According to FNC (unless I misheard) there have been 1400+ deaths so far. Does that sound possible?

I believe we must provide support and aid to Russia and make it very clear that Russia will suffer serioius losses

I'm sure you mean "we must aid and support GEORGIA".

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT our Georgian allies against the Russian hordes. Looks how their crammed tank columns are lumbering through the streets. This just calls for carpet bombing.

1400 deaths would not surprise me given the lethality of modern weapon systems.

The next 24 hours will determine Georgia’s fate.

This is actually the Second Russian-Georgian War I think.

And no, we do not have a dog in this fight. Serbia / Kosovo is exactly the same as Georgia / South Ossetia.

Oh, it’s possible. The first article I saw quoted a Georgian saying she saw her village shelled. If that’s happening in more than one place - and I’m sure it is - the dead could number well over 1400 already. This is all very early, and uncertain, but it is possible.

The restructuring of the old USSR has been underway since Putin rose to leadership. It has sped up since he stepped from the main position.

He wants the old Evil Empire back to where it was.

Putin is evil...KGB-evil.

Somewhere I saw that there were something like 1,000 US Marines and maybe soldiers as well in Georgia on some sort of joint training exercise with the Georgians.

Anyone know if they are still there. That is a “flashpoint” I would not like to see.

When the Russian reaches the middle of the Caucasus and controls the Eastern Caspian shore, linking up with Iran, WE SURE AS HECK have a dog in this fight. We were wrong and should have stayed out of the Balkans, which was an Euro-Russian issue. But we can’t betray our Georgian ally who has troops in Iraq.

Georgia has been one of our staunchest allies in the War against Islamic Jihad with a 2400 man contingent in iraq alongside our forces.

That fact alone makes this worth watching, and helping if asked.

You are correct. Serbia/Kosovo is exactly the same. Clinton was wrong to intervene for Kosovo then, Bush was wrong to recognize Kosovo and we would be wrong again not to come to Georgia’s aid. A big difference between Serbia and Georgia is that Georgia is a staunch ally of ours. That should count for something.

...and what we did in Serbia was wrong and had no moral justification...and neither does this.

But there are HUGE differences.

1st, the Russians are physically invading.

2nd, the Georgians have weapons systems that are on par with the Russians and, particularly in air combat (but also on the ground), can contest the issue, which the Serbians could not with us.

3rd, there is a huge historical issue with the former Soviet Union which surrounding countries, and Europe in particular will not discount...and neither should we. Any pretect to start gobbling up former Soviet satellite states MUST be opposed.

4th, the Georgians in the immediate past, have been our steadfast allies in combat in the War on Terror. We cannot allow them to be trodden under.

None of those conditions applied to the Serbian Kosovo conflict...and besides, like I said, what we did ha dnor moral justification...it was all politics by the Clinton administration andn should never have happened.

I have to repeat myself... you are a total moron if you are serious with this comment. How is Georgia "radical". They are CHRISTIANS defending their territory against Putin/Russia who are supporting our Islamic enemies in Iran and Syria! I can't believe how totally clueless your comment is! Georgia is our friggin ally engaged in Iraq!

IF your comment was in irony, you should work to improve your sarcasm skills. I'm speechless.

Obama’s Red Mentor Praised Red Army
AIM Report | By Cliff Kincaid | April 30, 2008

Barack Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA, wrote a poem dedicated to the Soviet Red Army. “Smash on, victory-eating Red Army,” he declared. He also wrote poems attacking traditional Christianity and the work of Christian missionaries.

The “Red Army” poem goes beyond hoping for the communists to beat the Nazis in World War II and hails the Soviet revolution. It says:

Show the marveling multitudes
Americans, British, all your allied brothers
How strong you are
How great you are
How your young tree of new unity
Planted twenty-five years ago
Bears today the golden fruit of victory!

Yes. This pictures of Russian columns just beg for another Desert Storm style “Highway of Death”. It’s probably out of question that we would engage directly. But the Georgians should have access to enough weaponry to kick out the Sovi... eh Russians!

Actually, Russia had nothing to do with this choice. As reported, it appears that Georgia launched an offensive in South Osietta to try to take it back from the seperatist. Russia responded today by bombing the airbase in Tslit and rolling a column of tanks into South Osietta.

I have no doubt that the Russians are backing the seperatist, but they didn’t pick the specific day this went down, though I’m sure they were planning on this eventuality.
