Perhaps it was because she had always wanted to do it. Or it could have been the fact that her college friends were road tripping from her university in Boston to Rhode Island to have it done.
Whatever the reason, Jana Steele says that the flowers she got tattooed on her lower back when she was 18 years old are a lingering reminder of her freshman year.
"It was something that I always talked about doing and wanted, but I probably would not have gone through with it without a big group of people," she says.
Now a 26-year-old professional living in Los Angeles, Steele says she hasn't yet thought seriously about having the tattoo removed.
"I like it; I can see it when I want to see it, but everyone else can't see it," she says. "It doesn't affect me at the workplace.
"The only thing would be one day when I'm really old, and whether I would want a wrinkly, probably faded tattoo on my body. I might remove it then."

Small tattoos on the hip, ankle are kinda cute. Tramp stamps, however, turn me off.
Regret over tramp stamps? Who knew?
They call them tramp stamps for a reason...
Reminds me of the SNL skit where the girl has “Pretty Lady” tattooed across her back, and as she ages, it appears to read “Pretty Sad.”
The trend of pretty girls getting marked up is disgusting to me. “I have perfect breasts! Let’s cover them with unicorns and butterflies!”
ABC—a trusted news source...
Crazy college kids, good thing I never did anything stupid in school, at least nothing that shows.
Tattoos are disgusting, period!
If Angelina keeps buying babies, she is going to look like a chart used in a Geography class.
Some times they can be good. Like if a woman has “Abandon hope all ye who enter” on her bikini line.
In either case, I think "hepatitis."
And when you say “hepatitis”, I think of Pam Anderson.
And her tattoos.
I was watching a cable documentary about the rise of tatoos among young people and remarked to my husband that the next booming business will be “tatoo REMOVAL parlors.” (these kids aren’t going to want tatoos covering their bodies once they “grow up” and have kids of their own.)
I meant to say “Hepatitis C.”
Any suggestions??
It’s one more fad brought to us by our wonderful entertainment media.
I have often wondered how many kids were encouraged to go out and get a permanent tattoo after observing an actor or actress with a removable tattoo.
Or worse, piercings God knows where and that tongue splitting thing....yuk.

Oh its a "negative event" alright, but they don't get them removed because of comments. The OVERWHELMING reason for getting tats removed is...it's no longer the RIGHT NAME! So many tats are drunken tributes to peoples' current "love." That part is hilarious!
Personally, I hate tats, but to each his own. I think it's body mutilation. Why fool around with all of THIS! (pointing at myself, ha).
A friend of mine with four young teen children is having his tattoos removed, just to show his kids how painful the process is. I think he told the dermatologist to use a cheeze grater and a wire wheel to get them off.
It has been a long, painful process, but none of his kids is even thinking about getting a tattoo.
While you’re at it take the ring out of your nose! he he
In 30 years all the kids will run away screaming "MOTHRA!"
I saw this girl at the pool, about 14, who had this “sun tanned” tattoo of the playboy rabbit head. I was wondering where her parents were.
I see investment opportunities here. Anyone know names of the laser removal companies?

Who decided that getting your nose pierced is a good idea? I find nothing attractive about nose jewelry.
She’s getting one with my name next week.
For several decades in this country it took effort to sort out young ladies from young trash. Not any more.
Women who have their bodies tattooed are self-identified tramps.
Absolutely
I call it skin pollution. I often see someone from far that looks like he/she just came out of a pig pin, but on closer inspection, you find out that it is tattoos, not dirt that is covering their bodies. At least one can wash off dirt, but this crap stays with you. Tattoo removal technology is a joke if you have ever seen the results of one.

I'm curious as to your age- there is definitely a generational difference in opinion when it comes to tattoos.
You'd be surprised how many younger professionals are sporting ink under their work clothes.
Tat removal is already big business. There are six removal offices in my town. Laser tat removal is only going to grow, as you said.
The irony is that the more disreputable piercings are far more easily dealt with. You just take out the ironmongery and the hole closes up in a few weeks.
I hear ya. It’s lost on me. Those nose studs are another favorite, and the eye brow rings...
Yup...I just found out last weekend that my 28 y/o daughter is just like the woman on that one commercial on TV, she has a “Daniel” heart tat, but needs it removed because she just married a guy named Brent, LOL!
I have some small patriotic glitter tattoos of USA, Eagle, United States n Red with white stars if you are interested in trying one for a kick.
C, D, X, Y, or Z.
Whatever.
That skank’s prolly got em all.
In fact, I heard she’s the reason they started giving them letters.
I agree. Have you ever seen white kids with black makeup? It’s a real hoot. You know precisely where they got the idea from. They watched MTV which was owned almost 100% by black rap for years.
At the playboy mansion probably...
Isn’t that something you’d want on your minor hopefully virgin daughter.
And I'm proud to say I'm one of 'em!
Thought you’d like to have some fun...
my favorite oops! is when Johnny Depp changed his Winona tat to Wino... haha!
"Welcome to Jamaica...Have a Nice Day"
what is black makeup?
Plastic surgeons see MEGA-$$$ on every one of these “freedoms of expression.” Removals are not done in “parlors”. This is a complicated medical procedure done by a board-certified plastic surgeon who has had 6 years of surgical residency and it is a danged expensive one.
The old blue Navy/Marine tattoos (anchors, USMC) were easy. Blow up the dark granules with a fine laser until it disappeared. Now, with the advent of all these colors, a removal could cost a fortune and take a long time to accomplish. And, it could hurt like Hades.
I watched a young woman sporting one of those ankle encircling “tribal chains” go from wearing ultra mini-skirts, to black opaque stockings in under two years. It seemed like a bright idea at first...
I am as well. In fact, I think a good majority of the people under 35 I work with have a tattoo.
