Cornering Pennsylvania
The Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW ^ | Salena Zito

It's complicated. Pennsylvania is a "purple" state that must go Democrat blue instead of Republican red for Barack Obama to win the November election. John McCain does not need Pennsylvania to win the White House, but Obama sure does.

Excellent analysis.

Obama is going to rack up huge numbers in Philly. He does not play nearly as well in Pittsburgh or the other blue collar areas of the state though.

Those who automatically assume PA is in the bag for Bambi may be in for a big surprise come November.

"his" is referring to McCain or Obama?

I mean Obama. I know dozens of public schoolteachers, and he’s even losing among THEM. I know it’s unscientific, but I don’t know anyone who voted Bush and will vote Obama. conversely, I know plenty who voted Kerry and plan to vote McCain.

I think if we continue to hammer Obama’s abysmal and scarey economic policy (taxes), his insistence on not drilling for domestic oil and his arrogance toward us “commoners” we have more than a chance to win PA. The “aura” is fading.

A massive investigation into Philly voter fraud is what’s needed to put PA in play.

“I mean Obama. I know dozens of public schoolteachers, and he’s even losing among THEM. “

They must be patriots then.

Obama is a pro-abort extremist. He was wrong on the surge and cluelessly is now saying progress would have been made in any case. He is proposing more new taxes than anyone since Mondale.

His Presidency will be a disaster.

New watchword - DONT TRUST ANY VOTER UNDER 30!

It’s all about the fraud....Philly is notorious (98 per cent turn out is a statistical impossibility, yet there you go). Rendell has kept voter photo ID out of the state and if he can rack up the numbers of dead people in Philly, he can pull off another close one. Don’t be surprised if Obama makes the same attempt as Gore did in Florida in 2000 if it’s close.
McCain has to win big here, and he can in western PA if he focuses on gun rights,pro-life, economic message

What really worries me is that there might be some sort of massive ACORN style strategy to steal the election. With enough money and enough stealth, the plan could be sprung on election day in a number of states. It would make Florida 2000 look like a garden party. With the press in the tank for Obama they might be able to create enough chaos to pull it off. The press would report the story according the following template: "Republicans are stealing the election again, and this time from a black man!" The public outcry would be too much to resist. The Obamas certainly have the effrontery to attempt something like this.

I recall one of Obama's people saying recently that they have a strategy for winning the election that doesn't require Ohio. I know I sound paranoid, but the 'Rats are capable of anything.

Moving America Forward is exactly that.

And when Obama wins ... there will be billions in left-wing funded programs to ‘invest’ in.

He insulted average Americans, and Pennsylvanians in particular as he was commenting on people “like them” and why they held the views that they did. Hopefully they’ll remember that. However, Pennsylvania seems to be close a lot and in the end disappoints. This time could always be different, I guess.

Obama is going to rack up huge numbers in Philly.

That’s nice to hear.
We get inundated with the Obamedia foisting obama on us that it makes it sound like everyone under 30 is an Obama voter.

Really the Obamedia is getting sickening. I am getting that nauseating feeling I got in the Clinton years.

Please, dont let this man - BHO - become President.

The public school teachers I know went strongly for Hillary...not Obama (remember SHE took PA!). I don't think Obama will take PA...McCain could though...if the R's work hard at it (has he even been here?)

Honestly, BHO and his Marxist ways scare the heck out of me...I don't 'like' McCain, but will vote for him; I could even tolerate another four years of a Clinton in the White House...but not the gloBULList that is Barry O.

Pssssssst......another under 30 voter not for Obama here. I am sick and regurgitate daily whenever I hear another lemming pundit worship at the Obama altar. He is a fraud but perhaps it does take a minority to see through people like him. I, and many Liberals should’ve, heard the same song and dance before. I will unite America, blah blah blah, another golden calf of golden plated BS. I am going to vote for McCain as, like Bush, he might seem a little bit well “political” but I sense a real human in him unlike Obama, who strikes me as a charlatan who wants the most votes. That is the downside of Axelrod’s idealism, it makes me dislike Obama more.

As a former resident of the Philly suburbs, and one who is still in love with the state, I agree with you all.

The only reason Dems carry the state is because of Philadelphia. Without Phila it is a Republican state.

In 2000 and 2004 the voter fraud was rampant in Philly. The Dems didn't even try to hide the fact that turnout was over 100% in many precincts, that the vote was 99%-1% for the Democrat, and that the citywide vote was 80:20 Kerry:Bush, with a margin of 410,000 votes. [Bush lost the state by 145,000.]

McCain can take Pennsylvania because it is unique among all the swing states. Basically Reagan Democrats who love their country and represent the finest of American culture. Not as reliably Republican as Southerners. But hasn't turned to impulsive liberalism like New England or Massachusetts.

Fauxbama will lose PA, and lose it solidly, I know the polls say otherwise, but this schlub has a completely tin ear when it comes to relating to working blue collar folks, and the more he walks around presenting himself as God with his PR crap, the lower his numbers will go.

McCain will carry PA readily by NOV... Fauxbama’s dog and pony show does not play worth a damn here. There is no way you are going to put up a guy with 20 years military and 30 years public service against some guy who’s beein in Washington 2 years and thinks he’s God’s Gift and win that contest in PA.

It won’t happen.. PA will go McCain come Nov. Fauxbama is a schlub and the blue collar working class folks of this state will send him packing. His song and dance may play will in other place, but it will not play worth a damn here.

The only reason Dems carry the state is because of Philadelphia. Without Phila it is a Republican state.

Detroit plays the same role in Michigan that Philly plays in PA. Without Detroit, MI is a red state. It's gone dem in recent presidential elections, but not overwhelmingly so-3.5 to 5%. There is a lot of "moderate" support for McCain here, so the moderate strategy could work in MI. Not that I like that state of affairs, but it is what it is this time around. MI is getable for the repubs this year.

"McCain will win PA... Fauxbama plays horribly here, he has ZERO chance of winning."

Then why do polls show Obama ahead by 3-4 points? Because whites are afraid to tell the truth to a pollster, so as to not be labeled racist?

You're wrong. Haven't you heard of the party machine in Philly? The fix is in, no matter if McCain has an actual statewide lead.

I talked to someone who works for the GOP. One problem is that there aren’t any GOP poll watchers at every Philly district, and when they do go, sometimes things aren’t all that friendly. Sometimes the union thugs will line up and refuse to let them in, and it’s not unheard-of for our people to be beaten down. In those precincts, the Dem people just make up their own numbers since no one can dispute them. Someday we might get a judge of elections indicted, but it needs to start with gathering evidence, and for that we’ll need poll watchers to go to precincts in force (young people who can “handle themselves” and aren’t alone).

Its July, Fauxbama with all the PR and Propoganda and hype he’s gotten he should have a at least a 10 point lead to have a shot at winning.. in reality since he’s so shallow of a candidate he needs to be at 20 points up at this point to have a chance at winning.

He doesn’t have that, not here in PA nor even in the nationals... he is not outside the margin of error, which means he’s toast.

Trust me, PA will not go for Fauxbama. Not enough fraud in Philly exists to put this schlub over the top here, he will lose this state.
