MEIENDORF CASTLE, Russia, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Russia's foreign minister said on Wednesday the United States had to choose between partnership with Moscow and the Georgian leadership which he described as a "virtual project".
"We understand that this current Georgian leadership is a special project of the United States, but one day the United States will have to choose between defending its prestige over a virtual project or real partnership which requires joint action," Sergei Lavrov told reporters.
U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday demanded Russia resolve a crisis with Georgia and said he would dispatch U.S. military aircraft with humanitarian supplies.

Project Georgia. Next question?
Easy decision.
To hell with Russia.
Oh...we multi-task quite well... I wouldn’t worry about it.
Project Georgia.
VR stands with the Georgian “Project.” Moscow can go to hell...!
Why would we want to be “partners” with a regime of murderous thugs who are actively aiding and abetting the Axis of Terror?
Russia can go suck an egg.
This is a very difficult decision.
On one hand, we have a small democracy that not only poses no threat to the United States, but has actually proven to be much more of an ally than our traditional ‘friends’ in Europe.
On the other hand, we have a nation that still maintains a few thousand nuclear warheads, most of them aimed at us. And now, they’re issuing an ultimatum.
Yep, very difficult choice, this one.
Bush has already made his decision, Sergei. And that has Moscow deeply rattled.
If I were the powers-that-be, I’d immediately make a very strong, serious and public reassessment of the U.S. relationship with Russia and just as immediately begin acting on that reassessment.
The thugs of Russia can kiss my a$$. They are no friend of ours, and never have been. They diplomatically shove a sharp stick in our eye every chance they get. Screw em!
Project Georgia.
If Georgia wants freedom and Russia wants another cold war, that’s easy. Screw Moscow.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I choose Georgia..
Real partnership?
With Russia?
The only real partnership Russia has is with Iran.
Putin is evil! We don’t want partners like him!
If America and Americans do not stand with Georgia, then the Ukraine, Poland and other CIS states that won their freedom from the USSR will be the next to fall.
Note to Russia; this isn't 1936 - 1939 and your not NAZI Germany. We learned our lesson since the last time this stunt was pulled. The last time, no one did anything while Hitler gobbled up the Sudeten Land, Austria, Czechoslovakia and 80 million people died. This time around we will stand with our friends against naked aggression.
fine. Georgia. Anything else, Nimrods?
If I were President, I’d send two letters to Moscow: F U
I don’t want to go to war somewhere else any more than anybody; however, we have mobilized under a Presidential recall in the past and can do so again.
Colonel, USAFR
I don’t like ultimatums. In fact, I usually find myself siding against anyone who presents me with one.
Remember the period leading up to the invasion of Iraq? Russia was right up front mucking up the issue while their advisors were all over Iraq doing God knows what? Remember the convoys leaving Iraq and going to Syria...esccorted by Russians, in some cases Russian trucks. And what about how helpful Russia has been with Iran? Their partnership is a JOKE!
Go to hell Russia!
We found out how good Russian military hardware fared against ours in ‘91 and ‘03, let’s see how good it does in ‘08.
Dumb asses
Partnership with Moscow? No thanks.
Moscow (KGB Kremlin Thug-ocracy) is leading Russia in exactly the wrong direction. Threatening neighbor nations. Rigging elections. Shutting down the free press. Murdering critics. Playing patsy-cake with the Mullahs in Iran.
Post-Soviet Russia had the opportunity to be great again. Putin is dragging it into the gutter.
I choose Liberty, Georgia chooses Liberty, Russia chooses tyranny. Death to tyranny!!
“The thugs of Russia can kiss my a$$. They are no friend of ours, and never have been. They diplomatically shove a sharp stick in our eye every chance they get. Screw em!”
This works both ways, unless you aren’t aware of the sticks the US has put in russia’s eyes.
The events leading up to Aug. 8 tell the whole story. This was a planned invasion spear headed by irregular Russian forces from North Ossetia and the separatist forces within Georgia.
” We choose to stand with free Georgia, her democratically elected government and it’s freedom-loving people. “
I agree with most of your post, but this reads like it was written by a PR firm.
US interests here have more to do with what russia is trying to accomplish than the nature of the georgian government. It is simply convenient, from a propaganda viewpoint, that they had elections (I don’t know how much foreign influence/money went into this election, a la Ukraine).
Personally I say "Lets dance" and do the job Patton said we'd eventually have to do 65 years ago!!
The new Russia, same as the old Russia.
Georgia no contest.
Russia: helping Iran get nukes, arms iran, syria, etc, flies nuclear bomber to our coasts and allies coasts, tries to buzz our aircraft carriers and is intercepted like imbeciles.
Georgia: helped us in Iraq,is a real democracy, lived under the kremilns authoritarian boot for far to long.
Let me just register my “FU Moss Cow”.
De Oppressor Libre
Sic Semper Tyrannis!
Picking off former SSR’s, supporting (or financially supporting) election of pro-US governments in them, etc., in fact is a matter of GREAT concern to russia and was guaranteed to concern them.
I don’t factually know how much US corporate involvement was involved in what was in effect the looting of russian assets and natural resources from the State in teh yeltsin years, but i don’t see how they could have simply been on the sidelines. Maybe someone has more info?
Putin, you are SLEAZE!!!

But do the liberals remember?
Take the virtual project over the psychotic Bear - every time.
Truly, there is nothing new under the sun.
Cease all foreign aid.
Chose Gerogia.
Tomorrow the KGB-Oil-Nation aka Russia, will ask us to chose between Latvia and Russia.
Then the EU and Russia.
then...

We Americans are Georgians NOW. Everytime I look at Putin, he reminds me of that troll that wanted the “ring” of “Lord of the Rings”.
Refering to one Sen.John McCain.
