Videos recorded by cameras in two Buffalo Grove squad cars show a U-Haul truck near the end of a wild police chase two years ago, veering from side to side in traffic and racing around street corners before a crash that killed a suburban teenager and injured two others.

I don’t understand why cops don’t take out a someone who’s trying to get away in a motor vehicle. To me it’s like someone spraying bullets in the air.
LOL
You advocate the police "spraying even more bullets in the air" as a solution? And you don't understand why raising the danger to the public is a good solution?
After seeing some of these chases, there are points where they could be run off the road or possibly taken out but a gun. To let them drive recklessly through public streets is the greater danger to the public. The driver literally has a weapon of mass destruction.
The headline clearly states that the U-Haul killed a teen, so the police were obligated to chase it down.
I would think a uhaul truck, being driven like a bat out of hell, with a suddenly dead driver, would pose significant risk to the community, don’t you?
Slim chance. If you have ever been to Buffalo Grove, you would know that the area is one big suburb after another, with houses and businesses just yards from the street curb. Even spike strips would be dicey because of all the vehicular traffic.
No, he was not advocating spraying bullets. He was saying that letting a fleeing felon run in a vehicle is “like spraying bullets”.
Good grief. Check your reading again.
it's different in small towns with less cars/pedestrians around. it's a judgement call. usually by a supervisor who is not on scene. the cops in the pursuit never want to be called off.
But a crazy cross eyed guy speeding and swerving side to side is less dicey?
I think the cops ought to take them out...
If they were running down a crowded street swinging a machete’ the cops would shoot them.
Driving a car 100MPH down streets while trying to evade cops puts innocents at risk.
SHOOT THEM LIKE A RABID DOG
He’s probably still thinking “I coulda sworn I hit two dudes.”
I am totally against car chases unless it is for a major crime. And I do not consider vehicle theft to be a major crime, as the perp is never punished severely for it. It is not worth risking the lives of law-abiding citizens in order to apprehend someone who has committed a wrist-slapping offense.
A few years ago, some innocents were killed here in Houston as police chased a car thief, and a few weeks ago, the police engaged in a major chase of a guy who had run a red light.
sometimes, other cops crowd the radio so the boss can't come over and cancel the chase. as i said, the cops in the cars never want to let someone get away. it ain't in our DNA.
Thanks for being a part of the “thin Blue Line” that keeps society marginally sane.
He has Cynthia McKinney eyes.
I watched this live on TV last week..
They showed this guy dangerously weaving in and out of traffic on a Los Angeles freeway during the morning rush hour. They had just robbed a house and the police were following, but had given up on the “high-speed” chase so as not to cause an accident.
However, a helicopter followed them. It was funny the guys exited the car. Note especially when the guy approaches a fence and a dog scares him! Then another dog chases him....

This is a short one....there’s a short advertisement before video...but this video gives you a better view of the dog chasing him. So funny! Once the site is up, type in “rooftops” in the box above the screen, then click on “A Car Chase Takes to Rooftops” box that appears.
