Family speaks out as Montreal recovers from riot

----snip

Villanueva was reportedly shooting dice with friends in Henri Bourassa Park in the ethnically-diverse borough when police attempted to make a routine arrest.

Montreal police say about 20 youths then surrounded them -- several of them reportedly rushing at police.

----snip

Villanueva's death triggered an angry and violent response Sunday night. Vehicles were set on fire and there was widespread looting and violence targeting police and emergency service workers.

One police officer was shot in the leg, while another officer and an ambulance technician received minor injuries. The technician was struck in the head with a bottle, said CTV Montreal's Maya Johnson.

"This morning Montreal's police chief Yvan Delormes appealed for calm in this city after such a tense night," Johnson told CTV's Canada AM.

----snip

"This is a group of people that are trying to say something to us and I am willing to listen," Delormes said at a Monday news conference.

"It is a very serious situation," Coderre said. "Of course there was some major vandalism but at the same time ... I spoke with many of the citizens and many of the authorities. Right now everybody is talking to each other, so I have a good feeling that we're on the right track."

What a classic idiot liberal thing to say after a riot. This should be archived somewhere among the stupidest liberal quotes ever.

This situation calls for a new rendition of an old adage.

Shoot first. Talk and "understand" later.

Lawless mobs attacking police and emergency workers is LAWLESSNESS. It seems that laws are supposed to be broken with impunity as long as we "talk and understand" one another.

What a load of smelly garbage!

I sympathize totally with the police. Let them do their job, and we’ll all be safer. I have no sympathy for the rioters.

Yeah, they are saying the want to be able to shoot craps on the curb and resist arrest and taunt and assault police.

There are two Canadas...

Yeah, I think so too. Nearly choked when I read that.

Are these the same sort of "youths" that have been rioting in Europe?

The”Yutes” should be given a CS bath, followed by a liberal dose of wood shampoos.

What they are trying to say is, “You were crazy ever letting us immigrate here. We do not know how to live in a civilized country and don’t want to learn. Now we kill you.”

Quebec doesn’t tolerate diversity. They rabidly enforce protections of French First language policies.

We got told “no service” and kicked out when we spoke in English at a restaurant while looking at the menu.

Sorta sums up the kind of people we put in power here and in Canada!

A bunch of idiots who engage in contorted, tortured 'logic'...

it is a very simple solution to a problem posed by a bunch of foul jerks...much like planting poison ivy in the hedges in England frequented by the queers...but i bet my suggestion wasn’t used there either...

Man, that's hard line...even in France they aren't like that (anymore, anyway...).

I'm in France for business a fair amount and engage in pidgin French to get around, but virtually everyone speaks English these days there...obviously the Quebecois still feel under siege so they keep up the older chauvinist attitudes.

I kinda like the Emperor Justinian’s solution to the Blues and Greens.

Would immediately put an end to the “youths” in both Canada, France, and South Central LA.

"Dany Villanueva said officers had called him over and then held him to the ground, and his brother had told them to let him go. Then he heard gunshots and his brother fell to the ground. "

Sounds pretty straightforward to me. Cops try to arrest a Hispanic punk. Punk's brother complains, dangerously assaults cop or tries to grab weapon. Cops don't even blink but shoot the punk's brother dead. The young man had a death wish. And he was stupid, also.

We have lots of Canadian friends, and I wouldn't wish our misfortune on them for the world, but they too have illegal Mexicans and Central Americans. Welcome to a problem magnified 1,000,000-fold in Southern California.

I believe that Dany Villanueva was actually HAITIAN. There are Haitians with Spanish last names, just as there are Dominicans with French last names.

You Calipornians with your obsession over Latinos... ;-)

Quebec is worse. Do you know what a “stop sign” says in France? Yep, STOP.
Do you know what a “stop sign” says in Quebec? It says, ARRET.

That is funny.

Yeah, in France and the overseas departments - Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana - the signs do say Stop. I only see Arret on temporary signs or back of trucks.

The Quebecois are obviously trying to be more French than even the French!

I know you’re on the right (e.g., correct) side so I take your comment tongue in cheek ...

First, be advised that MY name is Hispanic. Hernandez. My family has been in the USA for over a hundred years. So I’m not just another David Duke-type yahoo.

Yes, we Calfornians have big reason to be obsessed with Latinos. In a state of 335 million we have 11-15 million Mexicans and Central Americans. Most are Mexican. And only perhaps 1/5th are Americans of long lineage like me. The rest are mostly descendants of illegal entry, or here illegally. Your guess is as good as mine but the probable number of official illegals is 8 million. And another 3 million with a green card due to anchor babies and chain migration, or the first amnesty program from the 1980s.

Another way to put it. Since the late 1970s, the net increase in illegal Latinos to the USA has been 350,000 per year. Per YEAR. Over 30 years, that equals 10 million.

What does this mean? The politics and culture of the state have been irrevocably altered. It means that 1/10th of the population of Mexico is living in the US. That is effectively an invasion. California has had huge budget problems for twenty years. Our legislators tie themselves in knots trying to fix them; Republicans hold the line on no new taxes by hardly one vote each budget cycle. Do you realize that if we weren’t paying for illegals’ education, health care, welfare, nutrition programs, other aid programs, and subsidizing their retirement, that California would have a huge budget surplus?

You are a NJ resident. It’s really a great state. I lived there in grad school for two years. But if in 10 years, 1/3 of your residents were from some really crappy place like Somalia, or Indonesia, or the Phillipines, you too would be pretty pissed. When idiotic immigration policies decimate your schools, languages spoken on the street, tax rates, it steams you. Also when you watch a beloved hometown turn into a third-world cesspool hardly better than Rio de Janeiro or Mexico City.

Rant over. Sorry. I’m not angry at you. I’m still not over what illegal immigration, and lack of enforcement of immigration laws, has done to the once-great state of California.
