A rookie cop - the son of a highly respected New York City detective - has been stripped of his badge and gun after being caught on video viciously attacking a bicyclist who was part of a Times Square demonstration.

Apparently this cop was fresh out of the Police Academy.
I wonder if this is business as usual or the case of one rogue cop. Comment away.
That was uncalled for, and the cop didn’t need to lie.
He should be locked up.
I live in New York, and trust me the cops have a lot more to worry about than some cyclists.
Share the road.
The guy was probably mouthing off to the cop.
He's a rogue cop, and probably got his job because of daddy's conncetions.
Pogan is not only a thug, he's a liar.
He has no business carrying a gun or a badge.
WTF? is wrong with this jerk?
Watch the video
He’s needed in Seattle. These “Critical Mass” anarchist/cyclists are out of control and need a good beating.
He is one of the ones who should have been weeded out in the academy. He is simply a thug with a badge.
You should quit now before you make a complete idiot out of yourself.
He was not a rogue, he was a rookie cop. Rookie cops always feel the need to prove themselves and usually make a jackass of themselves doing it. If he had just “gone with the flow” like other seasoned officers he would have fit in, in no time.
Nothing illegal about that.
I wonder why police don't use obvious charges like disorderly conduct and obstructing traffic and such to get these vermin off the roads and out of the public's way.
In court papers, Pogan accused Long of purposely swerving his bicycle to block traffic and then using it as a weapon to run down the officer, knocking him off his feet and causing a “laceration” on his forearm. “You are pawns in the game. I’m going to have your job,” Long told Pogan, as he flailed and kicked his arms and legs, according to the complaint.

I have seen cyclist do this! Just go right into traffic with no warning.
But, these critical mass people are a bunch of A-holes. Personally, if I ever am in SF during a critical mass I am going to bring along several boxes of tacks, heavy duty ones to take out their tires.
This cop is so stupid he probably thought his story would be believed, and he’s so oblivious to reality he doesn’t know or couldn’t imagine there was ample videotape to totally turn his story to crap? The cop went out of his way to zero in on this cyclist, who was travelling in a straight line, while the cop travelled a good 12 feet in order to push the cyclist over. Coulda killed him, or caused a concussion. ROgue cops like this ALWAYS cost NYC countless hundreds of thousands if not millions. They should NEVER be hired in the first place.
He then slowly walked from the middle of the street to the left hand side of the street into attack position from 25 Seconds to 28 Seconds on the video.
He then deliberately pushed over the biker thus trapped between the cop and the sidewalk.
The video shows that the cop is guilty as hell of felony assault. If the biker had landed wrong, the cop could have killed him.
These observations have nothing to do with being pro-cop or anti-cop or pro-demonstrator or anti-demonstrator.
These are just the facts documented on video in this particular case involving this particular thug who happens to wear an NYPD uniform.
Comment away

I’ve seen the video and don’t come to any conclusions.
It looks like the officer was walking across the street.
It looks like the cyclist was riding toward the officer.
From the angle the media has given us (only one so far) I could not determine if the officer or the cyclist ran into the other and certainly can’t determine if it was on purpose. Let’s wait for more camera views and more info before we hang a cop who should be given the benefit of doubt.

The cyclist actually appears to swerve away from the cop at the last second.
In the mean time, someone's house was being broken into. Someone's car was being stolen. Etc etc.
The guy was probably mouthing off to the cop.
Nothing illegal about that.

Why would you condone such behavior? He is a cop and should be given respect. If in fact the cyclist did say something rude I do not blame the officer for taking the little punk down. He need to freaking grow up.
Think twice before you take the cyclist side in this! Who do you call in an emergency? The police or some shit for brains, rude cyclist?
What has happened to this country when we bad mouth officers of the law? I guess we can thank rap music for it, but I still try to think positive of the police. If this cop did wrong he will be punished, but I feel sorry for him because he deals with the scumbags of the world.
50 bikes go by and the cops knocks #51 down. Why didn’t he go for any of the first 50?
I’m inclined to side with the cop given what I see on the video. The punk did something the first 50 riders didn’t do. While trying to evade being stopped, the cop took action and took him down.
Why did the officer cross the road?
To get to the other side.
Wrong, he crossed the road to knock the crap out of a protesting loser, and then blatantly lie about it.
It's not a funny punch line, is it?
Sorry, you're wrong. You can clearly see the cop take a step and lunge toward the biker and hit him with his shoulder.
Sorry officer.
Notice the other policemen is also walking toward the cyclist.
And notice both cops were looking at the oncoming bikes!
Did the video capture everything up to the attack? Was the camera on the cyclist the whole time? I am not sure it was. I only have 43 seconds the video I can see. How can we know for sure?
Exactly, that is my point. He did something and as he aproached the two policmen he was probably told to stop and gave no indicaton of obeying the office and the officer knocked him off the bike.
Screw that cyclist.
It would have played better if the COP had just told the truth.... said what he observed the bike doing (assuming there was a legit reason to stop the kid).... and said he stopped him for that reason. Lying about it in my mind automatically lets the kid skate. Cops going to court and lying about events doesn’t set well with me (I know he isn’t in court yet)
Keep your eye on the cyclist who goes by JUST BEFORE the one the cop pushes. He comes the closest to the cop.
Probably, but that's no excuse for what the cop did. Now, a civilian - that's a different story (or maybe not, but I would be more forgiving of an ordinary civilian reacting to verbal abuse than an officer of the law). A cop has to perform to a higher standard as a servant of the people.
Thanks for the early posting link. I did several searches looking for prior postings but could find none. It looks like there is a typo in the title of the link you posted. This may explain why I could not find it.
That's enough reason to fire him in my mind.
So the cops are supposed to stop break ins? We have personal security guards? I thought one was supposed to call the cops after the break in. Actually the cops were dealing with Critical Mass an organization dedicated to making driving inconvenient to me. And, they announce in advance of the event. And, they beat up motorists.
Sorry, you’re wrong.

I might be. I’m only saying I can’t determine anything from the video I saw. I do see the officer taking a step in the direction of the bike but wasn’t that the path he was on anyway. I’d like to see it in slow motion and the image cleaned up before judging.
If so, Pogan's dirty and should be removed from the force and find another line of work more in line with his character, say politics.
Ok so if a cop tells someone to stop and he is ignored then the cop should be ok with it??
I’ll remember that the next time I have a cop trying to pull me over.
where is it?
Pedestrians have the right of way over bicyclists so the bike was at fault.
Quotas?
Seriously, I think that this cop knew this particular cyclist from a previous encounter and sought revenge. JUst MHO.
You might suggest your mother wash out your mouth with some Ivory soap.
It’s pretty clear you haven’t watched the video.
And finally, it appears that you have no respect for the Constitution.
