No-Drill Stand Is A Dry Hole For Democrats
IBD Editorials ^ | August 4, 2008 | Larry Kudlow

Posted on 08/04/2008 6:25:41 PM PDT by Kaslin

As John McCain and the GOP leaders nationalize the drill, drill, drill message, the Republican Party might conceivably be riding a summer political rally.

The question of offshore drilling, along with expanded domestic energy production, has suddenly become the biggest political and economic wedge issue of this election. Is there a Republican tsunami in the making?

According to the major polls, Sen. McCain has overcome a big deficit to pull even with Obama. Meanwhile, according to a Rasmussen survey, Democratic Party identification has slumped.

As Republicans on the House floor shouted "vote, vote, vote" and "lower gas prices," the Democratic majority turned off the lights, cameras and microphones. Determined GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell offered unanimous-consent requests to vote on lifting the ban on deep-water exploration, and the Democrats objected. When McConnell asked Democrats if they'd overturn the ban at $4.50 a gallon, they replied "no." When he raised the price to $5, $7 and $10, they cried "no," "no" and "no."

On the Stephanopoulos Sunday news show, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi underscored her refusal to allow a drilling vote. Asked about the Republican rebellion in the House, she said, "What you saw in the Congress this week was the war dance of the handmaidens of the oil companies."

The democrats are way out of touch with the people on this. They will fight this tooth and nail but you watch if Barry wins they might change their mind but make it seem like it was their idea and the media will of course support them in this.

Actually he needs to have someone make up little models of the VW with a sail and hand those out, or give them out to people who donate money to his campaign. The words “Democrat energy policy” could be printed on the sail.

As John McCain and the GOP leaders nationalize the drill, drill, drill message, the Republican Party might conceivably be riding a summer political rally.

I think that republicans stand a very good chance of gaining seats in both the house and the senate. In fact, if they play their cards right, they can regain control of both houses of congress.

What republicans need, is a 1994 "Contract With America" type campaign.

The primary points for the fall platform for the republicans should be:

-energy independence within 5 to 10 years.
-immediate relief from high energy prices by allowing oil drilling and allowing other forms of energy to be explored, including nuclear power plants, shale oil, coal, and whatever else is feasible.
-continuation of the Bush tax cuts
-additional tax cuts

I'm pretty sure that there are many other points that we can include on a fall platform that would help republicans get back control of the people's congress.

But, the most important point to get across is that whatever is mentioned on the platform, that republicans would promise not to veer from them for at least 10 years, in which time, hopefully, their platform promises might have come to fruition.

Now that Nobama has changed his view (sort of) on offshore drilling, McCain needs to do something dramatic on energy. He needs to reverse his position on ANWR, and he needs to do it before Nobama beats him to it.

Those are very good ones.

I'm pretty sure there are many more, including conservative judges.

Perhaps we need to create that platform, "The 2008 Republican Contract With America". We can then just forward it to the republican leadership for their approval and endorsement.

Before we all get to giddy her about this “Drill, drill, drill” business, the Repubs need to follow this up with a unified well thought out and simple to explain Energy Policy.

And then need to have something cobbled together by Labor Day so that when everyone is home from vacation, the Repubs can present their Unified plan to folks who will now pay attention to politics.

There must be unanimous support from all the Repubs on this issue. And with this plan can come the opportunity for jobs not only in the energy sector, but all sectors of the economy as well as the promise of increased security from foreign oil threats to our economy.

Those three points could go a long way to garnering many undecided voters and maybe some dems.

I think hispanderers have hijacked RNC headquarters. But we could work around them. Borders is worth the ‘alien’ation— a big issue. “Patriots’ Contract With America.” We could include Tancredo, Bob Barr [possibly], and maybe even a few blue dogs like Gene Taylor. Just a thought. It’s your baby.

Even the Berlin Wall fell. Given enough pressure, anything will fail. And SanFranNan will crack under the building pressure to drill. She’d better think real hard about what she’s about to put this country through if she doesn’t allow a vote to drill. If she holds fast and hard, there will be riots to get it through her thick skull to change her stance. Everyone knows this is a no-win situation for 9%Nan. Question is, will she show us all just how arrogant she truly is? If she does, the dims will lose big this year and may never recover. So the ball is still in her court. What will she do? What will she do?

“end of the era of oil”

Didn’t he also recently say he was open to drilling? Drilling what!!

I’ve noticed that Alan Colmes has a daily question -

Why is it okay for McCain to change his mind, but obama is called a flip-flopper?

Answer for you Alan: McCain admits he was wrong, or new info comes to light. However, obama holds entirely different positions at the same time and flip-flops depending on who his audience is.

Then he says something along the lines of, “I’ve been saying this all along” or “this has always been my position.”

This election may be a case study in political turnarounds. The Republicans looked broken with no issues and now after their stand on energy, polls are seriously shifting in their favor.

The Republicans can come up with a bold, easy to understand energy policy. The Democrats will respond with a 5000 page document that will be all about taxes, rationing, funding for perpetual motion machines, etc. - it will read like an old Soviet five year plan - “comrades, there will be a tractor in every collective farm and Heroes of Soviet Labor will get a medal and new shoes!”

Demonrats are against any independence. All it takes is for the Republicans to spotlight the Demonrat ‘leaders’ and the fact that it is nothing but an election ploy for any candidates of that party to claim they are ‘moderates’ because all the power rests with the Pelosi-Reids. It needs to be spotlighted they would only enable more of the insanity and the judges they put in need to be highlighted(terrorist rights, child molestor and murderer rights). These people will do irreparable harm and it’s time the GOP fight back. This absurdity with not dealing with the oil crisis which is causing harm with its affects needs to be taken advantage of and brought down on the Demonrats.

They are all enablers. In fact, I am saying there really is no such thing as a ‘moderate’ Demonrat. They are a threat with judges alone and they have ALWAYS enabled the Pelosi-Reid. They will play that way because they HAVE to to even get elected from those areas. They are part of the problem and voting for them is continuing the problems we are facing.

It's almost as idiotic as Harry Reid's droll spiel: “Coal makes us sick. Oil makes us sick.” I laughed until my sides hurt!

These fools are still using the “10 year” mantra (when new oil would be available). According to all of the energy experts interviewed on FOX, and some I know personally, that figure is at least 5 to 10 years old. New technology could make new oil available in 2 to 5 years, depending on the existing infrastructure in the various areas.
