If Obama Loses: Racism is the only reason McCain might beat him (warp-speed barf alert)
Slate ^ | 8/23/08 | Weisberg

Posted on 08/23/2008 8:21:32 AM PDT by pabianice

What with the Bush legacy of reckless war and economic mismanagement, 2008 is a year that favors the generic Democratic candidate over the generic Republican one. Yet Barack Obama, with every natural and structural advantage in the presidential race, is running only neck-and-neck against John McCain, a sub-par Republican nominee with a list of liabilities longer than a Joe Biden monologue. Obama has built a crack political operation, raised record sums, and inspired millions with his eloquence and vision. McCain has struggled with a fractious campaign team, lacks clarity and discipline, and remains a stranger to charisma. Yet at the moment, the two of them appear to be tied. What gives?

If it makes you feel better, you can rationalize Obama's missing 10-point lead on the basis of Clintonite sulkiness, his slowness in responding to attacks, or the concern that Obama may be too handsome, brilliant, and cool to be elected. But let's be honest: If you break the numbers down, the reason Obama isn't ahead right now is that he trails badly among one group, older white voters. He does so for a simple reason: the color of his skin.

Much evidence points to racial prejudice as a factor that could be large enough to cost Obama the election...

Obama isn't ahead right now is that he trails badly among one group, older white voters. He does so for a simple reason: the color of his skin.

Of course. Since it's not possible that older white voters simply don't like liberals.

Of course! We all know that most Americans want socialism, crushing taxes, a weak military, UN approval for security decisions, and close relationships with countries that hate us. Sure. Racism MUST be it.

I was going to post this, but I'm glad you beat me to it.

I was going to offer it as a “Jumbo Hefty Barf Bag Alert.”

Because you could never vote against Obama because of his long associations with terrorists (Ayers), his twenty years in a bigoted “church” (Wright), or his votes in favor of infanticide.

Only a moron like Weisberg thinks like this. How does Obama get a pass on being a bigot? He spent twenty years listening to Wright spew his black liberation theology dogma, which is as anti-white as anything. Yep, it's just his skin color.

Race baiting:
injecting race into a debate where it has no legitimate place, for the sole purpose of heightening and exploiting racial tension, in order to stifle the debate. Those who engage in it are by definition racist.

It was only a matter of time before this trash was brought into the fight. It's the only thing the have left to defend the loser they are about to nominate. And yes, Jacob Weisberg is a racist.

"Much evidence points to racial prejudice as a factor that could be large enough to cost Obama the election..."

Do any of these Omama worshipers see any hint of racism in the fact that about 90% of black voters will vote for him. If McCain was getting 90% of the white vote Obama would not be in contention at all. Omama's supporters seem to be much more racist than McCain supporters.

Or, maybe these older white voters have seen more slick talking politicians come and go, and they were quick to recognize Obama’s cotton candy platitudes for what they were.

All that is strictly a matter of opinion, Mr. Weisberg. Some people think he’s very boyish looking and too skinny, and he never seemed brilliant to me, but more like a slick talking con man. One man’s brilliant orator is another man’s slick talking con man. None of your opinions are facts, just opinions that are not shared by all.

Yo, Homey: the fact is if you support Obama BECAUSE of the color of his skin for historical reasons as in "showing we have moved beyond race" you have, by definition, done the same action you are condemning. The difference is there is plenty of empirical evidence that many whites will vote for Obama as a form of atonement for slavery, Jim Crow etc. but the opposite is true in proving that Obama would lose because of a refusal to vote for him due to the color of his skin.

This is such a masterpiece of liberal thinking that it needs to be preserved somewhere as Exhibit A of the liberal mind.

Because what it comes down to is that we should vote for Obama because it would be good for us, it will cleanse us of our racial guilt.

Who cares that the man is not qualified to be President? Governing the country: That's a side issue. What's really important is me, and my feelings. And I want to feel good, and post-racial, and celebrate “soft power” (this clown Weisberg should ask Putin what he thinks about soft power).

And anybody who puts qualifications before feeling good is just a nasty old bigot who hates the Messiah who has been sent to redeem us of our racial sins.

I agree. I've never encountered many racists in CA. I was kind of shocked in upstate NY and PA how many blue collar Democrats regularly dropped N-bombs in casual conversation.

But even if racism was evenly distributed any difference in the vote would be entirely due to Democrats, since Pubs wouldn't be voting for Obama anyway.

I’m not ashamed to say that since the overwhelming majority of black people vote Democrat and support their left-wing agenda, I tend to instinctively profile political candidates by race. We’re known by the company we keep. If this is racism, make the most of it.

ROFL.

The charge of “racism” is the last refuge of scoundrels, the “Democrats”, “liberals”, the left and “African hyphen Americans”. It's worth only so much more Dhim baloney.

Yeah, racism, that's the answer. So simplistic. If it's “racism”, you don't have to think about the hundreds of other reasons Obama doesn't qualify for to be POTUS. You don't have to accept any responsibility for all the other reasons he's unqualified for POTUS.

Typical dim Dhim trick and charge.

And Biden,....ROFL again. Perfect, a gift from heaven. Such a pathetic hack and flack. And Biden’s acceptance is proof of exactly how venal, vainglorious, narcissistic and lacking in self-examination and insight he displays.

More proof of how incredibly dumb and naive Obammy is.

When I was a youngster, a black kid asked me who I was going to vote for (that was our kiddie way of asking who we support). I said McGovern (who my mother's favorite). He then called me a racist, since I was not voting for Shirley Chisholm (a black activist also running as a Democrat...sound familiar). That was 36 years ago and it was yesterday to me.

As to Obama, I used to say the same thing everyone says, which is show me a qualified, conservative, black and I'll vote for him (or her) in a heartbeat. Now I'm not so sure...given the way people react when we oppose Obama, based on pure substance. Now I will hold any black to a much higher standard...sorry, but I don't appreciate being called racist just because I won't support any black that feels like running for president...and I will not support someone out of fear of not supporting him.

I think Obama and his supporters have done more to turn back the clock on race relations than anyone since the courts ordered school busing. I just feel sorry for blacks who, in the future, will have to shake off this whole ugly episode.
