McCain is planning to fight it out with Obama-Biden in the Keystone State.
Many analysts and strategists are keeping a keen eye on Allegheny, Westmoreland and Washington counties as where the national campaign may be decided.

Thank goodness if true that Ridge is out.
Glad it is not Ridge.
Add me to that list.
You know what? It’d be an interesting thing for McCain to select Rick Santorum. Hmmmm.
McPain needs Mitt more than ever. Screw these hate filled Evangelicals. Let me preach their hatred towards Mormons to someone else. They are a sorry example for evangelists.
I'll make Mitt a PRAYER target instead.
I think we can only have a US President whose beliefs are consistent with traditional American values; that is either Christian, Jewish or Mormon. Obama is eliminated on that basis because of his Muslim background. Once a Muslim, always a Muslim.
Mitt should have been the GOP Presidential candidate.
If it’s not Victor Davis Hanson, Dennis Prager, Thomas Sowell or Dick Cheney, I hope to God it’s no one whose name I’d recognize because everyone else I can think of off the top of my head (Romney, et al) belong on the Obama ticket.
Romney is a good choice, if in fact he will be the running mate. An even better ticket would be Romney with McCain as VP, but it’s too late for that obviously. The main thing now is to defeat the socialists: Obama and Biden.
Let’s be sure to get out and vote. Better yet, vote for McCain via absentee ballot as early as possible.
I definitely grew to like Mitt Romney a lot more. He may have flip-flopped on Abortion, but shouldn’t we be glad that he became pro-life. The anti-Mormon crap annoys me. Ok, so Mormon theology is a little strange, we aren’t electing a preacher, we are electing a President and Vice President.
McCain needs to pick a young solid conservative with a proven record and leadership abilities.....
An old liberal with little public experience like Romney wuld make McCain look bad...
Interesting yes, but (IMO) Santorum would be a terrible pick. Rightly or wrongly, many independents view him as a too doctrinaire and too far to the right.
My choice, in order of preference:
1. Romney
2. Palin
3. Cantor
4. Pawlenty
Mitt “make every promise you have to” Romney is another Slick Willie politician wo will say or do ANYTHING to be
President.
McCain would be very wise to pass on him.
Not to mention all the ads the democrats could run of the nasty exchanges between Mccain and Romney ...
Yes , like when McCain said not to go to a mud fight with a pig because you both get dirty and the pig likes it , when
referring to Mitt.
Oops, you jumped the gun there sport. You’re not supposed to play that card until someone includes the word ‘mormon’ in a post. No soup for you, Sparky.
Hey Mom, he cheated...
He tried to trump me with a victim card when it wasnt his turn...
Politics was trumps and he still had some...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Well, he prolly gets double points for posting “hate” twice and “evangelicals” twice......
At least Romney seems to actually practice his religion.
Unlike Biden, a Pro-Choice Catholic. Or Obama - who knows what he practiced with Wright.
I think most evangelicals will be OK with Romney.
I would love to have Santorum as VP (better as POTUS). But it is risky to pick someone who lost his last election.
Indeed he does, to some extent, especially now that he’s turned pro-life. But his religion was not brought up by a Romney opposer, it was brought up by a Romney activist trolling for victimhood for his star.
I think most evangelicals will be OK with Romney.

Who are they ????????
Like Nixon?
Well, I doubt evangelicals will be ok with the kind of vitriol in post 8. However, here's a thread on the subject.
Evangelicals warn against McCain-Romney ticket
Personally, I doubt MOST evangelicals will be OK with Mitt, and a significant number may just decide to stay home or vote for the candidates down-ballot. Of course, 90% of the mormons will turn out for him, but that's considered OK. THEY are allowed to vote based on their religion, while Christians are excoriated if they even contemplate doing so.

Obama Lied [Duh...]

It is the emotional blackmail of the teenager. If you don't get in line, it will be your fault if we lose.'" Conspiracy theorists were cheered by this week's meeting between Hillary's brother, Tony Rodham, and a senior member of McCain's campaign team, Carly Fiorina, in Pennsylvania.

As always, your analysis is good and generally right. You really should replace Dick Morris on Fox News because his track record is about as bad as yours is good.
However, I think it is hyperbole to suggest the national election will be decided in Allegheny, Westmoreland and Washington counties. The state election, quite possibly, yes. These are terrefic bellweather counties.
But remember, there is virtually no way Obama can win the election without Pennsylvania. If McCain wins Pennsylvania, it is over. If Obama wins Pennsylvania, it is the same as McCain winning Florida.
The county GOP told all us volunteers that these three counties also played a pivitol role in 2004. Even though we carried two of the three, the resources which the Democrats were forced to tie down to defend their turf here helped ensure that they would lose Ohio by approximately the same margin by which we lost Pennsylvania.
Get a load of this one ...
I have more in common VALUE wise than someone shyster than Huckabee. Huckabee is a disgrace to Bible based Christianity. Mormonism isn't Christian but sure beats one that is claiming to be a Christian who does nothing but vilify those who are unsaved. I am sick and tired of these phypocritical "CHristians" who are anything but Christians.
Is this a religious thread? Who mentioned mormons?
No it is not a “religious” thread.
It's a preemptive strike against these Evangelicals that would rather HATE Mitt than pray for him. I'm so sick of these pious hypocrites.
Is this a religious thread? Who mentioned mormons?
No it is not a “religious” thread.
It's your pal Huckabee that keeps talking about how Evangelicals will bolt if McPain selects Mitt as the VP. It is HUCKABEE that keeps that HATRED alive. Mark my words, he'll talk more about his religion rather than his qualifications to get the job done.
Rick Santorum lost his last election mostlty because Pennsylvanians were furious with the State Legislature for having voted themselves a 40% pay raise long after midnight on the final day of the legislative session. A lot of incumbents were tossed out in that election, including two PA Supreme Court Justices (something which never happened before in PA history!).
I hate to say this, but most of the Pennsyltucky electorate are so dumb they don't know the difference between a State Senator and a US Senator. They just saw "Senate" and vote for the opponent because they were in a mood to ditch everyone.
Now that is a cool photo!
For now, I'll settle for a heartbeat away. Besides, the 2nd bananna job will be a good lead-in to 2012 or 2016.
“Itd be an interesting thing for McCain to select Rick Santorum”
From your keys to God’s ear please!

This one would be, though I'm hoping for Palin.
If you think running Mitt, with the racist past of the mormon church, against a black man is a smart thing to do, you've had too much kool-aid to drink.
It is HUCKABEE MITTBOTS that keep that HATRED alive.
I’m one. Smart guy, good debater, excellent econ cred. Not my first choice, but acceptable.
ping
I was asking for a definition of the word...
it’s thrown around in these threads and is often used to slander someone..
or as a catch all for a group of people who are really not related in their philosophies...
It would be different if a candidate was trying to push their exact religion on people and change things to support the religious views they held while attacking others. But that's not the case so it's ignorant for people to base their votes on religion instead of issues, which is what a lot of people are doing. It's no different than someone voting for Obama only because he's black.
Ah. Sorry I misunderstood.
I hope it’s Lynne V. Cheney.
I'd also rather have a Mormon who practices his faith than a Roman Catholic that picks and chooses his religious beliefs like he's in a cafeteria. How can you profess being a Roman Catholic and support abortion?
IMHO, history has already shown us that the ticket of Obama/Biden will do ANYTHING to get elected!
