At least a dozen people have been killed in a bus crash in Sherman, north of Dallas, this morning. Sherman police say the bus was heading north on Highway 75 when it ran off the highway near Park Aveneue a little before 1 a.m. A police department spokesman says they're investigating a report that the bus blew a tire but that has not been confirmed. The bus was apparently on its way from Houston to Missouri. An unknown number of passengers were hurt, some of them critically, and they've taken to area hospitals.
How very sad. Prayers sent.
I’ve driven that road hundreds of times with no problems.
I couldn’t find any updates at this time.
My prayers for the families and friends of the victims.

According to Fox News, the bus had 55 passengers on board and careened off a bridge, apparently after blowing a tire.
Prayers Up...
It will be interesting to find out where those tires were made.
Our prayers are with the folks down in Dallas/Ft Worth.
According to the Dallas Morning News:
It was a private charter bus going from Houston to Missouri.... It didn’t give a specific destination in MO . Maybe a tour bus headed for Branson, who knows at this time.......
Prayers up for those involved and their families.
One can’t help wondering if their tires were over-inflated.
We were following a large mail truck two days ago and one tire exloded and threw shrapnel all over the road. Luckily we were far enough back to avoid the larger pieces.
Prayers to all the families. Initial speculation is that it was a blown tire. In an effort to save a few bucks because of the high gas prices, I bet there are some who overinflate and people do need to be careful about that. But we need to watch the temptation to take a cheap political shot in wake of such a tragedy.

What’s with all the comments being removed from this article, btw ???
Quite possible - the maximum pressure that can be used in a tire is stamped on the side of the tire. That pressure corresponds to the maximum weight capacity of the tire. In general, your best tire wear and handling in all weather conditions will occur when the tire is inflated to the pressure recommended by the car manufacturer unless you are carrying a high payload. If you are using a different sized tire than that which came with the car, there are ways to determine the approximate best inflation pressure. Higher pressure means less rolling resistance, but too much will tend to cause tire wear in the center of the tread, and will reduce the actual contact patch size, which will effect grip especially on wet roads.
This is really sad - I saw an image of the bus laying on its side off the road. I could see that the ground level was below the road, but I couldn't tell how much of a drop it was.
RIP.
Didn't see them, but many of the small independent bus companies in south Texas specialize in transporting recent immigrants who don't have much in the way of id. People may have been jumping to conclusions based on the bus route.
On the other hand, all of the elderly folks burned up in the Rita evacuation were US nationals, to the best of my recollection.
From MeekOne’s link, it appears that the passengers were Vietnamese immigrants.
They were going to Carthage Missouri for Marion Days. A Catholic festival honoring The Virgin Mary. This part of Missouri has a special relationship with the Vietnamese and this is horribly sad news.
They were heading to Carthage Missouri for Marion Days Joe. Could you ping the list please? Thanks.

This is sad news and I thought you might want to ping your list.
Low volume ping list
FReepmail me to be on, or off, this list.
This bus was headed to Carthage, MO when this happened.
FYI, anyone in Carthage waiting.
Thank you, Jerk Messiah.
Thanks for the info, Artemis. Are you still with St. John's?
Dang Ben...that’s some memory you have!
I haven’t been with St. Johns for years. I’m with United Health Care giving doctors and their patients the shaft while keeping socialized medicine at bay. I like to think of it as wading through a foot of cow crap and realizing it could be TWO feet of cow crap.
How are you?
Is St. Lukes still keeping the “get out” notice in place for your customers?
I was just through there yesterday. There is a stretch when entering Sherman Proper the road narrows (still 4 lane) and makes some sharp turns on bridges while oncoming traffic is entering and the speed limit is 70mph. Much, much too fast for that kind of zig-zagging.
I feel uncomfortable their. If I feel uncomfortable going the speed limit then it must be hazardous.
Thanks for that post. Prayers up for the families of those involved.
I live less than a mile from the site it does feel a little uncomfortable through there at 70mph. I was at the site shortly after it happened. They were ferrying victims about a mile up the freeway where the helicopter landing zone was set up. They came and went continuously, one right after the other. The death toll has been updated to 14. I read one report that said the bus company had problems with its safety rating. This is less than a mile from where a truch crossed the median, killing ten in a firey crash about five years ago. I believe that driver is still in the county jail here.
I know this is not related to this story, but there was another awful crash about 45 miles north of Corpus Christi on IH 37 yesterday. A small N bound car blew a tire, crossed the median and hit a semi rig right at the fuel tank about 2:25 PM or so.
It closed the N & S bound lanes for several hours with the S bound being closed until 1115 PM. Five family members dead in the car. We saw the crash area about 7 AM today on the way to Austin.

Comment #3 wasn't based on nationality but was a possible joke that I can see as appearing in poor taste. I don't know about comment #11, though.
News is now reporting 14 dead, and I appreciate everyone's better judgment about "humor" in a thread like this.
Prayers for the victims and families.
They are all from Houston. Terrible tragedy. My condolences to the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy.
The vehicle was part of a caravan of three buses with passengers from two Houston parishes -- Vietnamese Martyrs and Our Lady of Lavang, said a Martyrs official. The bus was on its way to Carthage, Mo., for the Marian Days festival, an annual celebration in honor of the Virgin Mary.

Updated thread doesn’t look too good for the company. :(

Iguala BusMex was formed just two months ago after another bus company, operated by the same owner, was barred from making out-of-state tours after a long history of safety violations. Those two companies both list addresses on Telephone Road in Houston and are led by Angel De la Torre.
Oh, man. When it rains, it pours, huh? :(
Yep.
See my post just above, btw ...

Fred Phelps is at it against. He just said that God hates Texas for the bus accident in Sherman. I don’t know of any law that bars protesting by WBC in Texas. He plans to protest their funeral. Try pulling that crap in Texas.
