Every Tuesday, I'm generating a map based on pollster.com's running averages of all reported state presidential polls and a map showing the trend. The map shows the states sized in proportion to their electoral votes.
Nicely done. Please add me to your Ping List, if you’re starting one. Thanks.
This doesn’t square up with the averages at Real Clear Politics. They show Virginia, Colorado and Ohio with a McCain lead - you show them all in the Obama column.
pollster.com is apparently relying on some outdated info.
What the heck happened to Virginia? What’s with you folks?
Can’t say I’m surprised about the Northeast - unfriendliest people I’ve ever met (generally speaking of course). Try and start up a conversation with someone you don’t know up there in Massachusetts and see the icy stare you’ll get.
I also heard Ohio is tilting to McCain as of recent data. I don’t put much stock in polls but I do think Ohio is going to go McCain. There are a LOT of solid Christian folks here - lots of homeschooling families, and so on. Also, locally, in Cleveland, we’ve had some MAJOR corruption charges against several key Democrats and many people are so disgusted, it’s not going to bode well for the Dems in any race coming up.
Its not that we are unfriendly. We just cannot understand ya’ll. You talk funny.
(just kidding.....)
Looks like one of those passwords I have to type in before I can order my tickets on-line.......
How the heck do they justify that?!?
Two of the last three polls has McCain ahead in OH, Rasmussen has him up big (10 points) and the one that had Obama up was a razor thin margin. It’s safe to say McCain’s slightly ahead in OH now.
never mind the fact if you look at the past week on this map McCain lost 3 EV and hussien gained 3 EV....would anyone like to tell me with 3EV state switched from red-to-blue the past seven days???
Look - I LOVE it up there. And I realize I’m being verrry general, but I’ve never been able to figure it out. I’m from the Midwest and lived there my whole life. My mom’s from the deep South and people tend to be very friendly and social. It’s changing drastically in the South due to the large numbers of transplanted Yankees (according to my uncle who always uses the word Yankees preceded by the word “damn”).
FWIW, do you think your fellow Vermonters are friendly? Just wondering.
Latest poll from Indiana has McCain up by 6, so you can put that back in the the McCain column as well.
Here's the trend line for Alaksa. Looks like the Stevens indictment has taken its toll on the GOP up there.
The moved Alaska to the Obama column - I know the Stevens thing is bugging people, but I can’t see any way for Alaska to go Dem this year.
after just checking I can say the following: Pollster.com is awful....in instances where the polls they choose show hussien beating McCain by two-to-four points (Michigan, Minnesota) they count the EV votes for hussien...yet in states where McCain has a similar 2-4 pt lead (Fl, North Dakota, Nevada) and some where he has a six point lead (alaska) the state is deemed as a “toss up”...
and their trend line is based on a single poll, a rat poll at that, giving hussien a 5pt edge....every other poll the past month in Alaska has MCCain up anywhere from 2-to-10 pts....obviously they are in the tank for hussein....
Apparently a Democrat polling firm I never heard of called Hays Research Group released a poll showing Obama up 45-40 there. They declined to release any internals whatsoever though.
Interestingly enough, Rasmussen shows McCain up 6 and Research 2000 shows McCain up by 10 over roughly the same time period. pollster.com has apparently decided to ignore those two polls and go with the unknown RAT polling outfit when determining which candidate to assign Alaska to.
I have made a mental note to never pay any attention to anything from pollster.com in the future.
The Northeast unfriendly? Surly you jest.
Actually I moved to Maine about 20 years ago and I am still considered from away.
another really good site, IMO, is www.fivethirtyeight.com so named because there are 538 electors who will decide the next president. The researcher does a fantastic job of combining all the polls, democraphic data, voter registration, etc., in a kind of meta-analysis. His predictions are well researched and incredibly accurate. I think he’s going to be around for a long, long time.
www.fivethirtyeight.com
democraphic = demographic
Sorry
You certainly can’t trust this or any other source that says Obama has a chance in Montana.
You ARE joking, right? Oy. I give you credit.
Actually, I live in MA. You are right. We are not very friendly to strangers. I’ve lived here my whole life, and I don’t get it either. We are very willing to lend a hand to a stranger, but we wouldn’t say hi to one on the street.
A few years ago I was in Phoenix and I was walking around a mall. Whenever I made eye contact with someone, they said “hi.” It was very unsettling to me, because that never happens here. It made such an impression that I mentioned it to my wife when I called home that night.
The other thing that I noticed in trips across the country is that we talk very, very fast. When in Ohio and further west, I found myself being somewhat frustrated with how slowly everyone did things. I don’t mean “slow as in stupid” but in the pacing of things. We must drive the rest of the country nuts.
Well, you sure didn’t come to THIS part of Ohio. I talk as fast as anyone and so do many, many of my friends. I’ve met fast-talking Southerners too. However, I do know many people who speak slowly - my mom for instance. Oy, talk about painful. I can truly relate to your feelings about this. I don’t mind if people so speak quickly, but there is no reason to draw out every single syllable word into two or three.
And, just out of curiosity, why do you think you felt uncomfortable when people said “hi?” I don’t always say “hi” to strangers but often will smile. I say hello sometimes but, like all people, sometimes, I’m deep in thought.
Have a great day. One thing I do know is that you are right about the New England spirit of helping. I travel a lot and I’ve found the loveliest of people in every city I have ever visited; meanwhile, as I like to often joke, I don’t have to drive very far to find a jerk.
And if you are in MA, you will find the jerks if you drive! ha ha.
I think the “hello’s” made me uncomfortable because no one around here does that. The only people that talk to you on the street or in a mall are bums. No kidding. Its not that we aren’t friendly, just very introverted in those situations. Put us in a bar or at a party, and we talk your ear off.
Its funny. That same night that I called my wife to tell her about how weird that made me feel, I asked her if maybe it was because I looked gay or something. That was about 12 years ago. I think she stopped laughing last week. No, it wasn’t a problem. Just people being nice.
