RICHMOND, Va. - U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia has been asked for "personal documents" by John McCain's campaign, a Republican knowledgeable with the discussions said Saturday.
Cantor, 45, the chief deputy minority whip in the House, has been mentioned among several Republicans as a possible running mate for McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
The Republican familiar with the conversations between Cantor and the McCain campaign said Cantor has been asked to turn over documents, but did not know specifically what records were sought.

Jewish Congressman from Virginia. Attorney. In office since 2001. Strong on Israel/Defense... otherwise no idea. No way he
‘ll be McCain’s veep. A mere Congressman doesn’t cut it (except Hunter maybe). McCain needs a Governor or someone else from the Executive. Also what does Kantor add for McCain? McCain does already well with Jewish voters, so what benefit would Kantor bring in the general?
Ack! Typo: Kantor = Cantor
Eric Cantor is a fourth-term congressman representing the Seventh District of Virginia. He recently won re-election to Congress in November 2006.
In December 2002 Eric was selected to serve as Chief Deputy Majority Whip, the highest appointed position in the House Representatives. As Chief Deputy Whip, Eric has a seat at the House Republican Leadership table.
Eric holds a seat on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which has direct jurisdiction over taxes, trade, Social Security, Medicare, prescription drugs for seniors, health care and welfare reform.
He also serves as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare. The task force is composed of Members of Congress who study the threat of international terrorism on the United States and develop policy proposals and legislative recommendations regarding the fight against terrorism.
Eric Cantor is a lifelong resident of the Richmond area. He got his start in politics as a student at George Washington University by interning for Congressman Tom Bliley in Blileys Washington office and serving as a driver on Blileys first re-election campaign. Eric received his law degree from The College of William and Mary and his Masters degree from Columbia University in New York.
While in New York, Eric met his wife Diana and brought her back to Virginia where they are currently raising three children, Evan, Jenna and Michael, who attend Henrico County Public Schools.

He’s got to be a social liberal - just my guess. I’d love to know his stand on ILLEGAL immigration and environMENTALISM.
He is 100% pro-life.
He doesn’t appear to be a motivated guy. Look at the date on this (FEATURED) on his website - 2007

Cantor Introduces
Middle Class Jobs Protection Act
WASHINGTON, DC - Republican Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA), was joined today by Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX.), Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX), Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN), and Congressman John Campbell (R-CA) to discuss the need to grow the U.S. economy to help promote middle class job opportunities. The group introduced Cantor’s Middle Class Job Protection Act today at a press conference in the U.S. Capitol. Congressman Cantor released the following statement:
“Given the current economic uncertainty and the real fears American families have, it is time for all of us in Congress to come together to make Washington work for the American people again, not the other way around.
“Today, I am introducing The Middle Class Jobs Protection Act which will help to provide the tools and incentives necessary for a more certain economic future for millions of American families.
“While healthcare costs skyrocket, tuition escalates and the housing market continues to spiral downward, this bill will help to ensure the continued expansion of our economy and the creation of good jobs for the American people.
“Job growth - not increased government spending is the key to addressing the slowdown in investment due to the housing crisis.” A renewed investment outlook will result in job protection for America’s families, while allowing America to continue leading globally,” concluded Cantor.
THE MIDDLE CLASS JOBS PROTECTION ACT WILL:
1) Slash the corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%, encouraging businesses to create jobs.
2) Provide for a 50% bonus depreciation for 2008 and 2009.
3) Allow for section 179 expensing for ‘08-’09 of up to $250,000 for purchases up to a $1 M
4) Allow a 5 year carry back of Net Operating Loss.
5) Allow for extension of carry back period for Business Tax Credits for 3 years.

I like him better than mccain.
He is a VERY STRONG conservative and is loved in his VERY CONSERVATIVE district (which incidentally has a lot of Evangelical Christians and very few Jews).
He makes Mitt look like a social lib. Well, actually thats not hard. Anyway, looks like he was for border security before it became into GOP fashion.
He does not sell out side of Va, but he to the Right of McCain.
Mitt is more big name though.
John Kasich or Tom Ridge would be better picks.
Cantor is too inexperienced.
Jindal/Cantor 2012 or 2016?
Voted YES on $9.7B for Amtrak improvements and operation thru 2013. (Jun 2008)
TOTALLY IDIOTIC! Amtrack needs to be sold off or shut down.

I don’t see Cantor helping in Ohio Michigan or Penna.
Sounds like a diversion to me. My guess is they’d really like Obama to pick Kaine of Virginia.
.Forget all of that and support Michael Steele.
There is a guy with brains and enthusiasm.
Cutting taxes is “unimpressive” to you? Huh?
With McCain’s age a factor, he shouldn’t be looking at someone who the electorate doesn’t know and hasn’t already demonstrated through primaries or something that he could take over if necessary.
McCain doesn’t need a VP who might be a drag on his ticket.
http://www.ericcantorforvp.com/index.php
He's someone I could get behind, but a 6 year Congressman as Veep to a Senator... dunno... nah.
IMHO, Rep. Cantor is not a good choice simply because he’s just another Washington insider.
McCain needs somebody with executive experience that has not been in Washington the last 10+ years.
a pick like this one says to me IMO, McCain is doing everything he can NOT to win. Why do we keep hearing about such stupid people beting Vetted. Eeeish
Michael Steele would be a HUGE Plus.
I still wonder if no one wants the job. Can’t say i blame them I guess.
I like Steele a lot- but honestly- I don’t believe he’s got enough elected time under his belt to be a credible VP candidate yet.
I don’t have a personal favorite at this point- I only hope he doesn’t choose Crist or Huckabee. I don’t think Kasich would be a wise choice either.
100 rating by the ACU for 2007.
ILLEGAL immigration:
Voted YES on building a fence along the Mexican border. (Sep 2006)
Yeah and two years later it's still NOT up!
YAWWNNN.
Voted YES on preventing tipping off Mexicans about Minuteman Project. (Jun 2006)
Voted NO on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment. (May 2004)
Yes, protect ILLEGALS and have US pay for it.
Voted YES on extending Immigrant Residency rules. (May 2001)

Rated 92% by USBC, indicating a sealed-border stance. (Dec 2006)

Some quotes by him on this:
Voted NO on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment.
Vote to pass the bill that would require hospitals to gather and report information on possible illegal aliens before hospitals can be reimbursed for treating them. The bill would also make employers liable for the reimbursements if an undocumented employee seeks medical attention, unless the employer meets particular conditions for exemption. The bill would specify that hospitals aren't required to provide care to undocumented aliens if they can be transported to their home country without a significant chance of worsening their condition.

He's just like McPain only LESS experienced. He has no proven track record other than another career political hack that gets nothing done.
He's HOTT, that's right, so hot he gets an extra T...
This isn't even a good picture.
You must have been reading my mind. ;)
Eric Cantor has one of the highest ACU ratings of all House members, at 96%, so he will balance out McCain’s leftward lean.
He’s a light weight that has no accomplishment.
I remain unimpressed. HE cannot point to ANYTHING that he did as a “success”.
Cantor is not experienced enough and adds nothing to the ticket. Imho, could be false info meant to intentionally confuse.
HOT?
What’s so “hot” about him?
His record leaves me very COLD.
I didn’t say different. He has all the right stances on the issues, but I agree: A fresh Congressman is not Veep material.
Wow.
In the most shallow of ways.
Cantor or Cox would bring a decided intellectual bent to the ticket. If McCain is going into the second tier candidates, Cantor’s brain power would make him an excellent choice. Also very personable and can think on his feet.
If you want someone from the House, Pence, Cox, or Portman would be better.
He looks like a male version of Sarah Palin.
Not guilty!
Why not Hillary then? Her proven track record is more ‘conservative’ than Romney’s since her socialist health care plan didn’t actually pass. His did.
Kasich’s a squish.
