One Nation, Under a New Obama Salute

George Bush had his three-fingered W salute that supporters flashed when greeting him at presidential campaign events in 2000. And now, if a Los Angeles creative agency gets its way, Sen. Barack Obama will see fans meet him with his own salute like the one above. “Our goal is to see a crowd of 75,000 people at Obama’s nomination speech holding their hands above their heads, fingers laced together in support of a new direction for this country, a renewed hope, and acceptance of responsibility for our future,” says Rick Husong, owner of The Loyalty Inc. Husong tells me that he got the idea after seeing the famous Obama-Progress poster by artist Shepherd Fairey. “We wanted to get involved some way,” he says. So, the agency came up with their own a symbol of hope and progress that also plays off Obama’s name. “We thought, ‘Let’s try and start a movement where even while walking down the street, people would hold up the O and you would know that they were for Obama,’ ” says Husong. Much thought went into the relatively simple idea. “You interlace your hands in a circle, the interlacing being a symbol of different types of people coming together and the circle a symbol of unity,” he says. Their design, unlike Fairey’s, is free, and Husong is urging people to download it and print it on posters and T-shirts. “We want to see it everywhere, but more importantly we want this sign to take the world by storm.”

"The parallels between 2008 and 1860 are too striking to be mere coincidence."

I would be interested in learning what the parallels are.

Good lord....(eye roll)

These people are going to need intensive therapy when the Big O loses in a landslide in November.

Thank you.

I am sure that the messiah, lord Obama (Taxes Be Upon You) greatly appreciates this.

Just how stupid is this campaign to fail to recognize that most of the “trappings” and symbology of their CANDIDATE
and the effort to get him elected is BOUND to create the worst kind of cognitive dissonance with HUGE numbers of the American people , who don’t want ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING remotely suggestive of Cultish/SecretSociety/Nazi/Inner Circle specialness. NO NO NO!!!THis asshat might as well be a Scientologist!!
THAT might as well serve as his “Ideology”-—he’s just that obscure, and out of touch.....but ever so much worse, considering the numbers he’s managed to chalk up.

I think Godwin’s law needs to be suspending regarding O-hole’s campaign. There are just way too many frightening paralells to it.

Was not familiar with Godwin’s law, looked it up.
Was glad that you think it should be suspended re: Obama.
Way too many frightening parallels (that’s the way you spell it) , “indeed”.
It’s not that “he’s a Nazi”, so much as a demagogue, and a
“college-campus demagogue” at that, who’s managed to entrance so many people you would hope would know better.
HE WILL LOSE, though.....unquestionably. The signs are already there, and I’ve been saying it for 6-7 months.
I would love to see my fondest scenario play out, one that has been mystifying me since early in the Primaries, when he started to show “strength”.......that he would finally NOT get the nomination at the Convention, and HILLARY, who has only a marginally better chance of beating McCain, would waltz in from the wings, and take the nomination.
I think the DNC may be breaking their brains right about now trying to figure how this might be made possible w/o bringing about a major social upheaval among Obama supporters, and volatile blacks, mainly. It could happen, and that is one thing they would want to avoid if they “re”-supported Hillary, and threw Obama under the bus, or at least attempted to mollify him by giving him the VEEP slot. SOMETHING though, very damaging would have to come out about him, and I’m sure Hill and Bill have at least a few cards to play, Jokers to be sure, to bring this about. Think Larry Sinclair, think Birth Certificate, think ANY documents relating to Obama which have NOT been released, and never will, unless they’re forged and counterfeit.

“I would be interested in learning what the parallels are.”

Sure.

As a nation we are at least as divided idealogically as we were in 1860 (in 1860 the main issue was economics, and it was a very destablizing divide). Today the main division is based along the fault lines of left and right: We have been tending leftwards towards full socialism for a while now; with the Dims controlling Congress and the MSM so fully in the tank for a marxist presidential candidate, and the discourse arising to a fever pitch, we are almost to the point of outright violence. The left is calling for wholesale redistribution of wealth, with the American middle class to bear the brunt of that redistribution. The family as an institution has been denigrated and marginalized to the point it no longer has the right to determine its own direction, and it has all but lost its right to influence and raise their children in the way they feel is best: The raising of America’s children has now been usurped by the government, and that was intentional on the government’s part. Our public schools have become madrassas of political correctness and multiculturalism, both to the detriment of American culture and society. We have reached the point where the obscene and perverted and uncopnscionable are praised as progressive and “the new order.” We have pretty much lost most of the freedoms our founding fathers secured for us. You know something? Our founding fathers went to war over far less tyranny than what we suffer under today. I know an awful lot of people who have had enough of the moral and social decay and political corruption and all-out assault on decency, the villification of the family, the all-but outlawing of faith (except for the “new” religion of fascist environmentalism), ad nauseum. Just ask yourself: Are you more free than your parents were? Depending on your age, are you more free today than yhou were when you were 21? Are you confident that your children will have a future steeped in freedom and individual choice to bgecome what they want to become by their own sweat and ambition; or do you see a future for your children that relegates them to the back of the line so that an unqualified and militant member of a politically protected class can take his or her place, but at your expense?

I can go on and on. Don’t get me started.

> I just read the wikipedia article. Wish I hadn’t.

The good news about the text article is that it doesn't jump out at you; you can stop reading when the going gets rough.

> Thank God no images came up.

You got that right. My introduction to it, many years ago, was a friend who posted a link to The Image, with the text reading something innocuous like "Sunset at Key West".

It took me a week to convince my eyelids that it was safe to open up again.

"Don’t get me started."

LOL! Sounds like I already did! I agree with you - we owe King George an apology. My family joined the Missouri 51st Militia in the '90s - I wrote and edited their newsletter - the members all were good people deeply concerned about the direction this country is going. The militia is not active now. It seems like once Clinton was out, everyone thought things would get better. Instead they have gotten worse. My health no longer permits me to write as I used to. I appreciate your response to my question.
