Once upon a time, people who wanted to be president were not expected to admit it in public. This mask of false indifference had to be dropped when the rise of primaries forced candidates to campaign actively for the office.

Okay, how many times is this trial balloon going to be floated???
I wonder how many McBootlickers would refuse to vote for that ticket?
By not voting for the ticket they are essentially voting for Marxist Obama.
Your point?
Nooooo.....! lets finda conservative!
Jim Robinson
He has very articulately explained why is he against abortion now.
If I wanted to vote for a Liberal, I would do as most American voters have in the past: vote for the more Liberal in the Liberal party. McCain alone, or with the Liberal past of Romney tacked on, is only going to erode his support among the Right. The squishy Center will decide at the end as usual that they want the real deal.
I think it’s a lot harder than we think working in a state full of libs.
By all accounts Mitt did the best job he could.
However, if they vote third party (and not for Obama), then they are essentially voting for McCain. Right?
Jim Robinson
... and the meeting he claims that changed his mind has been as articulately proven not to have happened as he claims.
Unfortunately, it seems about every 3-4 hours until the GOP Convention -- unless the Rockefeller wing of the Republican Party sees their wish come true before then.
Who are you talking about
It cracks me up that there are still operatives trolling the net trying to boost the prospects that McCain would consider selecting a Masschusetts liberal to be his running mate. McCain didn’t get this far by entertaining political suicide.
I'm talking about the same "they" you reference in your Post #6.
Here we go again, it never stops - people pushing the liberal Romney as if one liberal, at the head of the ticket, is not enough.
I’m talking about our party.
If people don’t vote for The Republican Ticket then that is giving Barack a free pass into the White House.
And that is not something I support!
All of that has been rehashed time and time again during the primaries. What good does bringing it up now does?
Romney has reached out to conservatives on social issues and with his proven leadership on organization and economic issues, as well as having executive credentials, he will be an asset to McCain.
You're not going to change anyone's mind here that already supports Romney, so save the links, the quotes, and the flip-flops. I didn't like Romney either but so far he has been an invaluable team player and is at least trying to salvage Republican control of the WH.
OUCH!
that sure left a mark..... And since when has the VP choice ever been such a deciding factor for a Presidential candidate? That fact alone speaks volumes about how pathetic the GOP candidate for POTUS truly is. (Not to mention “Flipper” Romney as the VP choice.)
“By not voting for the ticket they are essentially voting for Marxist Obama.”
It would be fun to use that argument against them since it would actually (finally) be logically accurate
And if this country ever experiences the disaster of him being in the White House, he will very articulately explained why is he for abortion once again.
Thank you.
Imagine with a Dim President would do in the White House with no Congressional reign?
He could do almost anything he wants.
“Nooooo.....! lets finda conservative!”
He’s been a conservative for a couple of years now.
Because the party is automatically owed members' votes - no matter how poor the candidate - right? And if its members oblige, exactly what incentive does the party have to change?
Yeah, the same Jim who also wrote scathingly about Bush in the 2000 primaries too.
If you're going to mention Jim, at least PING him BTW.
I didn't "bring it up" the poster of the article did. Romney's a god damn'd liberal through and through. I don't want to see 2 of them on the ticket.
“It would probably be the only way I would ever vote for McCrazy.”
I like Mitt. He is NOT the conservative stalwart that I would hope for BUT...he is likely the most conservative VP that McCain has the ba!!s to pick. So while I have knocked the crap out of McFraud and will continue to do so, a Mitt Romney as VP would earn my vote. A Haley Barbour or Duncan Hunter would get me to work for and donate to the campaign as well.
Exactly!
I mean these are the choices.
If they wanted somebody else besides McCain they should have spoken up more during the primaries.
I think we have the Huckster to thank for this...
But I digress..
Anyhow if you are a true Conservative you’ll vote for the Republican ticket.
Otherwise we’ll have 4.. and possibly 8 years of Barack in the White House.
Amen to that.
The Mitt buzz continues. I just like him. Lots of folks that do not follow politics all that closely just like him. Thanks for the ping.
“And since when has the VP choice ever been such a deciding factor for a Presidential candidate?”
Since the GOP nominated a flatulence laden turd for POTUS.
True. The only ones MacCain's ever been any real danger to are the people stupid enough to trust him.
I wish they would put this Mitt Romney stuff to rest. He brings no excitement, interest, or value to McCain’s ticket, he wasn’t even popular within the republican base during the primaries, he got blown out. Romney should be a cabinet appointee if anything. And this whole economic credibility thing is bs to voters. Bring in a genuine conservative who can talk and can energize the U.S. populace in this incredibly drab election cycle. McCain should ask Jindal to be his running mate.
LOL!!!
Thank you for putting into most eloquent words that which I have been thinking for weeks now.
"Jim" doesn't need you looking out for him.
He owns the place and I find him very quotable when calling liberals like Romney what they are. Why bother him with pings all day long? If it bothers him he can tell me now and I will cease.
I just work with what the GOP gives me.
The incentive is not having Barack Huessein Obama in the White House!
You are 100% correct however do not worry about this tiny and irrelevant minority of unappeasable conservatives. McCain and hopefully McCain/Romney are going to win without their vote because the majority 90% of the Republican base, the majority of independents and at least 20% of the democrat base is going to vote for them.
But he's good at getting cozy with Rats.
Meant to include you in number 43, I’m gettin’ old I guess.
Thank you for putting it into perspective.
There’s 2 or 3 Romney haters that post over and over and over again lol.
Mitt has established his cred with me.
That's not the point. The point is, is that there is a dearth of qualified Republicans for VP who has Gubernatorial experience. If you want McCain, who is already a flawed nominee to begin with, to pick Crist, Perry, or Huckabee, go for it, and you'll see even more conservatives staying home in disgust. If you want him to pick untested & unqualified potential nominees such as Palin, Jindal, Pawlenty, Sanford, or Rounds, go for it, which will neutralize Obama's dis-qualifications and he'll end up winning.
From a logical standpoint, Romney is the no-brainer choice for VP. He's got the money, the experience, and the executive skills who can be president in a pinch. He is libertarian on economic issues, supports the WOT, and he has always been center-right on social issues which will improve if he's the nominee. Complaining about Romney isn't going to get anyone anywhere - it's bad enough we have McCain. Time to make lemonade out of lemons and work with the choices arguably not given to us.
