TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sen. Barack Obama isn't just inspiring black voters to register in large numbers as he gets closer to being the Democratic presidential nominee. Evidence indicates that he's motivating some black Republicans to switch parties.
The only three states that track voting registration by party and race show black Republican registration dropping slightly since the beginning of the year.

The real question isn’t how many black Republicans switch parties - it’s how many non-black Democrats do.
Heh.
Which is important, even in the Democratic Party, given that 8 out of 10 Democrats are non-black, whereas only 1 out of every 20 Republicans is black.
The MSM is panicking. They are offering advice now.
What a racist!
This black conservative will NEVER vote for a socialist.
I heard JC Watts say the republicans don’t treat blacks well and he has not decided to vote for McCain yet.
but that sort of shows that JC isn't all that conservative. Nothing more than racial and identity politics.
Obama doesn’t even have my black co-workers votes in the bag, and only one of them is a registered Republican.
Whitfield said “”Really early in his presidential campaign, when I got the opportunity to listen intently to his ideas and his platforms, I immediately said, ‘This is beyond belief,’” Jenkins said. “I joined the effort and it became clear to me that I was better able to work in my community in a broad way and support this outstanding candidate as a Democrat.”

Now let's listen closer to what he said the true meaning is becoming clearer here it comes oh ye, What whitfield said was this “When I finally saw obama and noticed that he was a black man I decided I would change to the dRat party. Cause ya know he is black I'm black. This is a historical moment.”
More like a hysterical moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just want to know why the press keeps predicting an Obama victory just because Americans think he’s a porn star - I don’t think that’s such a great attribute...
“It’s a funny thing about Obama, but when I see him speak and see him on the stage, I don’t see him as a black man, I just see a man. He symbolizes hope and we surely need hope,” Miller said.
But he was quick to add that he could support another Republican for president.
“If he (Obama) stays eight years and then Jeb Bush says, ‘I’m running,’ I’m with Jeb.”
Whatever. Suddenly he speaks for the party.
Hey, take it on faith -- we are the media, and he is the one!
...then they aren’t “Republicans”...they’re racists.
Really sad and pitiful. How can these people live with themselves when they have no core values. These quotes make it sound as if they aren’t making the change because of race, but rather because they believe in Obama’s message. They couldn’t have been real Republicans before if they are willing to swallow his nonsense. How many “Republicans” do you know who love higher taxes, more government, and caving in to our enemies? Not to mention the lies, flip flops, “nuances,” etc.
I heard this one once from a former Democrat from South Boston. (Where many believe Ted Kennedy is G*d)
“My mom became a Republican, because she said the Republicans haven’t done anything for us, but more importantly they haven’t done anything TO us.”
I would think a lot of Black Republicans belong to the party for the same reason and are not going to switch over to the Democrats.
Porn star? ???
By all means, if your major criteria for voting is whether the candidate has the same skin color as you, I would prefer that you not be in my party.
I just saw a poll in Ohio showing Mr. Obama losing a significant chunk of black vote. Just wait people he still has plenty of room to disappoint.
"reaching out" to one group is simply treating that group differently than other groups. And if that group's commonality is so-called "race", then "reaching out" is inherently racist.
You know I really don’t care what color a politician is but I do care what their agenda is,for all people. Considering the amount of abortions that African-Americans have had,14 million,I think the black community should look somewhere else for the promise land than the democrats. Martin Luther King’s niece and others will be protesting at the dem convention about abortion. She is a witness to the black holocaust,as well as others. She herself had an abortion and wants the black community to know they are eradicating their own community.
Suppose 3-4 states refuse to put dirty O on their ballot?
As to why ONLY black voter registration count, well, that’s for the news media to address.
Looking at all voters, there has NOT been any dramatic surge in Democrat registration in FL or NC (sorry, but I couldn’t get the numbers for LA).
In FL, 37.7 percent of voters were registered Republican in 2004, and 41.3 percent were registered Democrat.
Thusfar in 2008, the numbers are 37.1 and 41.3. A deterioration of 0.6 points in our numbers versus theirs.
In NC, 34.5 percent of voters were registered Republican in 2004, and 47.4 percent were registered Democrat.
Thusfar in 2008, the numbers are 32.8 and 45.3. A pick-up of 0.3 points in our numbers relative to theirs.
I don’t see any real trend in these numbers, one way or another.
This race thing cuts both ways. If people of one pigmentation think it’s swell that one of “theirs” has a chance to be president, why would it be wrong for people of a different pigmentation to think exactly the same thing?
I personally don’t like Obama because he’s an unpatriotic, socialist, culturally liberal elitist. I don’t really care what’s his color or combination of colors, or even if he were transcluscent.
As for McCain, he could be a flaming transexual, covered from head to foot in tatoos, and smoke dope, I’d vote for him over Obama.
I would, however, consider my alternatives if McCain were a child molester.
