Saudi Arabia's religious police have announced a ban on selling cats and dogs as pets, or walking them in public in the Saudi capital, because of men using them as a means of making passes at women, an official said on Wednesday.
Othman al-Othman, head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Riyadh, known as the Muttawa, told the Saudi edition of al-Hayat daily that the commission has started enforcing an old religious edict.
He said the commission was implementing a decision taken a month ago by the acting governor of the capital, Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz, adding that it follows an old edict issued by the supreme council of Saudi scholars.
The reason behind reinforcing the edict now was a rising fashion among some men using pets in public "to make passes on women and disturb families," he said, without giving more details.

This is an opportunity for those speed seduction web sites. They need to open a special section for Saudi guys that is Koranically compliant but still gets the chicks.
And Saudi chicks must have given the doggie gambit some success, or Saudi guys would not have kept at it, leading to its banishment by the virtue police.

The only problem is that most girls go ga-ga over the little frou-frou lap dogs, so that a guy can't get a manly kind of dog like a Chessie.
Of course, I go ga-ga over Chessies, and Labs, and Boykins, but I work retrievers and I've been married for 31 years . . . .

I was eating lunch in a restaurant when an elderly man carrying a tiny Yorkshire Terrier strolled by the window. He was constantly being stopped by beautiful young women who cooed over the little dog.
My sister and I went outside to talk to him. He was 83 years old and told me he’d met more women in the six months since he bought the dog than he had in the previous 60 years!
I own an English Pointer and an English Springer Spaniel. I’d love to get a Boykin and adore Chessies! But then I subscribe to Gun Dog magazine, Astronomy magazine, and Traditional Home magazine. Not exactly a normal thing for women to do. LOL!

I say koranimals are evil and should never be held as pets.
My Siberian Husky would have fought to his death to protect me or one of my family members and a day hasn’t passed since we had to put him to sleep that I haven’t thought of him and missed him. The muslims hatred for dogs is offensive to me. It’s almost as bad as those that hate kids. I can understand people not wanting to have pets because of how much work they are. Hating them though, what the hell for?
My younger dog apparently started out as a Great Dane/Black Lab cross, but grew up to be an 85 lb. Black Lab/Pit cross. Sweetest dog in the world.

Jake was also a large animal. He got up to 120 lbs at 18 months when the vet suggested backing off his chow some. He lived his brief life at 90-95 lbs and didn’t look heavy at all.

They do seem to have a sense about people. My husky was so smart that he knew the difference between someone who was a threat and someone who wasn’t. To those who were no threat, he was a big, playful teddy bear towards. Anybody ever just walk into our house that he didn’t know, they had better run fast out the door.

Their history shows that they move in until their numbers are large enough that they can impose their values on the host nation. This doesn’t require being in the majority in a place like the U.S.
It takes one law suit or the threat of one.
That's because dogs are more sensitive to demonic spirits than men and will bark at them.
As someone who today had to put down my 13 year old beagle. I can’t say publicly on this site what I think of the Koran.
Seriously, dogs have always been thought of as more sensitive to the supernatural.
I think one reason that the "dogs are to be killed" in the Koran is that it is satanically inspired. So, kill the watchdogs against supernatural influence, namely dogs.
I used to ride a horse, an ex-racing Quarter Horse, that LOVED beer. He would stick his head out the stall door and whinny if he smelled any (and he could apparently smell it at 50 yards, with the cap still on the bottle).
I asked my vet if it would do him any harm to give him some. When she stopped laughing, she said as long as we didn't set him so drunk that he fell over, it was probably good for his digestion.
So we would wrap a leg bandage or a towel around the neck of the bottle and tip it on up, and Mister would glug a couple of glugs and it was gone!
No Animal Control shelters and almost no rescue orgs (except those dedicated to the breed) will admit to any Pit or AmStaff in their dogs.
I've known some sweet Pits, and some really mean Labs and even a mean Golden (I know it's rare, but it happens).
Nothing I could say will be much comfort, but you have all my sympathy. It's hard to part with them.
I've got two crazy Labs. Would love to have a Chessie but it would have to be the right one. They can be great dogs for an amateur, or they can be Way Too Much Dog, depending on the bloodline and the pup.

We hired a car and driver to show us the sights of Mexico City many years ago. He stopped at a market the featured a beer driking mule. For 4 Pesos, I set the opened beer bottle on the ground in front of the mule. He picked it up and drained it and would do it over and over...

Mohamed was a just a cat person (an unfortunate tid-bit that has come down through history and bears no reflection on cat people in general - really).

I think that's what happened to me. The Scott County, KY, Humane Society got this really sweet black and white puppy with BIG paws and decided to foster him and adopt him out. They probably suspected he was part Pit but thought he might be part Dane instead and represented him as being part Dane. My problem is he gave his all to me and turned out to be a totally sweet dog by the time it became obvious he was a Pitador instead of a Daneador. Given what a wonderful character he was and is, I couldn't very well destroy his whole life just because of some human error. Now my big problem is keeping him from pushing me out of bed at night.
So what’s the big deal. Just have the religeous police lop off a few heads (of the owner’s, naturally). That will definately stop the practice and give their government a chance to practice what they like to do. MORONS.
A friend of mine has a nice field Lab who is a regular Casanova. Nothing will keep him from the ladies - he goes out windows, over 8 foot fences, etc. etc. There are an awful lot of puppies in the neighborhood who look just like him . . . fortunately he's a good looking dog with a terrific temperament.
One of the downsides of the Danes is that they don't live long at all.
I was looking for a Danedor instead of a Dane because I felt the Lab might help extend a great dog’s life span. Please let me know if your neighborhood Romeo finds himself a Dane Juliet. OMG, my Pitador, who’s under the desk, has just farted!
