The Republican Party suffers from a pervasive and inexplicable failure to identify some key points of distinction between themselves and their Democratic opponents on issues that speak clearly and forcefully to the public consciousness - and to run with them. I.e. to put and keep those issues in the spotlight of the campaign.
The latest case in point: Racial preferences - i.e. Affirmative Action. Many "red meat" Democrats as well as most Republicans see these measures for what they are - state-sponsored racism - plain and simple. More deeply - an attempted end run around the most basic tenet of our Judaic-Christian heritage - "doing onto others as one wants others to do to oneself"/"not doing to others that which is hateful to oneself." I.e. don't discriminate against me by race if you want me to refrain from doing that to you. And the realities of the current political cycle seem to bear this out:

Thank God. This program has gone on for longer that was ever necessary and has been blown too far out of proportion, becoming a battle cry for "those poor, underprivileged, and still-hurting people". It is very bothersome that someone would be given a job or be admitted to college simply because they are a minority, when many better qualified candidates are presented. “It is very bothersome that someone would be given a job or be admitted to college simply because they are a minority, when many better qualified candidates are presented. It has become a case in which the injured has become the injurer.”
That’s essentially what I meant when I said that:
“Many “red meat” Democrats as well as most Republicans see these measures for what they are - state-sponsored racism - plain and simple. More deeply - an attempted end run around the most basic tenet of our Judaic-Christian heritage - “doing onto others as one wants others to do to oneself”/”not doing to others that which is hateful to oneself.” I.e. don’t discriminate against me by race if you want me to refrain from doing that to you.”

I think the response I posted to BloodOrFreedom applies to your comments as well - i.e. that AA amounts to an attempted end- run around the Golden Rule. Which precept when applied in this case would translate as
“dont discriminate against me by race if you want me to refrain from doing that to you.
And, almost all defence of AA in the last 45+ years has amounted to various attempts to get around that simple ethical conclusion.
All the best!
