Lawyers’ Ties in Edwards Case Suggest Extent of Hiding Affair (NY Times jumps in with both feet)
New York Times ^ | August 15, 2008 | SERGE F. KOVALESKI and MIKE MCINTIRE

Posted on 08/14/2008 9:52:59 PM PDT by Scarchin

snip-The revelations of ties among the lawyers emerged through public records and interviews with people close to Mr. Edwards and Ms. Hunter, which suggested that their affair went on longer than Mr. Edwards admitted and that the effort to conceal it by Mr. Edwards’s inner circle was much more extensive than has been reported.

The review found that Mr. Edwards’s political action committee went to unusual lengths to make a final $14,000 payment to Ms. Hunter’s film company months after its contract with the committee had ended. The payment was issued while the committee was short on cash and could pay its bills only after receiving thousands of dollars from Mr. Edwards’s presidential campaign and donations from four people, including Mr. Baron’s wife.

Oh dear, now I’m confused. I was firmly convinced that Edwards had an affair, but after reading the New York Times I’m not sure anymore — they so often get everything exactly backwards

I am frankly stunned that The New York Times would run this story about a liberal.

The only think I can imagine is that they have decided that he is toast anyway so they might as well pile on.

Best report so far is from NewsBusted

" John Edwards admitted to having an affair this week, or as Democrats call it, 'being Presidential'"

LOL. The NY Times jumps, many months after they should have been able to write the same story, if only they’d wanted to.

They must have decided it’s more convenient now to bury Edwards quickly..... now he will be “old news” by the time the DNC rolls around.

Got to hand it to the NY Times, they seem just as credible as, say, Jerome Corsi writing about Obama!! Kudos to the NY Times for showing what they can do when they put just a little bit of effort into exposing liberals and their lies.

I don’t know.

Do you think this is meant to bury him quickly?

What I see in the story is an opportunity for a reporter(s) to make a name for himself and bust open a big scandal about sex and a campaign funds related cover-up.

Wasn’t it just last Aug. or Sept that the word on the street was some major paper had the dirt on a Presidential candidate but wasn’t going to publish?

I think this “news” published by the NYT is information they obtained quite some time ago.

Look for the LA Times to be next.

The Times is jumping in because the Enquirer paved the way for them.

They know they can't not cover this, and they know that stories like this sell.

They also know their balance sheet is as horrid as all of those newspapers that are now just distant history.

John Edwards is the bone they are throwing to what is left of their readership, and their stockholders.

It won't save them, though, IMO. The Gray Lady is almost dead.

Hillary suddah won...Edwards was the spoiler.

So if the Breck Girl would have stepped down before the primaries, Shrillery would have won the nomination and McCain would now be trailing badly in Ohio and Florida.

I love it when rats self destruct!

I really doubt they had the foresight to see that Breck Girl's campaign would destroy Shrillery. I'd say they were just protecting a liberal democrat -- standard procedure at the Slimes. Only now that they have determined that his political career is toast are they finally piling on.

I’ll be damned....Look at who showed up in the middle of the party!
IMHO this is an attempt to give a very wounded and fatally flawed candidate a breather.
It’s been a rough week for Obambi. He went to Hawaii to make sure his Grandmother doesn’t come out of the house or answer the phone. But the press conferences between picnics are a killer! Did you know there is NO Teleprompter on the Beach and Golf Course??
Everyone knew Edwards was a world class LIAR but this takes the cake. Even Slick Willy knew not to pass his demon seed along and create a lil Bubba!
He is going to pay dearly for living in “Two America’s” with “Two Lives” while wearing “Two Faces”. There is a special place in Hell for a man who cheats on a wife who has terminal cancer. He is beyond scum and will now have to take a dive for Obama and move above the fold.

A few articles prior to this one it states that Mrs. Clintons name will be placed on a roll call vote at the convention along with Obamma Lamma Ding Dongs.
I believe something will come out just prior to the vote damning Mr. Obamma Lamma.
She’ll win in a walkaway on the convention vote.
Not sure what the bomb will be but just wait, ya can almost feel it coming. Why do ya think the Clintons have been working the convention so hard?

So... Now it means that there really is something there, there. Of, course, there was always something there the Slimes just decided against reporting it. Now all of a sudden they want to.

I don't suppose this all has something to do with the Slimes trying to change the subject?

Obama Nation has hit #1. The general opinion of most Democrats is that Kerry lost the last election because he didn't fight back. But what if that analysis is completely wrong? Maybe Kerry lost the last election because he did fight back.

The consensus from most of the MSM is that the Swift Boat Book was all lies, but I think even the most lame member of the MSM would have to admit that there was actually some truth to that book. Kerry did his best to ignore it, but when the commercials started to coming he fought back.

Obama, unlike Kerry, has decided to fight back before the commercials have even started. What will the result be?

Well, there's nothing like publicity to keep a book going. My prediction is that Obama Nation will increase in sales and stay at #1 much longer, thereby perpetuating the very notions that Obama and his handlers do not want the electorate considering come November.

If Obama loses, I can hear the left-wing pundits lamenting ... 'If only he had ignored that book.'

So what better way is there for the Slimes to help out Barry, than an attempt to focus attention away from that subject and report extensively on a much more juicy target.... that slime-ball cheating politician Edwards.

Too funny, is there a conspirancy to elect the White-haired old Rhino?
The Rat disinformation program has managed to set up Obama for a fall that will be even more extreme than J. Fraud Kerry’s....the Moron Media thinks that they can destroy Corsi with personal attacks as 70%+ of the public considers the Moron Media to have ZERO credibility and to be conducting a huge cover-up for BHo, does not make sense.

Once in a while the NYT does indeed cut the rope on a sinking ship.

But this rag is moored to so many floundering hulks that it can’t see its own imminent demise.

One day the NYT will be a free hippy broadsheet handed out by derelicts who are paid in cases of Ripple.

Tucked into the middle of the article is this clincher:

But three months later, on April 1, 2007, the committee made another payment to Midline for $14,086, which coincided with the receipt of $14,035 by the committee from Mr. Edwards’s presidential campaign to cover the cost of office furniture, according to Federal Election Commission reports. The infusion of cash from the presidential campaign was necessary to make the payment to Midline, because the committee began April with only $7,932 in the bank, the reports show. The only other money the committee took in during that quarter was donations totaling $18,000 from Mr. Baron’s wife and three other people.

The NYT crowd must have just noticed that the "compromise" candidate (in case of a tie at the convention) was Edwards, and now he can't get the nomination under any circumstances.

That's why they are pounding a stake into his political heart!

I'm guessing they want the Edwards scandal completely gone before the beginning of the convention.

The New York Times is trying to reclaim some professional dignint.

So Mr. Gordon was referred to Reille by Mr.Baron. With friends like this who needs enemies. So the question is,...will MR. Gordon see after Reilles' interests or Mr.Barons' interest.

And I am sure Mrs.BAron and the three friends are tickle-to-death about being sucked into this fiasco. If both Mr.and Mrs. Baron are convicted, will they be allowed monthly conjugal visits and which prison will this take place in. Merry Christmas from Mr.Edwards. And just think, this is considered normal behavior by Mr. Edwards and the Past President of the American BAr Association, Mr.Baron.
