Rep. Tubbs Jones Unconscious in Cleveland Hospital

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, one of Hillary Clinton's biggest supporters during the primaries, remained unconscious Wednesday in a Cleveland area hospital after being transported there Tuesday night.

Tubbs Jones' car veered off the side of the road Tuesday night. Police found her unconscious behind the wheel.

According to a police report, an officer was driving behind Tubbs Jones' car at about 9 p.m.ET and observed her weaving.

After a couple of turns, the officer turned on his lights to stop the congresswoman. When she pulled to the side, her car then started to roll across the lanes of oncoming traffic. The officer then pulled his cruiser in front of her car to block it from oncoming traffic, the report said.

When the officer walked up to her sedan, he noticed she was in "medical distress" and called for an ambulance.

The 58-year-old Tubbs Jones became the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress when she was elected in 1998. She is serving her fifth term in Congress.

Tubbs Jones is the chairwoman of the House Ethics Committee. That panel is currently probing the DUI arrest and potential abuse of taxpayer funds by Republican Rep. Vito Fossella.

Tubbs Jones is set to be a superdelegate at next week's Democratic National Convention in Denver.

I have a hemagioma (noncancerous) deep inside the right part of my brain and I went unconscious twice while driving. Once I drove off I-80 near Davis, CA, down a hill, under a chain link fence and ended up on the RR tracks. Damage to car: $5,000. Damage to me: Zero physical damage, seat belt on and unconscious, but damage to my ego - photo of my car and write up about me on front page of Davis Enterprise the next day.

My doctor finally sent me to a neurologist and after many tests discovered what the problem was. Since they put me on tegretol in ‘98, no more passing out.

Very scary.

My ma died 3 years ago from this DREADFUL affliction. She was just 62 when it happened and she was extremely healthy so her body held on for 4 months. It’s a terrible, horrifying thing to have your loved one laying there, looking completely whole and healthy but not being able to reach them. I pray for her and her family. If she does survive she’ll never be the same.
