Lieberman ‘on McCain short-list’
Financial Times ^ | 08/09/2008 | Stephanie Kirchgaessner in Washington

Posted on 08/09/2008 7:29:47 AM PDT by Will88

"Joe Lieberman, the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee who has endorsed John McCain, is being vetted as a potential running mate for the Republican presidential hopeful, according to an adviser to Mr McCain’s campaign."

"Conservatives would be pissed as hell – I think you would have a revolt, but sometimes John does what John wants to do,” the McCain adviser said.

"John does what John wants to do..." If he's serious, it seems like John is almost trying to further alienate much of the Republican base, as if amnesty for all and his tepid support of more domestic crude production (yep, offshore IF the specific state agrees)aren't enough .

But Lieberman supports the war in Iraq, so what if he's pro-abortion and a lib on practically every other issue that could be named. But the Romney-haters should be pleased that maybe Joe has catapulted above Mitt on the short-list.

Oh, please - not Lieberman!

While he's more rational than other Demoncrats, I don't want him. If he doesn't put someone decent in there as VP, I will not vote for McPain. I have no more patience for this nonsense.

The up-side would be the Republican Governor in CT would be able to appoint an “R” to his seat. That would really frost the Dems....

If we believed that everyone was on the short list who the media spoon fed us as being on it, the short(sic) list would be 200 names long and include the waiter at Denny’s where McCain ate last week.

As I noted on a related thread:

...if McCaine goes with Joe, he loses my vote. I see no reason to vote for a 70-something Republican candidate, who apparently couldn't find a single Republican, anywhere in the entire country, to serve as his 'backup.' If McCaine goes with Joe, & passes away while in office, he would have just reversed the election results, & thrown the White House to the D@mocrats.

Don't get me wrong - I would still cast my votes for other Republicans (meaning I would not sit out the election). I just wouldn't vote for McCaine/Lieberman. Guess they can plan on 'independents' filling in for me...

Amen! This would be the final straw. We’ll survive 4 years of Che Obama but this would send the GOP and conservativism back 50 years.

Well, the writer is citing a source inside the campaign, but the more apt point might be: why in the hell does anyone in the McCain campaign want to float the name of anyone who disagrees with Republicans on practically every issue except Iraq?

Do they purposely want to alienate more Republicans? This is not smart politics.

All this does is make a third party viable or elects Hillary Clinton after she "removes" Obama.

That really would be the final straw. I would hate not to vote for president at all, but I could not vote for him if he decided to groom what amounts to a liberal Democrat for a future presidency.

My wife says she won’t vote for McCain anyway. Maybe she’ll change her mind. I’m still deciding, but Lieberman would pretty well clinch it against McNasty.

Let’s just hope this is a stupid anonymous adviser and a malicious press trying to cause trouble. Or maybe they plan to go with Mitt and are floating this so the base will breathe a sigh of relief when it turns out (slightly) better than we feared.

We all know how these 'sources' are. For all we know 'the' campaign is Obama's campaign. I just don't trust anything the media says until it actually happens. All stories like this are meant to do is get us pissed off (as if McCain hasn't done enough to cause that) and sit out. We need to keep pushing McCain to do the right thing.

re: ..if McCaine goes with Joe, he loses my vote.)))

Definitely. Two things have to happen for me to vote instead of write-in Betty Boop.

1) He has to pick a decent VP.

2) There has to be an opposition in the House emerge that will defy McCain on all his anti-conservative nonsense.

There are many days that I believe conservative America just might be better off with Obama.

That's the $64,000 question - who will Juan pick for his VP? A lot of people will vote for him no matter who he chooses, then there are some who are waiting to see who he picks (which is crucial, I think - considering his age & health concerns).

What's really sad is that no one has any idea if the man is going to pick a Republican or a Democrat??? This is what the party has come to??? I really believe these are the last, waning years for the GOP.

John ain’t THAT stupid... but it is nice to confuse the heck out of Obama’s strategists... I think Obamamesiah has to pick out a VP before the Democrat convention... and if John is picking folks all over the map... the Obamamists must be going nuts...

True, but the last R senator we had was Lowell P.'LP Wacky' Weicker, a RINO who could make Dodd look conservative. LP Wacky was one of the few R I ever voted against - in his Senate rack against Lieberman and when he wanted to screw up CT as Governor. (In 1994, I voted for Tom Scott - he would've repealed the INCOME TAX!!)

Psst, Rell, see if Gary Franks would like to be Senator.

He just seems to not want to win doesn't he? Every time I say "Ok, I am going to vote for McCain because we can't afford to have Obambi in the WH, McCain does something, or says something, that really, really irritates me as a conservative.

I think it is because he knows that most conservatives will vote for him because of Obamaosama and he feels he can do anything he wants and get elected.
