Hitler said he was a Christian only to distinguish himself from the Jews. He regarded Christianity, along with Judaism, as a “gutter religion,” fit only for slaves. He created his own peculiar Aryan “church,” which mixed elements of German imagery with strange religious bits from all over the world. Furthermore, Hitler had been kicked out of Catholic school and had a serious grudge against Christianity. He also surrounded himself with homosexuals who hated Christianity, but were very drawn to strange cults.

Germany was a hotbed of religious syncretism and self-proclaimed mystics around the time of Hitler’s birth (and had been this way for much of the preceding century), and the official Lutheran church was already losing its authority. During Hitler’s rise in the 20’s, it was clearly apparent that Germany had dumped Christianity, and he took full advantage of this.

What he did, much like modern nativists, was to attempt to use “Christian” as a word to define German non-Jewish past.

but I doubt it was magic.

I know it wasn't. No faith required for that.

There are hundreds of “Christian” sects and heresies. As mentioned before, the KKK considered themselves patriots and Christians.

I see kooky Christians all of the time and they think what they are doing isn’t paganism. Have you ever seen the blessing of the throats at the feast of Saint Blaise? Or had a devout Catholic tell you to bury a St. Joseph statue upside down if you want your hose to sell? Pure paganism, but they don’t see it.

Santaria mixes Christianity and Hoodoo. Right now they are writing a Bible for Hindus that includes Indian mythology.

Blessing of the throats is an established Catholic tradition. You should try it sometime. Blessings are good for you.

There’s nothing wrong with legitimate devotions and prayers. Superstition is another matter. Things like “burying St. Joseph upside down” are superstitions and, incidentally, in the Catholic gift shop where a friend works, most of the people who come in to buy St. Joseph statues for this tell her they are not Catholic.

Placing crossed candles by the throat and reciting ritualistic words for the express purpose of preventing viral and bacteriological infections is voodoo, magic, hocus pocus. Why not just give the great elephant headed god Ganesh a peanut in return for worldly success too while you are at it?

The candles are blessed. Who’s to say it doesn’t help? As I say, stop by a Catholic church some February 2(Candlemas) and try it.

I have seen it. It is a magical concretion on the theology of the Church.

I'm not a Catholic and I know you're capable of solid arguments. That said, do you have to be such a douche to people you don't agree with?

To quote Rush, "Words mean things.".

"Secularism" and "atheism" are not the same.

I have read numerous books on Hitler and never came across the information you claim. I’d really be interested in your source for Hitler’s claim. Would you mind sharing the book in which you read this?

As for being comfortable as a backslidden Baptist, I don’t think I’d get too comfortable, my brother. I love sincere believers as well but I don’t know a one that would be comfortable about not being in good stead, which is part of being a Christian. The Holy Spirit will make a true Christian feel awfully UNCOMFORTABLE, so perhaps you have not backslidden at all and were never really His to begin with. Only the Lord knows for sure. I pray you’ll think about it.

Finally, I’m not sure what you mean about perverting science in the name of religion. The more I study in science, the more it points to God. Just taking all my anatomy classes would have convinced me had I not already been a follower of Jesus.

Would you mind sharing the book in which you read this?Google the passage. It is listed in hundreds of places with specific record of where and when it originated.

I state what I honestly believe and back it up with facts. If that is being a douche, then Ich bin ein douche.

That’s probably a problem. When something is repeated enough without an original source, I am not so sure I give it credence. It does not mean it is not true, but without the context, it is suspect.

"I state what I honestly believe and back it up with facts."

Very ironic to say the least.....given you started with a premise that is factually incorrect....."People of faith will believe anything"...

Or have a wiccan do it on February 2 (Imbolc)

Magic is magic.

Do you believe Hitler was a Christian? Or only that he allegedly stated so?

I know that he stated so. Isn't that the only test? How do you test for Christianicity?

This is EXACTLY why I posed this question to you. You apparently believe Hitler was a Christian because he claimed to be, yet you also stated that he only claimed it because he was trying to differentiate himself from the Jews.

There is so much wrong with your line of thinking, I do not know when to begin. How about this, Soliton, did you know I’m a 1st chair concert violinist?

I guess since I just told you that I must be one.

What more can I say? Maybe if I say I’m a millionaire, that will be true too.

As I said to you earlier, “you will know them by their fruit.” Hitler’s fruit was destruction and death on a large scale - the fruit of Satan himself.

And, I hurt my arm, but I’m also an Olympic shot-putter.
