As Senator Barack Obama turns to the choice of his running mate, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has emerged as one of the campaigns potential finalists, sources familiar with conversations in Richmond and in Chicago said.
Kaine, an early Obama supporter whose biography nicely dovetails with the Illinois senators, "ranks very, very high on the short list," said a source who has spoken recently to senior Obama aides about Kaine.
Kaine "is getting a critical examination," the source said.

Someone must be "very, very high" if they are considering Gov. Timmy! for VP.

To: ReagansRaiders
If they go with Kaine, McCain should go with Palin to scoop up the female vote (for years t come). Total victory.

I was responding to MattinNJ who said that McCain should pick Palin...if the McCain rumor is true, then it'll be Tim vs. Tim.

SATAN?!
To: ReagansRaiders
I hope he does it as well. Tim Kaine won the governorship for one reason: the Virginia GOP’s utter incompetence. What exactly were they thinking when they ran Kilgore?
This is a pure win for Virginians if it happens.
1. We get Lt. Governor Bill Bolling as governor. He’s a top notch GOP conservative (those are rare as hens teeth these days).
2. Virginia gets rid of Tim Kaine a year early.

I'm guessing the initial MSM analysis of a potential McCain/Pawlenty and Obama/Kaine runoff would go like this:
Kaine is a rising star in the Democratic party in a key Southern state.
Pawlenty is a relative unknown in a state with little sway in the election.

Unfortunately, because of the folks in Northern (which is no longer named so because of its geographic location) and the Folks a little further north of you; Obama cares very little about the Great Americans down in southeast VA.

From Wikipedia:
“Tim Kaine has stated he has a “faith-based opposition to abortion”. [2] He also supports promoting abstinence and opposes partial-birth abortion.[3] Tim Kaine is a member of Democrats For Life of America.”

I have read that 40 percent of democrats oppose abortion. Also, I wonder if Tim Kaine would make the ticket palatable to voters opposing abortion. Especialy those who find McCain’s abortion stand a road block to support.

Kaine, an early Obama supporter whose biography nicely dovetails with the Illinois senators, "ranks very, very high on the short list," said a source who has spoken recently to senior Obama aides about Kaine. His experience dovetails nicely as well. small-city mayor and a few years screwing up a state as Governor.
