Republican mocks 'Beijing George'

*snip*

before jetting off, the President's spokesman Tony Fratto bid "Beijing George's" best wishes to the Democrats' "Drill Nothing" 110th Congress: 'We don't have plans to call Congress into session -- it won't make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote.'"

*snip*

Facing an "impossible" re-election, on July 26, 1948, the wildly unpopular and doggedly anti-communist President Harry S. Truman accepted his Democratic nomination and boldly confronted the GOP's "Do Nothing"
80th Congress:

"My duty as President requires that I use every means within my power to get the laws the people need on matters of such importance and urgency.
I am therefore calling this Congress back into session July 26th."

"Give 'em Hell Harry" got re-elected; and the "Do Nothing" 80th Congress got booted.

It seems like President Bush and Pelosi (Second in Line to the Presidency...*shudder*) are more interested in other countries then ours.

Pelosi Calls on President Bush to Secure Entry of Joey Cheek to Beijing Olympic Games

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Chinese government revoked a visa for Olympic gold medalist and Team Darfur co-founder Joey Cheek:

“The Chinese government’s decision to bar Olympic gold medalist Joey Cheek from attending the Olympics because of his advocacy for Darfur is reprehensible.  This action by Beijing’s leaders is part of an orchestrated campaign to deny entry to individuals because of their political views, beliefs, writings, association, religion, and ethnicity.

“In the coming days, President Bush will arrive in Beijing.  I call on President Bush to secure the entry of Joey Cheek and other U.S. citizens who have been barred from attending the Olympics because of their beliefs, advocacy for the people of Darfur and human rights in China and Tibet.  It is essential that President Bush show leadership in promoting democracy, freedom, and human rights during his visit to China.

“The Olympic Charter states that ‘Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on the grounds of race, religion, politics, gender, or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.’  The International Olympic Committee is tolerating clear violations of both the Olympic ideals and the commitments the Chinese government made in order to host the Olympic Games.

“Like many Americans, I recall when Joey Cheek won the Gold Medal in 2006 and donated his prize to the children of Darfur.  Joey is a magnificent athlete and an optimistic young man, and is to be commended for his advocacy and humanitarianism for the people in Darfur.   It is simply wrong for him to be banned from attending the Olympic Games.”

Like she should tell anyone else to "show leadership."

It is essential that President Bush show leadership in promoting democracy, freedom...

I’m confused, why are we complaining about Pelosi in this case? I’m personally glad she put that out.

I thought Pelosi was busy saving the world and selling her book. How did she have time to save a mere contestant to a game? She's much too overworked. Her Heinous needs to relax.

'We don't have plans to call Congress into session -- it won't make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote.'"

That's where he is wrong. It would make a difference by calling more attention to the "Drill Nothing" Congress.

Hidden deep within my post to which you replied is the inference that she is not showing proper leadership, yet bashes Bush for the same thing.

She is the Speaker of the House, yet acts like the Queen of the World.

She isn't doing her job, in fact is keeping the whole House from doing anything for us citizens she is supposed to represent.

I’m glad the President is not calling Congress back. It will allow the GOP protest to go on, and will keep this issue alive. Let the Republicans in Congress get the credit for championing the will of the American people on this issue.

That would be great if the people knew about it. Little to no coverage on CNN or MSM. So its not effective. Glad they’re doing it though and hope they keep it up and find a way for the people to find out about it.

the wildly unpopular and doggedly anti-communist President Harry S. Truman
___________________________________________________________
This makes it seem HST was unpopular because he was anti-Communist. Nothing of the sort. He was unpopular mostly because he fired MacArthur who wanted to stop the Chinese military hordes and supplies coming across the Yalu (or Yellow?) and murdering our men and that of other UN troops. MacArthur wanted to take the war to the Red Chinese. So he did it and Truman cowardly stopped him and we are left with a divided Korea, and our first no-win war.

I’m not interested in preaching to the choir. I am not concerned with whether FReepers heard about it. They are a small minotirty. I am interested in winning the American people over to conservatism. So I think its great what the Republican congreemen are doing but until it reaches CNN it means little. We have to find ways to get these points our stuff on MSM outlets like CNN.
