Pelosi Won't Limit Vote to Offshore Drilling ( So who's surprised... )
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Friday, August 15, 2008 | Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Posted on 08/16/2008 7:48:17 AM PDT by kellynla

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday firmly rejected the idea of a House vote solely on the issue of offshore oil drilling, calling it "a hoax on the American people" backed by oil companies.

Instead, she said, she wants Congress to tackle a compromise comprehensive energy plan that would include alternative energy sources and curtailing tax breaks for oil companies.

"You want to drill? We want the royalties for the American people, and we want that to pay for renewable energy resources," the San Francisco Democrat said in an interview for KQED television's weekly news show, "This Week in Northern California." "We want to connect all that together."

Pelosi also said she supports a roll-call vote at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this month. Supporters of former presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton had been pressing to have her name put into nomination to recognize the millions of votes she received during the primaries.

Clinton and presumed nominee Barack Obama agreed to do that Thursday, but the mechanics of a roll-call vote are still to be worked out. Pelosi argued that the roll call is a tradition and would be good for the party.

And Pelosi also said she hopes U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein runs for governor of California in 2010, predicting that she would be an excellent chief executive for the state.

"She'd be great. I wanted her to run during the recall," Pelosi said of the 2003 special election. "I didn't succeed."

Still, she noted, "Sen. Feinstein is in position right now in the Senate - she's chair of the rules committee. ... It would be hard to see her walk away from that, because she's certainly a respected leader in our country."

“Pelosi said she is confident of her re-election, noting that she won 80 percent of the vote in the Eighth Congressional District in her last race.”

Which is why a vote for any Democrat in the House is a vote for Pelosi and high energy costs. Energy costs which are hurting the economy and raising the cost of nearly everything.

This b!tch will only allow a vote on OD if the bill on it contains certain clauses that will make it virtually impossible for any Oil company to actually drill offshore. She is a lying... (rymes with punt!)

FoxNews reported this past week that Pelosi made over $250000 from her investments betting on high oil prices, so it isn’t in her best financial interests for the U.S. to drill at home.
Please read my article on http://thefreedomplatform.blogspot.com about “Why the vote to drill at home has been stalled” How many other dems have investment portfolios that are fat because of high oil prices?

Sen. Feinstein was born June 22, 1933, which makes her 75 years old. Hmmm, I wonder if she's "too old" to become the governor of CA. Whadda ya think, Nancy?

OK, fine - I have zero problem with this! The US Government already gets nice royalties AND taxes from the oil companies. And since those funds flow directly to the US Government, Congress can appropriate them as desired.

So Nancy, how is what you're demanding different from what you do now?

Of course, you can make these proclamations and when the vote passes (it does nothing more than OPEN up exploring, which is what the Republicans have wanted all along), you can crow about how you made "evil Big Oil" capitulate to your demands.

A political stunt, nothing more. Just a way for you to spin your backing down on the issue of offshore drilling.

You want to drill? We want the royalties for the American people...

Translation: There won't be any offshore oil drilling because there will be no profit motive if government extracts too much of the revenue that the drilling would produce. It doesn't matter if you call the government's take "royalties" or "taxes," or "windfall profits taxes" or "fees" or whatever, nor if the government confiscation is done "for the American people."

It all sounds as if it comes out of the Marxian playbook.

Pelozi just showing her ignorance and arrogance. She obviously has not looked at the bill the Republicans put forward - I believe they are calling it an “all-of-the-above” bill - they want to not only increase drilling, but also to pull full-bore towards alternatives, efficiency, and every other avenue to bring about energy independence.

Offshore Drilling: Cleaner Than Mother Nature

By Deroy Murdock

“You wouldn’t see any full production out of any oil drilling off the coasts until 2030,” presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama claimed June 20 in Jacksonville, Florida. The Illinois senator added: “It will take a generation to reach full production.”

Currently mired in red tape, Chevron’s Destin Dome field off Florida could produce within four years. Southern California deposits could yield within five to ten years. Besides, as Confucius said: “The best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago. The second best time is now.”

It really steams me that Democrats can get away with this. More then 70% of the American people favor drilling, she is going to fight it tooth and nail and STILL get reelected. Do you think this would be possible if a pubbie was doing the same thing? Guess again.
