If I were the Governor of Texas, I'd be tempted to give this POS a 24 hour reprieve just before they stick the needle in. Then repeat the process every day for the next two weeks or so.

LOL, yeah, and install a big window between the "holding cell" and the execution chamber.

Nahhh.... Let's just get rid of him.

I’m thinking Souter, Ginsberg, Breyer, Stevens vs Alito, Thomas, Scalia, Kennedy, Roberts.

I like what they do in Japan. One day... they just come in and take you out for execution.

Can anyone remember the last time Souter voted with the conservatives? In fact, has he EVER?

I’m surprised the dems didn’t turn off the power.

Japan is a great country. I lived there for 14 years and got all my kids through elementary school, two of the three though junior high. I can honestly say that their history books were more pro-American than anything they got in the U.S.

You are right about how they handle capital punishment. The ministry of justice usually makes the announcement the day after the hangings. Sometimes, they don't even announce the names of the perps. The next of kin are notified after the fact when they are asked to come and claim the belongings and the corpse. Some of them choose to contact the media (and the Ministry of Justice will confirm), quite a few do not because the Japanese still have a strong sense of shame and responsibility.

Yes, some of them go too far with the sense of shame and responsibility. There are cases of next of kin of notorious killers committing suicide even though they had nothing to do with the crime other than blood relations to the criminal. But contrast that sense of shame to what you find in the US (next of kin suing or running to the ACLU) and it is actually refreshing to see a society which still values shame and guilt.

5-4 is too close for me. Do the “Justices” who voted for a stay for this monster really value justice? I think they love endless “procedure,” like most liberals, and can no longer distinguish a difference between the two.
