Limiting the road portion of the CDL test to English-only conversation would help eliminate drivers who don't speak English well enough to talk to an officer on the roadside, Quade said. He sees no conflict in continuing to let applicants take the written test in languages other than English.
"The level of English proficiency we are looking for at the roadside is basic. The (written) CDL is a whole different level. There's multiple choice, fairly in-depth quarters that require more of an understanding of the English language." ______________________________________________

I'm sure Obama will think of a few things, after all if the police would just learn Spanish then this man driving a truck (just to be able to feed his starving children) wouldn't be a problem.
You know something as common sense as this must drive the Libs nuts.

(Castillo, who was stopped on his way back to California)
What a surprise this trucker was en-route back to his home state, Mexifornia, where if you speak English you're either racist, prejudice or both.
(Limiting the road portion of the CDL test to English-only conversation)
As long as California has its’ way, this will never happen. Most citations given to Mexican drivers are never paid and all the driver has to do is get another license under another name. This doesn't only pertain to Mexican drivers either. Many middle eastern drivers run with up to four drivers in the truck and only one has a license. The rest of them run under the ‘legal’ drivers’ license. I have personally seen this and have been told, by cops I used to work with, that this is an ongoing problem. Most officers will only stop truckers that are white, black or look like they will be able pay for the citations. Why bother with the people the state won't get any money from and waste court time.

I don't know if there's a problem there.
All I remember is that my first day in kindergarten was fraught with angest in that the teacher didn't wan't to deal with me despite my meeting the requirements:
- tie shoes by oneself
- count to ten
- recite alphabet (in English)
Are these requirements no longer necessary?

Can you get pulled over for not being able to speak English? Like if an officer pulls up along side you and hears you singing in Spanish? That would be an interesting bust...

I just came across something veeeeery interesting. The FoxNews.com posting of the (AP) article has the following line:
"It just doesn't seem fair to be ticketed if I wasn't doing anything dangerous on the road," he said.
Now here's the same line from the same AP article printed in my local newspaper (The Rock Island Argus):
"It just doesn't seem fair to be ticketed if I wasn't doing anything dangerous on the road," he said in an interview in Spanish.
Now why would Fox edit and omit the end of the sentence? Looks like the editor wants us to believe the trucker said those words in English, but for what reason? To garner sympathy and support for this beleaguered "permanent U.S. resident" (whatever that means)?
What the hell happened to the formerly conservative Fox News? And to deceptively edit an AP article, of all things!

Don’t worry. Bush will jail the offending officer and see that the poor trucker, who is just Doing A Job No American Will Do, has his fine revoked. And he will be the recipient of a few million dollars for the pain and suffering he has endured at the hands of xenophobic, racist Americans.
