Still, it was probably too much to assume every Republican would work out that their side was winning this issue. And so, last Friday, in stumbled Sens. Lindsey Graham, John Thune, Saxby Chambliss, Bob Corker and Johnny Isakson -- alongside five Senate Democrats. This "Gang of 10" announced a "sweeping" and "bipartisan" energy plan to break Washington's energy "stalemate." What they did was throw every vulnerable Democrat, and Mr. Obama, a life preserver.

EVERY “bipartisan effort” is a concession to the Democrats.
A maneuver championed of course, by the moderate Democrat who heads the Republican ticket this Fall.

I actually think this will still sink the Democrats. When Pelosi and Reid get back they will be forced to address the issue and if 5 “neutral” Democrats can't force the Rat leadership to vote then the American people will know who to hold responsible.

Actually, the Republicans fumbled when they failed to overturn the Offshore Drilling ban in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 when they controlled the White House, the Senate and the House of Reps.

The highlight is instead $84 billion in tax credits, subsidies and federal handouts for alternative fuels and renewables. The Gang of 10 intends to pay for all this in part by raising taxes on . . . oil companies!
This is depressing.

hope you’re right.
as the “privileged”, to use their word, they fly about the u.s. and the world,
and drive here and there with abandon.
but they don’t understand that they are causing severe hardship to the “working class” that they pretend to represent.

The real fumble , in the end zone is from Obama. If he’s the leader of the democrats he should call them back into session and get a bill passed which calls for more drilling and exploration. He has failed to do this. The gop dropped the ball for 12 years, but McCain and the gop are ready to go right now. So we can play the blame game but the reality is McCain and the gop are ready to act today, Obama and the democrats are not. Plain and simple.
To: ken21
This was total idiocy by the senate Republicans. Total idiocy.
Drill here, drill now has been working. But these buffoons somehow could't grasp that as polls shifted in their favor in the past few months.

With Lindsey Graham in the Republican Five, who doubts that McCain also approves of this? Compromising with the Dems. on the crude oil supply issue is about the dumbest thing Republicans could do at present. This is their best issue, so I guess they can’t stand having a strong issue, so they night largely take it off the table as an election issue.
They should forget this compromise nonsense and push for drilling everywhere, which about 70% of the voters support. But some of them just can’t deal with an issue that has 70% approval, so they might well put this one on the same shelf with the immigration issue and escort Obama into the White House, in spite of his continuing to prove how unready he is.

I agree. These guys gave away half the store before we started. The only “bargaining” now in the senate will be between the democrat’s “do nothing”, and this “compromise” by the republicans.

That’s the problem with the idiotic GOP in Washington. The two houses are never on the same page on anything. Give the Rats credit. As dumb and stupid as they are, at least they are on the same page. Whatever Nancy says, Harry is usually right behind.
Learn the game you GOP gutless wonders in the Senate!!!!!!!

Obama is not a very smart man. Charming at times, but there is no intellectual gravitas inside his head. If he had the Clinton's criminal mind to work with, he'd be up by 20 points now instead of in a psoition to get blown-out by McCain. And make no mistake about it, he is going to get crushed by a mean-spirited old man.
To: ken21
Actually, this tells us what Republicans to work against and make sure they never get reelected. This can be a hard blow to the jackass RINOs. We have to clean house.

I’m telling you these guys need to be taken to the woodshed. McCain is doing an excellent job as are other candidates who are running like John Kennedy in LA, Steve Pearce in NM, Jim Gilmore in VA as is the House.
Get on message folks. It is not time to be throwing life preservers to Democrats who are drowning.

Why is this news? It came out last Friday and it is just being talked about now?
My question is what skeletons do these Republicans have in their closets that they are trying to hide. Obviously Lindsey Graham is still under pressure from the gay and lesbian radicals, but what about the rest of them?
It is time for McCain to throw Lindsey Graham under the bus.

They are doing it now and that is what is important. You have to strike while the issue is hot otherwise people don’t pay attention. People are paying attention. Republicans need to make a commitment to an America First Energy plan.

They can still win this issue if the Republican Senators and Reps stop any budget continuing resolution until Obama, Pelosi and Reid deal with the energy crisis.
If the Rat Leadership doesn't deal with it than all the Rats will suffer a collective punishment.
