WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A biopsy conducted on skin taken from the face of U.S. Republican presidential candidate John McCain showed no skin cancer, medical authorities said on Tuesday.
McCain, who has suffered from skin cancer in the past, had a spot removed from his face during a routine checkup in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Monday and had it checked to ensure it was not cancerous.
"The biopsy that was performed did not show any evidence of skin cancer," said Michael Yardley, a spokesman for the Mayo Clinic. "No further treatment is necessary."
The spot, visible on the Arizona senator's face and not covered by a bandage, appeared to be about the size of a small coin.

Even if it was cancer basal cell carcinoma of the skin has something like a 99%+ cure rate and only those with a compromised immune system would be at risk of it spreading, which would take many many years of ignoring warning signs.
There are some people here on FR that are really disappointed. They were hoping it would be cancer, so that they could try to kick him off the ticket.
I guess they haven’t thought far enough as to whom to replace him, so we could possibly get Ron Paul or the Huckster and lose 49 states and the District of Columbia.
McCain has had multiple melanomas removed over the years; he’s at enhanced risk for recurrence. I’m glad he’s healthy, but I’d sure love to see him decide to withdraw from the race to make sure :)
It wouldn't be Paul. Might be the Huckster, which would be too bad. I think Romney or someone else would be more likely though.
I'm not disappointed, by the way - I'm glad he's healthy. But as I mentioned, I'd love to see him drop out just to make sure.
Paul, no chance.
Huckasuckapee, unlikely.
