It’s even better than that. He didn’t even ask to call the Mexican Consulate. If he’d asked, he would have been allowed to. He was not denied his call.
In fact, he didn’t even bring this up until AFTER he was convicted. Nice, huh?
Good riddance. In Texas, “death” means death. Period.

If I recall correctly, one has already gotten the needle, one is scheduled to, and two others were sentenced to die but are under life sentences because they were under 18 at the time of the crime.
That’s four; I don’t know about the fifth.

his case gained attention because he (allegedly) wasn’t allowed to call the Mexican consulate.Actually it is even worse than that.
He wasn't prevented from calling the Mexican Consulate, he just wasn't told that he could.
