Retired major general to stump for Obama (Geoffrey "Shave your beard" Lambert)

Retired Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Lambert is scheduled to campaign in Fayetteville today on behalf of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Lambert is the former commanding general of the Army Special Forces Command (Airborne) and the school for Green Berets at Fort Bragg.

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: electionpresident; endorsement; fortbragg; nc2008; obama; veteransvote
Geoffrey Lambert is the General notorious for ordering Special Forces soldiers in Afghanistan to shave beards and dress more like soldiers after he saw some of his troops looking unkempt on television from Afghanistan in 2002. Yep, this is the guy who cared more about how troops looked on TV than Special Force's knowledge of how to work with locals.

Fitting. A general who flash over substance for a candidate who favors flash over substance.

Well, considering that he has “Shave your beard” Lambert and “fabulous uniform” McPeak supporting him, I think they are hoping that he will make the armed forces more metrosexual.

I think the active and retired SPEC OPS folks here on FR would agree that the Special Forces are run by Colonels and lower ranks. In particular NCOs.

I don’t mean to take anything away from General Lambert’s service, and he is entitled to his political opinions, but it is quite misleading for a General to speak for the Spec. Ops. community.

Spec Op guys are generally reviled among the traditional units. And many have renegade personalities and have a hard time fitting in to what you and i might call “normal”. These guys are trained killers. But they are also highly intelligent and highly trained craftsman. They will talk to you in your own language, tell you what a good friend they could be to you, and help you and your associates to live a better life. They will give their life for you irregardless of where you are from if you earn their loyalty.

They are also quite skillful at describing how they will kill you. And even more skillful at doing so.

The average job of a Spec Ops soldier, is to train others. What a spec op guys political theories are is not relevant to me. Accept for the fact i believe they ‘truly’ believe in what they are fighting for.

If he tells you to vote for Obama, you can laugh. If he tells you Uncle Sam said to take off your pants and run around the block......I suggest you do so...quickly.

Geoffrey “Never-mind-if-we-can’t-win-this-war-so-long-as-we-look-good-on-camera” Lambert, is that you?

Remind me again why I hated working with high-ranking Army officers, O-6 bucking for General and up. Prima donnas all.

Navy and Marine Corps O-6s and up are great to work with. U.S. Air Force types, I couldn’t care less.

Unfortunately this mentality is pervasive in the military. Officers whinnies with nothing better to do. My son is in MarSoc (Marines Spec Ops) and the last time he was in Afghanistan they had a visit by brass and had to go “high and Tight” just for the visit. Pure Bullshit for guys who are supposed to blend in with the locals.

You might as well burn your uniform and the flag with it Geoff. Stumping for Obama? You might as well go join a Shite murder squad.
