Russia Could Place Bombers In Latin America, N.Africa - Paper

MOSCOW - Russian strategic bombers may soon be deployed at airbases in Cuba, Venezuela and Algeria as a response to the U.S. missile shield in Europe and NATO's expansion, Russian daily Izvestia said on Thursday.

Moscow has strongly opposed the possible deployment by the U.S. of 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and an accompanying tracking radar in the Czech RFepublic as a treat to its national security. Washington says the defenses are needed to deter a possible strike from Iran, or other "rogue" states...

Better to not bring it. The planes do not need to cross the border; their cruise missiles can do that, and good luck hunting them.

Bombers?

What decade is this? The 50’s?

This really goes to show how utterly F’in useless the russian military is these days. Bunch of drunk conscripts in decades old junk.

Hey russia, while your at it, why don’t you threaten NATO with a ground war. Tell them your going to march a bunch of tanks into western europe and have Putin bang his shoe on a podium. Bwhahahahahaha!!!!!

What would they fly that could threaten the US?

Tu-95’s or TU-160’s

Bears or Blackjacks?

They have few and they are rarely operational.

I can imagine the crews ordered to fly a mission against the US, knowing it is certain death and I think of the ‘final charge’ scene of the movie Galipoli.

Chavez’s dreams come true! BOOOOOMMMMM.....I am now a martyr! No, really, Russia has more brains than that. They will posture and BS to get Chaves to buy more Russian arms but they will not base any of those old aircraft in the Americas.

They also want to base IRBM’s in Cuba and build a nuclear sub base in Venezuela.

The Cuban Missile Crisis ended with the deal that the USSR would pull out it's nuclear tipped missiles and the US would stop trying to overthrow the Castro regime.

It seems to me, that if Russia plans on busting up this deal, the US ought to start looking into busting up the Castro regime.

I’m more concerned about IRBM’s, but nuclear tipped cruise missiles can still cause a problem. Also, the Russians do have plasma stealth capabilities.

There was a more important agreement:

"After much deliberation between the Soviet Union and Kennedy's cabinet, Kennedy agreed to remove all missiles set in Turkey on the border of the Soviet Union in exchange for Khrushchev removing all missiles in Cuba."

The Russian response to missile interceptors is to boost their Aircraft based first strike forces.

Proof we need to get resume our military spending at pre clintoon levels, not reduce defense further.

The Bear stirs again...

I believe the deal also included a hands off on Cuba. Nothing’s happened since then.

In any case, what do you think of my idea, that if the “deal’s off”, that makes it open season on Castro (and Chavez).
