Here is audio of that veritable bastion of wisdom and knowledge - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean - waxing eloquent on how the Republican Party is the "White Party." He actually said it - then caught himself, apologized, and went on. Considering Barack Obama already has 92% of the Black vote, this sounds like a real winning strategy for Dean to follow!

And there really isn’t any such thing as “race” anyway. There are different levels of expression of certain genes in different people groups - but we’re all the same “race”.
Just another way of pitting one group against another in order to obtain power over all of them.
I prefer to think of us Republicans as the party that ABOLISHED SLAVERY! And prefer to think of the Democrats as the proponents of slavery.

Dean is correct, whites are the base of the Republican party. People who obey the law, work for a living, support their own children, and don’t expect government preferences in education and employment are natural Republicans. A higher proportion of whites than blacks or Hispanics fit this profile.
As an “Asian-Indian-American” (I generally don’t like such phrases — I’m an American citizen, period.), I think most Asian Indians in this country fit this profile, and our tendency to lean Democratic puzzles and annoys me. My vote in MA will hardly count, but I’ve convinced my Dad in PA to vote straight Republican.

Then why is it, 40+ years after the Great Society programs were instituted to fight a war on poverty, that we still have so much poverty?
Why is it that many of our big cities, which have been governed by Democrats for decades, also have some of the worst social/economic problems?
Why is it that many of our big cities have some of the worst educational outcomes in their public schools, when they have been governed by good Democrats who are so concerned that every child gets a good education?
In fact, I’ll “up the ante” here, and go on to say that many of these cities have large African-American populations and have had black elected officials for many years. How can they realistically blame so many of the problems on racism when blacks have been in charge?
That would make the DNC the party rich white maexists and communists that live off of the enslavement and dependency of minorities to the failed programs they create...
Well, I for one don’t mind that Howie Dean called GOP the “white party.” I’ll take it, any day.

Pretty funny coming from a guy who was governor of a state that has a black population smaller than the black attendance at a couple of local high school’s homecoming games in my town.

UPDATE: Stacie Paxton, a DNC spokeswoman, responded by saying of Dean, “He misspoke and corrected himself immediately.”
