McCain’s Former Hanoi Cell Mate Describes Character in Deplorable Conditions
Fox News ^
Posted on 08/18/2008 12:42:36 PM PDT by mnehring
John McCain rarely speaks about his experiences as a POW in Vietnam, but one of his cell mates at the Hanoi Hilton on Thursday described some of the conditions and character traits that earned McCain the commendations he received for his war service.
Col. George “Bud” Day, 83, is the most decorated service man since Gen. Douglas MacArthur, with more than 70 medals. A living legend, Day was blown out of the sky two months to the day before the North Vietnamese shot down a propaganda prize, whose father and grandfather were renowned American admirals....

The left (and others) are attempting to attack McCain over his cross story, saying he stole it. Well, let's see if they have the balls to attack his cellmates who served with him and confirmed that story, including Bud Day.

The driveby media proved beyond a shadow of doubt they have the lack of integrity to attack the POWs in 2004 (think Swift vets and POWs v. Kerry). Apparently, the Dems will never lack 'attack dogs' available to foam at the mouth on command!

It’s too late for bets. The dirtbags have been smearing Bud Day and the other Swift Boat Vets for Truth for four years.

Just what is Obama's pay grade?
His character could certainly be improved by a few years in the slammer.

Great article. While I’ve often disagreed with McCain’s policies, you can’t take away his character during his service to his country. I’m sure we won’t see this on ABC, NBC or CBS tonight. But we will see a nice puff piece on obama allegedly curing a leper or two.

IMO, the left is making a huge mistake by going after McCains service. Most Americans (aside from the far far left loons) perceive McCain as a bonafide hero. This will not go over well with most of America be they Republican, Democrat or Independent.

They are playing a dangerous game. They are reminding us what kind of man McCain is and what kind of scums their side is- even willing to go so far as attacking vets for their own purpose. More and more, every day, I am getting over my problems with McCain and am looking forward to handing the press, and Obama, a defeat.
Thanks left, you are rallying our side.

The left doesn't care who they attack, they have no honor, no understanding or concern for duty and country. If they attack Bud Day, it won't get them anywhere and they'll be exposed for the un-American frauds they are.

Subject: John McCain: "Christian Guard at Hua Lo Prison", "helped me understand power of my faith"
Posted on Saturday, December 10, 2005 5:49:29 PM by freedomdefender
In Part Four of his new book, "Character is Destiny," McCain writes about his role as chaplain for Christmas service in his Vietnamese prison, and about a guard who snuck in at night to loosen the ropes that bound McCain, and then snuck in in the morning to tighten them before other guards could notice.
The guard said nothing while performing this kindness, but one time, in the yard, "I became aware of him as he walked near me and then, for a moment, stood very close to me. He did not speak or smile or look at me. He just stared at the ground and then, very casually, he used his foot to draw a cross in the dirt. We both stood looking at his work for a minute until he rubbed it out and walked away."
To: freedomdefender

But that's quite a moving story if true. But I would guess that McCain's chances (At least here in Iowa) would be about 1% of getting any support for 2008.

Unfortunately, yeah, that was my first thought as well. He's still on the outs with Christians because of 2000. Then the judge sell out he orchestrated with his buddy Lott. G.W.B. has a deep reservoir of identity and trust with people of Faith. His conversion is believed genuine, it's something others connect to. He had that moment when he identified Jesus Christ as his favorite philosopher. Could be wrong, but everything I know about John McCain makes me disinclined to believe this is anything but an attempt to mimic G.W.B.'s moment in the primaries when that bond was cemented.

I have never been a big fan of John McCain. However, when he answered the question of his most gut-wrenching descision, it was as Charles Krauthammer stated - it made your heart still. I think after two years of being beaten and tortured, no one would blame him if he said yes, I want to go home. To decline - knowing that more torture and beatings would be forthcoming - takes a lot of inner strength. Unless he screws up the VP pick, I can say he’s got my vote.
