Kanzius says 'no' to UPMC (Cancer Killing Machine)

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center made John Kanzius an offer he did refuse. Kanzius met earlier this month with top administrators from the Pittsburgh health-care system. They told him they wanted to fund all cancer research for his external radio-wave generator. In return, UPMC would have owned the project's intellectual property rights for cancer treatment. Kanzius thought about it for a day. "I told them no," Kanzius said Tuesday, the first time he has spoken publicly about the UPMC offer. "They said they would invest millions of dollars in it, but my question is, do I want a single entity running the show, or do I want to continue going about it the way we have been?" Researchers at UPMC and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston are conducting experiments with the device, which kills cancerous tumors in live animals. It sends high-powered radio waves into the body, heating cells targeted with nanoparticles, tiny pieces of gold or carbon, while leaving untargeted cells alone. Kanzius has been working to secure funds for the project. Steven Curley, M.D., principal investigator for the device at M.D. Anderson, has said it would cost about $10 million to fund the work needed to take it to human trials. UPMC offered to cover all costs through human trials, Kanzius said. A UPMC spokeswoman confirmed that the medical center had talks with Kanzius, but would not elaborate. Kanzius said the partnership discussions are finished. "I'm just not ready to share it right now," Kanzius said. "Especially with a managing partner." ...

Absolutely smart Move....

As someone who lives in Pittsburgh, I would not trust UPMC with this IP... a university or the fed needs to step up and fund this, so it will be available to all and not be a treatment that equals royalty payments to UPMC for anyone who wants it, and outside the cost of folks.

Sorry, but I’ve seen UPMC destroy too many good things here in their quest for world domination.

I wish Bill Gates would toss $10M to him, no strings attached. Unfortunately, Gates is more likely to funnel hundreds of millions to Africa. God only knows why.

Agreed. Some academic cabal sitting on this thing - if it pans out - will bugger it up for sure. I have seen similar things (non-medical products) mishandled and become political footballs to the loss and detriment of all. Seems to me a ‘for profit’ consortium would deliver the product most economically and - ultimately - the most widely.

There should be plenty of investors in the Venture Capital world who would front the money for a piece, but not a managing partner piece, of the action.

Look up ye old Rife machine. Kamzius has made a better version

The only thing UPMC has ever done for me is to save my life a few times. They are well run, ambitious, and motivated. Maybe they are just mean to other people.

The technology works. It’s documented. It has only to be human tested and approved by the government’s FDA. This device could have major, major implications for cancer treatments all across the board.................

My instincts say it was a very smart move. I don't know anything about UPMC, but I do know that I would not trust Ed Rendell as far as I could throw him. That would not be very far because I am a small woman and he is a big man.

You haven’t been paying attention then.

I never said they had bad doctors, I said they destroy things they touch as a corporation.

I’m sure Dr. Mengala saved a few lives in his day as well, doesn’t mean the NAZI party was a saving grace.

So what if he is? This will be found out if true
Much of modern medicine is a fraud
You know how many patients die from hospital caused infections each year?

How many unneeded procedures are done each year just to line doctors (and others) pockets

Absolutely. Why give Pitt a monoply on perhaps the most important breakthrough in a generation.

The more diverse parties doing the research the quicker it will mature.

It must be pretty evident from the preliminary animal tests that it is substantial in it’s human possibilities, else UPMC would not have made the offer in the first place. The other place, Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, is also testing the device. Somebody in the world, Gates, Buffet, Bloomberg, etc. should just write a check...................

I don’t think fast eddie has gotten his filthy paws on UPMC-at least I hope not. UPMC was where Salk developed the polio vaccine, and Starzl did some of his greatest work.

I saw a piece on him during which he demonstrated the machine and discussed its implications. Pretty convincing argument and I believe (someone confirm?) that he used it on his own cancer.

I just had another thought. I am an instructor at a community college and I often tell my Biology students when I talk to them about the scientific method that we would like to think all scientists are objective, but that is not the case. Their research can be interpreted in ways that are most advantageous to them. For instance, I am sure there are many scientists who do not believe the Global Warming propaganda, but their funding depends on those who do.

To Mr. K, this machine absolutely works as was demonstrated recently on 60 Minutes. You may still be able to find the transcript on the CBS website. John Kanzius is a brilliant man who seems to genuinely want to do the right thing, not just for himself, but for others, and I would trust his instincts.

Darn right I did. Furthermore I’m familiar with Rife which is what Kansiuz machine is based on

Kanzius therapy probably kills some cancers but not all.

From the article:

Gov. Ed Rendell hasn't ruled out securing state funding for Kanzius' device, though he was disappointed to learn no deal was made with UPMC, said Rendell spokesman Chuck Ardo.

In my state, the governor's recommendations would carry much weight with our university system, especially since the president of the system is a former Clinton aid and the son of a former "good old boy" Democratic governor.

Here is a worthy proven product seeking funding ... lots of interest ... no Angles so far. The Uniservice BedTM is an innovation that helps to provide a spectrum of medical and hygienic services to an immobile person without disturbing, moving, or lifting the patient. The bed facilitates a full range of services with a minimum physical effort on the part of the care provider. A full-scale working prototype demonstrates some of the features and advantages of the patented design: The linen can be changed without disturbing, lifting, or turning the patient in the bed. Showering and bathing facilities are available without moving the patient. A movable, resizable zero-pressure area in the mattress can prevent or treat bedsores (pending clinical trials). A conveniently shaped toilet/bidet in the bed provides an alternative to bedpans -- without moving the patient. The bed can be used in private homes as well as in medical and long-term care facilities. Experts see advantages of the bed in a variety of specialty fields such as orthopedics, burn care, geriatrics, etc.

I am sure there are many scientists who do not believe the Global Warming propaganda, but their funding depends on those who do.

Based on news today it appears the Anthrax murders in 2001 were the result of a scientist wanting to win more funding in his specialty, and his ploy worked. Scientists have completely become an arm of the Democrat Mafia.

the funny thing is UPMC may be more powerful than “fast eddie”, or should I say “dirty eddie”. UPMC while being somewhat “low profile” is extremly powerful, and while they probably aren’t as powerful as rendell, it’s not likely that he could “force” them to do anything.

Mmmmm. How to get Bill Gates to write the check..?

If I understand the basic science right, microwaves are used to heat up nanoparticles and the heat kills the cells they were delivered to - any cells they were delivered to.

Gates is a big AIDS research funder - AIDS is a virus of some sort ... with a cellular structure that could be attacked by the same delivery process, with refined targeting.

The Delivery Process is what the big hangup is, I think. How to deliver the nanoparticles only to the cells identified for destruction.

Tell Gates that there is a cure for AIDS and it exists now - we just need to figure out how to deliver it to the AIDS viral cells. Watch how fast he causes funding to flow into refining the Delivery Process.

Family members in medicine tell me that buyers for hospital beds in their facilities are looking for beds to accomodate patients in the 750 lb. range. Medicine is apparently gearing up for the wave of obese boomers and the ADA regulations that attend their ‘needs.’

Very true. I work as a tech in our ICU unit. About half of our patients are in the obese range - no, not overweight - obese. I see more and more 350+ patients.

We get special beds that are supposed to reduce the liklihood of bed sores because these folks can't be turned on their sides. Their weight makes them fall back down on their backs, where most of the sores occur.

Some of the special beds have air type mattresses and some actually move back and forth to give the patient some sort of movement. Even so, with the special beds, we still see skin breakdown, because you just can't get an intubated patient up out of bed to get them off their backs.
