Officials: Al Qaeda's Mad Scientist Killed

One of al Qaeda's top chemical and biological weapons experts was killed in an air strike by a CIA pilotless drone in a remote Pakistani border region, senior Pakistani intelligence officials told CBS News Tuesday morning.

Intelligence officials investigating the Sunday night missile attack confirmed that Midhat Mursi al-Sayid Umar, also known as Abu Khabab al-Masri was one of six men killed and his remains had been positively identified.

"We now have a positive ID on the body. I can confirm to you that Al-Masri has been killed,"

He was known to have used a variety of animals, including dogs, cats and frogs in brutal experiments which often left the animals dead.

Where's PETA on this?

He was supposedly killed in January, 2006 also. We'll see if he pops up again.

Additional from your link: "I can confirm to you that Al-Masri has been killed," a Pakistani intelligence official told CBS News on the condition of anonymity.

Exactly. Paki intel and armed services are filled with sympathizers. After an autopsy by US military I might believe.

"Every time you have someone prominent like al-Masri getting killed in Pakistan, everybody has good reason to ask, 'Why are all these people getting found in Pakistan? Shouldn't Pakistan do more to push out these guys from its soil,'" asked one diplomat, who asked not to be named."

Seems to me that an occasional Hellfire missile in your bedroom is reason to be concerned about the hospitality of the host country.

The Taliban got the Pak government to treat the Tribal Region as autonomous and for the Pak military and police to stay out. They didn’t count this also meaning that the Pak government would not get upset at the US operating in and above the region

DECEMBER 2003 NEW YEAR’S EVE : (MIDHAT MURSI aka MIDAAT MURCI DIRTY BOMB PLOT— See HEZBOLLAH) WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence agencies have launched a worldwide manhunt for al Qaeda’s master bombmaker, who may be building a “dirty” bomb and other new devices for terror attacks inside the United States, sources said.
U.S. counterterrorism officials told The Post it was new information about the activities of Egyptian-born bomb maker Midhat Mursi, in part, that led the Bush administration to secretly dispatch Department of Energy radiological detection teams to New York and four other cities over New Year’s Eve [2003].

Now they call him Shish Kabab Al-masri. I wonder if martyrdom is as hip among Al Qaeda types as it used to be.
