Murder in the Family: Honor Killings in America
When she was just 19, Sandeela Kanwal traveled from America to Pakistan for an arranged marriage to a cousin twice her age.
Less than six years later, she was dead — strangled — and her father, Chaudhry Rashid, was arrested by police as the suspect for what some have called an "honor killing."
After their marriage, Kanwal had lived in the United States apart from her husband, who remained in Pakistan. She was reunited with him in April at her family home in Atlanta, but he moved to Chicago days later, leaving her alone once again.
On July 1, Kanwal filed for divorce, a prospect her father, a 52-year-old immigrant from Pakistan, would not entertain. Investigators say that after an argument on the night of July 5, he strangled Kanwal with a bungee cord. He could not accept the "disgrace" a divorce or affair would bring on his family, according to police.
The United Nations estimates that as many as 5,000 women are murdered in such honor killings each year for offenses like immodesty or refusing an arranged marriage. They may be on the rise in the U.S., as seen anecdotally in Kanwal's death and a handful of other prominent attacks:

We just had one in the Atlanta area. Of course old dad is saying that he did nothing wrong according to his religion—I guess that will be his defense—wouldn’t want to offend anyones religion here, would we. And he’s already complaining about not receiving proper treatment, food, etc. while being housed in the local jail.
It'll probably take him a lifetime to get used to it. Hopefully.

Fox news is calling this "honor killings" like they want the public to "get used" to the idea. BS! Murder is murder no matter what name you put it under or religion.
Sort of like a slave owner bringing his slaves with him to the United States and expecting them to remain slaves. They are free with recognized rights the moment they touch our shores. We need to make this clearly known to cultures operating under different beliefs. Leave that portion of your religion or culture back home if you come here. It ceases to be in America. There should be absolutely NO consideration to any religious or cultural claims to the contrary. I don’t care how hateful they think our assertions are for the primacy of American tenets of women’s rights over their cultural and religious beliefs. Our truths are self evident and their’s have absolutely no place here.
I’ll be damned if I allow my daughter and grandaughter’s freedom to be undermined by any foreign cultural or religious challenge.

A woman, Pamela Fayed was murdered last night in a parking garage in Century city. Her throat was cut. Her husband’s whereabout are not known. Coincidence or TROP?
