The wheat goes to make bread for the people who can't afford corn, because we use that for ethanol.
Got it?

“Coalition Builds Capacity in Southern Afghanistan”
By Jack Holt

WASHINGTON, June 9, 2008
PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: “Several are agricultural projects, which are important to sustaining the villages, he said. It’s a very rural society down here — very, very austere. So this is very important. We handed out almost 200 tons of wheat over the wintertime, and there’s wheat being grown all over Afghanistan.
And actually, what I’ve been told is the wheat price is higher than the poppy price, so we may have had some good luck in this, McGrath added.”

Next year, the opium buyers will offer more money to the farmers than the going rate for wheat. The profits in heroin are huge. They can afford it.
To: Dr. Bogus Pachysandra
Actually, I was just listening to a book...the coming China wars......The gangsters make more money off fake Louis Vuitton bags with less risk, than they do on heroin.

I have no idea about either climate/wheat or corn in Afg. Have sent vegetable seeds, via missionaries and military to Afg. I live in eastern NC, and there is some wheat grown here but not much, mostly corn and soybeans now that eeeevvviill tobacco has mostly been done away with.
When I was growing up, the only poppies I knew about were the ones on the Wizard of Oz, and a big patch of the bright red ones growing down by our creek. Sigh.
