Could His Oil Policy Cost Obama the Election?

People are mighty miffed at the price of gasoline and my favorite presidential candidate, Sen. Obama, does not seem to be offering much. Yes, he talks about a grand “go to the moon” scheme of “alternative energy” development a la Kennedy and like Mitt Romney. But he’s tied to orthodox Democratic objections to more drilling and to nuclear power, both of which people sense are needed.

More important, Obama has not brought his own more progressive thoughts into a clear focus that people can understand as meaningful. It’s not just about “alternative energy”. It’s about how you cut the cost per mile of driving. That means plug in hybrid electrics or something else that actually makes a car go. Obama is not there.

I just wonder if ol’ Dr. McCain might not have a more voter-friendly policy. Not that they both might not end up actually doing about the same things. But elections are about perceptions, not reality, as we know so well from the last two.

Energy could cost the Democrat party a lot more that the shot at the Presidency if the GOP would get it's act together. Why doesn't House and Senate Republicans get together for a Drill Here Drill Now rally? Generate buzz keep the ball rolling. Get John Rich to play his new song Raisin' McCain. Quit navel gazing through the media and just control the message and keep it clear. We've did it before we can do it again.

His mouth will cost him the election. Oil policy is only a part of that.

It’s not going to cost them anything unless the GOP does a better job of pushing this issue. They need to be on TV seven days a week attacking the Dems for causing this problem, and blaming the Dems for the resulting slow economy.

Agreed, why assume one issue is “costing” Obama the election? I will not vote for any radical left wing democrats, oil is one issue of many.

McCain needs to come out and tell the people that Obama is full of it. He needs to start getting tough with this idiot and show him for what he is.........a liar. Obama said that Kennedy said we can go to the moon. Our countries engineers told Kennedy”We can do it.”....not the other way around.

Correct, but this issue resonates with the voters!

You just don't get it.

After the Obamessiah is elected, you won't have to put gasoline in your tank. All you will have to do is get in your car, close your eyes, and say, "in the name of the Obama, the Michelle and the Algore, 'renewables'" and your car will run without gas. Call it the Miracle of the Wind and the Solar.

McCain has done everything he can to help Obama win the election, but that may not be enough. The empty suit is starting to collapse.

I have suspected for some time that there is much more to this issue than we may think. The socialist/sellouts in Washington who refuse to allow the use of our oil reserves are into something much deeper than a loyalty to the environment. That,I believe, is a smokescreen. Our oil reserves may have been reserved for use by another people, another nation power. Many of our elected representatives have been bought and paid for by foreign interests, and they have no intention of letting Americans consume this energy prize. The Saudis perhaps? China has been gobbling-up mineral and energy interests around the world ie. Congo.

The complacency of the leader in the polls is often the downfall in the end. There is undoubtedly a reservoir of love and compassion for the ever-popular, handsome and debonair Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic Negro. There is a possibility that the reservoir is perhaps not as large as first imagined, reflecting support “a mile wide, and an inch deep”.

After the first flush of well-wishing and projection of all wishes upon what was once a blank canvas, it becomes apparent that the “blank canvas” was not all that blank, that there are deeply etched colors and texture gradients there that may never be bleached out.

Wean ourselves off oil altogether within our lifetimes? Sorry, but the human race is going to be depending on carbon-based fuel for generations, well into the infinite future. Oil is easily transported, responds well to various chemical modifications, and is highly flexible in applications. Extracting the energy from oil, to power our industries and provide a comfortable environment in our homes, is perhaps the highest and best use to which this resource may be put for the present. We certainly could change to an alternative, be it coal or the most volatile of hydrocarbons, natural gas. The infrastructure, and the will to make the change, are what may be lacking for the present.

Don’t throw so many obstacles in the way if you want us to stop using oil, like relaxing the intensive regulation and court challenges of any use of nuclear power. The last new nuclear plant went into operation in this country over a quarter century ago. With the technological advances in using the energy output of atomic reactions, it is vastly safer today to construct a safe and reliable atomic electrical generation plants, and replicating the design until we have a full network of nuclear plants to support the entire US power grid.
