On a planet 4C hotter, all we can prepare for is extinction
The Guardian ^ | Oliver Tickell

On a planet 4C hotter, all we can prepare for is extinctionThere's no 'adaptation' to such steep warming. We must stop pandering to special interests, and try a new, post-Kyoto strategy We need to get prepared for four degrees of global warming, Bob Watson told the Guardian last week. At first sight this looks like wise counsel from the climate science adviser to Defra. But the idea that we could adapt to a 4C rise is absurd and dangerous. Global warming on this scale would be a catastrophe that would mean, in the immortal words that Chief Seattle probably never spoke, "the end of living and the beginning of survival" for humankind. Or perhaps the beginning of our extinction.

The collapse of the polar ice caps would become inevitable, bringing long-term sea level rises of 70-80 metres. All the world's coastal plains would be lost, complete with ports, cities, transport and industrial infrastructure, and much of the world's most productive farmland. The world's geography would be transformed much as it was at the end of the last ice age, when sea levels rose by about 120 metres to create the Channel, the North Sea and Cardigan Bay out of dry land. Weather would become extreme and unpredictable, with more frequent and severe droughts, floods and hurricanes. The Earth's carrying capacity would be hugely reduced. Billions would undoubtedly die.

There would be new coast plains, new ports, new cities and new everything else. Why do these whackos assume people will just sit still and drown in their beach houses?..................

where is all this global warming I’ve been led to believe is destroying the planet? It’s in the 60’s today in the great state of Maine, our summer has been one rain and cold filled mess. I say a day to promote global warming is needed.

Meanwhile, experts tell us that the global temperature hasn't risen for the past 11 years and isn't expected to rise for at least the next 7 years, despite a constant rate of increase of the amount of CO2 being produced throughout the world. Their explanation?

Global warming is on a "hiatus"...

Which one is it, Bob? Are you asking us to prepare for extinction? Seems like that's all you're asking us to do. I bet, when you say 'prepare', you mean send wheelbarrows full of money to your research institute.

The Earth is cooling not warming as the link and passage below show. The liberal mainstream media has brainwashed 80% of the people into thinking the planet is getting warmer when it is really getting colder and will continue to cool:

http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2008/06/the-sunspot-mys.html

“He also noted that the world cooled quickly between January last year and January this year, by about 0.7C.

“This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record, and it puts us back to where we were in 1930,” Dr Chapman noted in The Australian recently.”

It was 57F here on top of the Cumberland Plateau of SE Tennessee this morning. Normally, it would be in the low 70's. Our projected high today will be in the mid 80's. Normally it would be in the mid 90's. The A/C is off, the windows are open and we are lovin' it!

Years ago we allowed nature to take it's course with the stupid, and ignorant.

Now we protect, and enable them.

I'm with you. Put a bounty on stupid, and ignorant.

A free fill up with fuel for each one ought to put a dent in them.

Mega-engineering idea of the day: Why not purposely increase CO2 to the point where we actually do get some warming? Then we can add sulfates to jet fuel as needed to selectively cool the polar caps or wherever we want it colder. This is the same cloud cooling effect caused by volcanic eruptions. Based on the Earth’s history we WILL have an ice age eventually which would be davastating to humanity. The time will come when we need to control the Earth’s climate to our own advantage.

There is a concept in SCIENCE which is used to separate theory from fact. The proposer develops a hypothesis that is then tested against the real facts and then modified as needed until it matches the real world conditions. What escapes these zealots is that to date, not a single hypothesis of theirs, that I know of, can explain the real world CURRENT CONDITIONS and thus all of their predictions for the future become suspect.

At this point, for the Libs, “Global Warming” just HAS to be true, facts be damned. If it isn’t, it means (a) Al Gore is wrong or (b) Al Gore is scamming them. Neither possibility is something they want to think about very much.

It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature!

Besides, who would underwrite the liability insurance coverage for such a project? A little "oopsie" could really be a bad day for us all.

Regards,
GtG

PS I seem to recall a suggestion that we spread soot on the icecaps to encourage heating/melting. It seemed like a dumb idea to me 'cuz the icecaps are generally in the dark for six months at a time, and when the sun is up it barely clears the horizon.
