KANSAS CITY - Congressman Kenny Hulshof defeated state Treasurer Sarah Steelman in Tuesday's Republican primary.
Hulshof will take on Attorney General Jay Nixon in November's general election.
Hulshof received 49.2 percent of the vote to Steelman's 44.7 percent - a margin of more than 17,000 votes.

What truly upset me about this race was the way the party “elite” ganged up on Steelman. You would have thought that the MO GOP would have learned lessons from 06 but that might be too much to ask.
Another thing that made me want to bust a vein was the fact that the GOP didn’t put up a single person to run in the 44th district for the State House of Reps. The dem wins by default. The GOP here in Jackson county needs to be pulled off of life support and a new organization needs to grow in its place. They are too used to losing so no candidates or token ones are put on the ballot every so often. It makes me want to puke.
I know what you’re talking about, but I believe that was somebody else. One issue the Dems used against him in ‘06 was a deal involving a house he purchased and they also tried linking him to Mark Foley, whom he was neighbors with and held a fundraiser with (before the allegations against Foley came out).
He was never Attorney General. He served under William Webster, who was. He was in Cape Girardeau from ‘86-’89. He was in Columbia after that point (around 1990, when he ran for Boone County Prosecutor).
I second it. Not happy with her losing to Kenny but I’ll obviously vote for him. Very mad at MO Republicans.

current TV ads).
Wikipedia says he was born in Sikeston, which is close to the bootheel
(link below)
(but I don’t know if there is some technical borders to the bootheel,
so I’m not sure if Sikeston is technically in or out of “the bootheel”)
Hulshof was the rep for Missouri’s Ninth Congressional district...
which stretches from Jeff City and up to the northeast edge of MO

Funny thing is, local radio hosts here in Columbia often say “Hulshof
being from Colubmia, maybe the University of Missouri will be well
treated if he’s elected Gov.” (and Hulshof is a UM-Columbia grad).

I should’ve clarified that. Hulshof was born in the SE and represents the adjacent NE district (although the NE extends to Central MO).
Hulshof kept his cool against Steelman’s hate, and kept on putting forward persuasive arguments for a load of new ideas, including ethics reforms for state government, and ideas to encourage business. Republicans backed him because he’s the best qualified guy to run this state, and a true conservative. I think he can sell his ideas, and he will carry through on them as governor.
About his background, Hulshof grew up in the Bootheel, and has represented the Ninth congressional district which covers from Columbia, in mid-state, north and east to Hannibal and the edge of St. Louis, for 12 years. He is a hard working farmer, not a “Washington insider.”
He worked several years as a prosecutor, under Jay Nixon, so this will be an exciting contest between 2 strong contenders who know and admire each other, even though they differ politically. DO NOT MISS THE DEBATES!

40 years before that. Henry Kiel, the record-setting longest Mayor (1913-1925), a Republican. They named buildings for him. Had the Depression not occurred, he would’ve won his election to the Senate. I believe he had the largest turnout for the public funeral during WW2 in city history. During his time as Mayor, STL was the fifth largest city in the country with just under 1 million people. Today, it now has 1/3rd that number after 60 years of Democrat rule.
Claire has in some ways been a pleasant surprise to me, too. Looking at her voting record, though, she is a dyed in the wool liberal. The National Taxpayers Union gives her a D with a 17% rating and the American Conservative Union gives her an 8% rating.

It’s a symptom of many rodent cities where there’s been one-party rule for decades, huge numbers emptying out, rot and decline, heavy criminal element. Yup, the rodents turned these places into Socialist utopias alright.
It’s quite possible that Blunt thought that he was a goner and feared that his candidacy could damage other Republican candidates.
Sarah Steelman made a credible showing and will be heard from again if she still wants to seek public office. Who knows? Maybe Kit Bond will retire.
I knew they already had the presidential primary but why would they have two primary elections? Was it perhaps a caucus?
