The political and military group's senior commander in southern Lebanon said in a rare interview that Hizbollah was far stronger now than when it fought the Israeli army in a conflict in 2006.
Sheikh Nabil Kaouk, who leads Hizbollah's forces on Lebanon's border with Israel - the crucial battlefront of any future war, was speaking in the port city of Tyre. "The resistance is now stronger than before and this keeps the option of war awake. If we were weak, Israel would not hesitate to start another war," he said. "We are stronger than before and when Hizbollah is strong, our strength stops Israel from starting a new war... We don't seek war, but we must be ready."

Did anyone actually expect that Israel’s failures to annihilate Hizbullah coupled with the protection zone established in southern Lebanon (which allowed Hizbullah to rebuild and re-arm) could come out any other way?
Now Hizbullah has more power in Lebanon’s govt. than ever before AND a growing domination of southern Lebanon and Beirut that surpasses their best previous efforts.
I detest olmert, but he had plenty of help.

I had a couple of JDL types in one of my ARNG units, but by now they probably couldn’t carry a pack or run. Try recruiting in Crown Heights Brooklyn for your volunteer Brigade, I’m sure there may be many there that would jump at the chance to join you if hostilities broke out. I love the threats from Amanutjob that if hostilities break out they will cause destruction to us all over the world. What like the Israelis or the USA are going to let them get away with that?
Hezbollah before had managed to pull some fast ones because Israeli military intelligence had dropped the ball. However, that MI chief was fired shortly after, and his replacement is under strict orders to insure that Hezbollah does nothing that the IDF doesn’t know about.
When Hezbollah attacks, I suspect that they are going to be very, very shocked when Israel doesn’t do what it did before and send troops into Lebanon to be ambushed. Instead, Israel should do what it didn’t do before and fire its own rockets back at Hezbollah.
Rockets that are a heck of a lot more powerful and accurate than anything Hezbollah has. Rockets that will leave deep craters where Hezbollah positions used to be. Perhaps 1/2 to one ton warheads.
When that has finished, all Hezbollah territory in Lebanon should look as cratered as the surface of the Moon.
If Israel asks nice, maybe the US could even provide a good old fashioned B-52 Arc Light type strikes to turn hillsides into farmland.
Enough with playing nice with an enemy that keeps getting stronger when slapped. Israel should obliterate Hezbollah. No more mister nice guy.

It pain me to say it, but Hezbollah are a seriously effective [terrorist] paramilitary group. So yes, I dare say they are well aware of Israel’s power.
Guess Israel should have kicked hell out of these murderers in South Lebanon last go around instead of playing Olmerts appeasement b.s. game.

I have come to believe that Hezbollah has been laid aside because when Iran is destroyed, the Hezzies will cease to be a threat. The strategy could be like the US Navy island hopping campaign in the Pacific.
There are lots of islands but many can be ignored and isolated. Hamas is also a skipped island.
The final objectve and mortal threat is Qum and Teheran.
Given the fact that Israel will have air supremacy in any fight with Hezbollah, they can build (and by now should have built) their own ersatz "B-52s" by converting some wide bodied cargo aircraft into bomb carriers. Of course, they need to give the "innocent civilians" a reasonable amount of time (48 hours) to drag their arses across the Litani River "before the bombing starts".

They may be biting off more than they can chew, even if the Lebanese Army stands behind them.
I don’t believe the Litani River is as much a diving line as it used to be, and I would also note that the Hezbollah probably try to use the Shiite civilians of their area as human shields as much as possible.
It is a disgusting characteristic of Muslims that they see a massacre of innocents instead of their fighters as a victory, if just as a propaganda victory.
