Obama proclaimed that he was coming to Berlin not as a politician, but as a "proud citizen of the United States" and - this is the telling part - as a "fellow citizen of the world." But there are no "citizens of the world" and citizenship requires a state. Already, Obama has made clear that his view of the Constitution is entirely open and says he agrees "with Justice Breyer's view of the Constitution that is not a static but a living document." That's one reason Breyer is the leading advocate of invoking foreign laws - even foreign polls - to glean the Constitution's meaning. Obama has already confessed that his highest criterion for selecting judges will be that they have "the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom, to understand what it's like to be poor or African-American or gay...and that's the criteria by which I'm going to be selecting judges."

Well, with examples like Howard Dean, Patrick "Leaky" Leahy, and Bernie Sanders, who can blame them for not wanting to admit they're from Vermont?
“citizen of the world” sounds exactly right for this guy. An imaginary relationship to a nonexistent political body pretty much captures the atmosphere of illusion and hoodwink that makes up the themes of his campaign.
As one who spent 25 Christmases overseas in a variety of countries, I think I have a lot more of a claim to being “a citizen of the world” than that community organizer. But I do not claim that mantle. I proudly carry my U.S. Passport.
Very good line. “Many a truth is said in jest.”
Reminds me of a black actor playing Bogart’s role in Casablanca!
