WASHINGTON (AFP) - The administration of US President George W. Bush has proposed revisions to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) so that the law can not be used to regulate the emission of greenhouse gases.
The new regulations would reduce reviews by government scientists that have been mandatory whenever federal agencies propose projects such as dams or highways that could threaten endangered species...

What the heck is it with polar bears anyway...they've been eating eskimos for thousands of years so you'd think they'd be ready to get rid of them!

Bush should have been on this six years ago. Too little, too late.

One little known provision of the proposed changes is that permission would be granted to produce oil from pelts of endangered species when they expire from global warming.

I heard a short news segment about this on the radio this morning. This segment said that it leaves it to the local agencies to make regulations and not rely on federal scientists recommendations. I admit I haven’t done any further research into the real deal, but my first thought was this is a mistake; not that the ESA should go as a whole, but leaving it to locals can sometimes be more severe. You get a couple people on local governing board that really have an extreme environmental agenda and that’s a whole lot of trouble.

The ratio of eskimos to polar bears has been climbing and thus endangering the polar bears. The Eskimos are enriched by the income from oil.
Oil is bad

Maybe Bush should have advised Kempthorne of this about three months ago when the Dept of the Interior approved the listing of the polar bear as threatened.
As other FReepers have said: Too little, too late.

Bush is playing chess again. He forces showdowns like this when Americans are really angry about an issue. It also goes hand in hand with drilling. People are fed up with high gas prices and are more likely to be irritated being lectured about greenhouse gas emissions. It’s a brilliant piece of stagemanship and timing. I really hope it works but in the meantime can conservative cynics get off the president’s back and start pounding the libs on this? What, did you think Bush’s accomplishments thus far have been luck?

There’s something else about Bush, no that we are at this important showdown. It’s that he doesn’t telegraph his moves. Once he does that the media is all over him or any Republican president ready to undo his plans. Bush relies on conservatives to see his design. He assumes conservatives are smarter than the libs and they are when they want to be!

I agree. The libs responsible for this should be "pounded" for it. Who would they be again?

There's no way a Slave Party Congress will give him that and Bush knows it. This is just bogus grandstanding.
He could have got this four years ago and didn't ask.

Green house gas is not an endangered species.
Fascist Democrats will use anything for power.
I am for repealing the endangered species act and replacing it with a conservation corps for breeding endangered species and returning them to the wild.

I agree. The libs responsible for this should be "pounded" for it. Who would they be again?Liberal democrats who have shoved this global warming crap down our throats for years instead of looking after American interests. I say we aim high. Let's "pound" Pelosi. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Reid is another one. If one or both get knocked out of Congress, it would be a great blow to the global warmers and the radical environmentalists. Plus, the country would be a whole lot safer and more prosperous.
